  1. Thinking of upgrading roughie..

My current fwd line is Dahl, Mccrae, Nank, Roughie, WHE, butler, Houston, Eddy.

If I upgrade roughie I have 513k to get a premo. Who is the best option?

    TU: Kennedy
    TD: Franklin

    Comment: Yeo, Greene any others?

    1. Assuming you already brought in Balic this week, I reckon hold.

Next week, downgrade a ripe-ish cow for Fisher and upgrade Rough to a premo fwd or mid. You’ll have another 1-2 weeks of data and cow ripening to upgrade another cow as well the week after.

  2. Interested to hear if people genuinely think M. Murphy will be a top 10 Mid this year. Can get any midfielder this week, however if Murph is to keep his form, will be saving $100k by grabbing him this week.

    T/U: Top 10’er

    T/D: Smoke and Mirrors

  3. Are these solid trades?

    Round 5: Roughead -> Balic

Round 6: Hampton -> Fisher via Hibberd dpp
    Florent -> Parker

Round 7: SPP -> Parsons via dpp
    Rookie -> Premo

    Round 8: Witts -> Stef

Or would you recommend making different moves?

    1. Edit: Decided to change my mind and go

      Florent -> Balic this week

      and

      Roughead -> Parker next week

Going for overall rank and Roughead should score more than Balic.

  4. top of the morning lads.. in the other thread I proposed 2 trades, S.P.P out, Balic in and Shaw out, Rocky in..

having thought about it, really any wonder I haven’t been going to well those trades are ridiculous, well first 1 is ok but the second 1, most of you legends hit the thumbs down and you’re all right, I got Heater for a reason.. if he’s ok from he’s shin injury and named, I got to stick with the veteran.. he will come good..

    1. Good man. Shaw has had 1 bad, non-injured game. A 53.

He got 79 (79% TOG) this week and he usually goes 90-95% TOG so he was on track for another good score. Can’t complain about that, that’s just bad luck, happens to them all. I’d be thanking him for toughening it out and getting back out there, even parked at full forward because he couldn’t run!

When he pumps out a 150 in the coming weeks, that 53 turns into a 100 average.

      1. 100% agree Hutta, he came back on in the last quarter playing half forward and the forward line and pretty sure he had 2 goal assists.. so credit where it’s due, Heath toughed it out..

Hutta or any of the other lads, if you see this, Im already down to 25 trades and am seriously thinking of holding off this week..

        S.P.P – Out, Balic – In

        T/U – yes do that 1 trade
T/D – hold S.P.P and save your trade

        appreciate any help..

  5. is it worthwhile spending the extra $150,000 to get Sloane/Rocky?
    $647,000 Sloane
    $626,000 Rockliff
    $482,000 Oliver
    $476,000 Yeo

    T/U: yes, bring in Sloane
    T/D: no, gamble on Yeo

    1. I wouldn’t bring in a premium at their highest price, I would be looking at other alternatives who will average the same come seasons end.

Yeo could certainly be a break out player, but I personaly wouldn’t bring him in.

      5

      1
  6. Interested in peoples thoughts about “Premos”.

It has been said that once a Premo is in your team their price doesn’t matter – with no consideration about how they are scoring.

However, if we look at 2 players –
    1. A. Treloar, a designated “Premo” and supposedly never to be changed unless suffering a LTI.
    2. C. Oliver, not a designated “Premo” and probably in teams to use as a stepping stone to a “Premo” later in the season.

If both players keep scoring at the rates they currently are their values will be the same by about Round 8, albeit Oliver will be averaging over 110 points per game and Treloar will be averaging around 90 points per game. Who is the “Premo”?

My question is – should you just stand back and let the value of an under performing “Premo” just keep dropping without taking action?

Trades are GOLD, I understand that, however the value of the players we use to make trades is also vital in determining whether or not we can bring in the players that improve our team’s scores.

    How long do you wait?

    6

    6
    1. Give it a few more weeks.

JPK averaged 97.75 after 4 games last year – similar to Treloar

He then went on to average 110.8 by the end of the season.

      16

      0
      1. Heath Shaw is another example.

Averaged 90 first 4 weeks last year, people jumped off before “losing too much value” only for him to bang out 110 average until the end of the season.

Averaging 85 now (including the injured game), he is primed to do it again. Don’t think he’ll reach 105 average for the year, but triple figure is not out of the question.

        14

        1. One thing I’ve found out lately playing other kind of fantasy sports is that it all generally regresses or progresses back to their career numbers, so I believe he will come out and start smashing out some big scores very soon

          8

          0
          1. Precisely.

With the rate Otten is rising and the price Marchbank is at, it is going to be incredibly cheap to swap them out for Simpson/Shaw in a few weeks time.

            16

            0
            1. Im holding firm with Shaw but are you as confident with Simpson getting back to his 2016 form? he is getting a bit old in the tooth.
I really want to bring Adams in but I think I have boxed myself in with laird, Shaw and Howe all sharing the same bye as him. SO I think I have to look at simpson or rance as my first def upgrade (unless Doch drops in price).

              3

              0
              1. I need two more defenders, Shaw is one, the last is up in the air (Rance, Simpson, Montagna etc). Not rushing to fill the void. I’ll look at Lloyd once all the injured 22 come back to see how the team settles and what role he plays. Would be a bummer bringing him in only to get less midfield time in a week or two time. He’s only gone up 20k with a BE of 90 so no rush.

                0

                1
            2. I have Heater and I’m not even thinking of trading him.

Marchbank to Simpson is on my radar.

Regretting not taking a punt on Adams. Even if he goes down now you could swap him out for Heater or Simpson and pocket $.

At this stage he looks to be the No 1 defender.

J Loyd started well, I’m not sure he will keep it up with McVeigh coming back.

Rance will be my last Def upgrade.

              Best laid plans eh.

              2

              0
              1. I don’t think there was any doubt Adams would be the number 1 averaging defender for the season. The question was how many games he would play.

Heater will be the number 1 trade target over the next two weeks, mark my words.

                3

  7. Have used spare cash from Goldstein to Witts trade last week to turn O’Meara into Bont, was wondering whether it wold be worth turning Roughie into Ballic and bank the cash for an upgrade next week (maybe Hampton to Laird, pending form). This would mean Butler is my F6 instead of Roughie. Just not sure of Ballic’s JS.

    T/U – Good move
T/D – Wait for better rookie options

    23

    5
    1. Good move
I don’t see roughy scoring too well if the hawks aren’t gonna win too many games (corrective trade) plus I think butler is very good F6 option

      7

  8. The dumbest pick I made pre round 1 is Hickey. Well beaten by Gawn and Grundy in 2 games, a decent game and an average game is his “form”?

Just feel it’s a wasted trade to ditch him. I have $237k in the bank so can get Grundy or Martin and still have $100k or so left. I have most of the decent-earning rookies. Sandilands is my other ruck and I have Nankervis as ruck cover in my forwards. I have 27 trades and looking at Balic as a trade-in this week.

    T/u Trade Hickey out
    T/d. Hold

    32

  9. T/U:
Hampton into Hanners next week (+~25k)

    T/D:
Hampton into Hanners this week (+~50 points)

Note: will have used 4 trades before this one

    15

    0
  10. T/U:
Marchbank to Williamson, Roughead to Rocky or Bont via DPP

    T/D:
Hampton to Williamson, Roughead to Murphy or Wines via DPP

    13

    12
  11. With the forward line so bare this year I’m interested to see who people think will be top 6/8 forwards for the year

Obviously you have guys like Dahlhaus, Macrae & buddy who will be up there but after that the next few are a bit shaky

    1

    0
  12. 400k in the Bank
    – Initially wanted to go JOM to Bont however believe Roughie is a greater liability

    TU: Roughie –> Macrae, JOM —> T.Adams
    – Leaves me with 600k for a midfielder which is just shy of Bont or any of the elite premos so going for Adams as i will need him in defence either way as he will be a Top 6 Def by seasons ends

TD: Roughie —> Macrae, Wait on Bont/Sloane/Selwood/Martin to drop below 600k

    Would appreciate your thoughts

    11

    10
  13. Is it worth bringing T. Adams in now, if we didn’t start with him? His best season so far is 18 games played, so really he’s only got 14 games left in him.

FWIW, I’ve already got Howe, Pendles and Treloar in my side.

    3

    6
    1. It’s a tough one. If you bring him in, he’s going to get injured. If you don’t, he’ll go on to play 22 games.

      8

      2
    2. if you want to win overall you need the highest scoring defender and it looks like that will be Adams, it he gets hurts then so be it but don’t see how you cannot go after him given his scoring and early season form, I am trading him in this week

      1

      1. Be really interesting to see if Eddy gets a gig this week versus Carlton after kicking 3 goals last week in the twos.

If he plays, then I would not be trading him out for Balic – particularly as he has shown that he can score 70+ on a good week and his BE is -35.

If Eddy is not picked, then it is tough call between Roughead and Taranto and Pickett and Eddy (to be traded out for Balic) for me.

Pickett’s scoring has been really low (average = 37), he is a small forward in a really poor team, but he has a BE of only 5. One good score (65+) can get his price rising quickly.

The hawks have been awful, and can Roughead bounce back after last weeks 53 point shocker? He’s currently averaging just 76.7 (BE = 76), but trying to find premium forwards (after Roo / Dahl & Macrae) this year is pretty tough.

Taranto seems to be steady around the 60 point mark, his BE is getting up there at 38, but maybe the tight confines of the SCG will get him back to his good preseason scoring this week? He looks to be a good contested ball player.

Be great to get other people’s thoughts on this? Who should go out of these 4 for Balic (and a reason why if possible)?

        6

        0
  14. RD 5: Out: J O’Meara, J Roughead, In: H Balic and L Dahlhaus
Rd 6: Out: WHE, T Taranto, In: D Hannebery and Z Fisher

    TU: Good plan
    TD: Re-evaluate options

    14

    5
  15. Allen Christensen will miss the remainder of the season after suffering another shoulder setback.

Good news for Barrett JS issues after his outstanding NEAFL game.

    9

    0
    1. It’s a shame as Christensen also had a solid game otherwise and if they were to make once change this week it would have been him which bodes well for Barrett.

      6

      0
    2. On the bright side, he should be available for around $264,530 next year, which isn’t bad for a guy who’s averaged in the low-90s in the not-too-distant past (and in the mid-80s in a struggling Brisbane outfit).

      1

      1
  16. I’m going to hold Big Roughie.

2 weeks ago he scored 99. this week projected 93.

Next 4 games in Melbourne. West Coast, Saints, Melb, and then Brisbane.

I’m backing him in to average 90+

looking at the rookies this year and the lack of fast cash.

Roughie may end my F6 at the end of the year.

    13

    3
        1. Forwards are always more likely to score better in winning teams. With the hawks struggling atm, until the hawks turn things around his scores are going to drop a fair chunk.

If they find some form he probably can go back to his 90+ average. but when will that be?

I’d rather have sloane scoring well now than waiting 6+ weeks for them to find form

          2

          1
  17. TU: RD 5: Out: J Oโ€™Meara, J Roughead, In: H Balic and L Dahlhaus
Rd 6: Out: WHE, T Taranto, In: D Hannebery and Z Fisher

    TD: RD 5: Out: J Oโ€™Meara In: H Balic
Rd 6: Out: T Taranto, In: L Franklin

    5

    5
      1. Someone like rocky? I’ve got danger, Bont, treloar, Fyfe, Parker, swallow, spp, parfitt in my mid at the moment. Who should I go with?

        3

        1
        1. Rocky, Dusty, Sloane, Pendles, Selwood, Zerrett. Pretty much anyone around the $600k mark with a previous history of averaging 110+.

          8

          0
  18. Upgrading Roughy this week.

    TU: Macrae
    TD: Docherty, through DPP magic.

Really not a fan of paying $580k for a defender though. And Simpson and Shaw will be super cheap in two weeks time…

    16

    7
  19. Two minds about Roughie but just about lost patience I think.

Might trade him to Macrae but will need to also trade Turner or Florent to Balic to fund it. Thoughts?

    TU: Florent
    TD: Turner

    11

    4
  20. Getting rid of Spud Crouch this week as he’s projected to lose another 15k.

    Do I bring in..

T/U Dusty – went down in price after his stinker last week
T/D The Bont – uses it well and is a possible top 5 mid

    4

    19
  21. really keen to get the bont in for JOM this week but… if I bring in hanners instead it means I can afford to bring in macrae for pickett in the forward line next week. only really interested in league wins.

T/U: bring in the bont and make the next upgrade when u can
T/D: bring in hanners and upgrade pickett to macrae the next week

    7

    12
    1. or how confident are people of fisher? I could downgrade powell-pepper to him next week and then send parfitt into the midfield and upgrade pickett, hannan or simpkin to macrae, that way I get macrae and the bont?

      6

      2
  22. Current team: ($355k cash remaining – left over from trading out NRoo in Rd2…)

DEF: Laird, Howe, Otten, Marchbank, Newman, Hampton (Stewart, Hibberd)
MID: Danger, Pendles, Jelwood, Fyfe, JPK, Treloar, Beams, SPP (Taranto, Parfitt, Barrett)
    RUC: Sandi, Witts (Strnadica)
FWD: Dahl, Nank, Lynch (GC), WHE, Roughy, Butler (Hannan, Eddy)

Roughy is gone this week. Also most likely downgrading SPP to Balic.
I’d like to bring in a premium defender for my weak defence line, but Docherty is too expensive for my liking, and Shaw and Simmo are still a few weeks away from bottoming out.
I’m thinking about bringing in Bont or Zerrett, but that means playing Taranto on field in the forwards.
Or I can bring Macrae into the forwards, for $100k cheaper than Bont.

    Any thoughts/suggestions guys?

    2

    2
  23. Turner -> Balic (m10) via dpp
    Taranto -> Yeo (F3)

Leaves me with $122k, SPP at M8 and WHE at F6.

Holding rougie and omera for a couple more weeks.

TU Good trades, pull the trigger
TD what are you thinking….reverse them!

    10

    9
  24. Is Pickett to Balic a waste of a trade?

T/U Go for it – Pickett is doing nothing
T/D Hold fire -trades are too valuable

    Comments?

    7

    14
  25. Got money in the bank and looking for a premium:
    T/U Stefan Martin
    T/D Tom Rockliff

Comment: A better premium in the same price range

    12

    15
  26. Is it worth getting rid powel-pepper and toranto for a rookie and murphy or is there alot more money in the two rookies.
    T/up: make the trades.
T/down: theres more money to be made.

    9

    3
  27. Trading out roughead for either

    T/up Riewoldt

    T/down Yeo

Comment J Kennedy (sydney) would have to use another trade to get him (currently have 26)

    12

    1. This week I’d chase points as of the available influx of bubble rookies Balic certainly doesn’t scream minted gold for a cash cow. Not sure this is a great week for moving cash generators in unless I’ve overlooked someone obvious

      1

      0
      1. Chonks – g’day!!

I want to also bring in Balic and S Martin this week so that Nank can go back forward.

But I am torn about getting rid of both Roughy (some decent games coming up & surely will be stung by criticism) and SPP (surely goes well versus Carlton this week)?

I have a bit of cash, so will wait for teams tonight – but at this stage I will be offloading Taranto and Pickett / Eddy?

        0

        0
  28. Throwing up a couple of options –
TU Trading out JOM & Roughy for Balic & T Adams (via DPP – will move Adams into Def once one of my rookie cows is ready to be moved on)
TD: Hold JOM & Roughy for one more week and maybe farewell SPP/Taranto for Balic only

Possibly went too early trading out Tuohy last week and watched in dismay as he punched out a 96, so unsure what to do with both JOM & Roughy – and need to trade them both out to afford to bring in T Adams, quite liking his BE of 95 and average of 115. Already have Heater, Laird & Doc.

  29. I’ve moved SPP to bench with Taranto also on bench.
3rd mid bench is Mountford. Should i save trade expecting Mountford to get a run with the winless Kangas soon? Or trade him to Balic?
I’ve got 25 trades left which includes trading Florent to Sloane this week

    0

  30. Selected Gunston as a consistent scorer and games player over Tom Lynch (Suns). Clearly Hawthorn stink and his numbers are down with it. His R2-131, only score over 80, is now out of his price and his BE-141 looks costly.

Up for either Lynch or McCrae
    Down for hold

    5

  31. Rookie trade question time for you good folk to ponder. Happy with most of my selections other than rookies (especially the non-playing ones!)

In mids i have Parfitt, Florent and Pickett, all on bench, all playing, so happy

But up front and down back i have Eddy, Simpkin, Hibberd and EVW sitting on the pine doing zip!

Will any of these get a gig soon, and start generating some cash, or do i flick them now? Thinking that Eddy and EVW could make way for Balic and Williamson

    Thumbs up: Legenary thinking
Thumbs down: dickhead! They’ll get a gig soon

    4

    1
    1. EVW has been named emergency the last few weeks so knocking on the door for a call up, plus he was named BOG last weekend so it’s only a matter of time before he’s named.

Eddy also kicked 3 goals (3 behinds) on the weekend and may (?) get called up this week. Given GWS’s pace, it’s not unreasonable they opted for a smaller line up.

Just wait for team announcements. Florent is just about cooked though.

  32. My current bench for mids isn’t great Barrett, Mountford , Hibberd. So Mountford needs to go. Tu: Bring Balic in he’s the real deal. Td: Hold and keep the trade for Myers.

    10

    4
  33. Do i trade roughy to murphy via dpp or is it worth trading him for a rookie?
    Tu: murphy
    Td: rookie (balic)
Comment: better premo fwd or mid?

    3

    4
  34. Anyone know anything about Heath Shaw? If he is carrying an injury, there is going to be some big losses which could affect final DEF structure. I was thinking you could trade him out now for Docherty or Adams and then trade Heater back in later once rookies are fat.

T/U You are crazier than you look Donald…Fire the nukes!

T/D Insanity is a form of genius…but most of the time, it’s just insanity

    12
  35. I just realised the H in H. Balic stands for Harley.

    Harley B..?

    Can this be true?

    T/U Trade him in. ( Don’t’ worry its a different guy! )

T/D Wait for Myers. ( He will injure an ankle, or just go missing or something )

    3

    2
  36. Downgrade Turner to Balic and bank 400k for a double upgrade next week T?U

    or

Upgrade Turner into Any premo forward except Dollhouse T/D

The former will allow for me to upgrade powell pepper and omeara next week completing my mids.

Then I will have 4 forward and 3 backline upgrades and I am full premo…

Howerver if I choose the latter I can potentially gain 50-60 points this round and launch myself into the top 1%

Thanks guys your advice is always appreciated…

    2

    1
    1. Terrible.
You’re trading a premium and a mid pricer for a premium and a rookie. Going backwards in terms of team structure, and using two trades doing it.

  37. WARNING: This comment not suitable for children under 12.

Time to try something different. Going to set myself up for maximum suffering and then count everything that does not go wrong as a win.

I’ll start by bringing in a rookie a week early, inviting him being injured or dropped. Then I’ll bring in Elliot Yeo playing away from home, so he can knock out a nice 60-something score, and end up doing worse than the guy I traded out.

    O’Meara & Roughead –> Fisher & Yeo***

Leaves me with $147,100 in the bank.

Fisher – Parfitt now loopholed via Florent, who moves to the mids for Pickett who gives me a playing backup in the forward line. SPP on field. (Could have Fisher on field and SPP loopholed, not 100% on that yet.)

Best case, Yeo scores more than Roughy, who drops in price, Fisher scores more than Pickett/Parfitt and does not get hurt or dropped.

For my next act, I balance a vial of nitro-glycerin on my nose while skateboarding through downtown Geelong wearing a Magpies Guernsey.

***These trades made by a professional idiot. Do not try this at home.

        1. He has indeed been far forward. He has not been taking many contested marks, and when he does get the ball he gives it away, usually by hand. A lot of standing around, and a shortage of goals I have a hard time seeing him produce well enough to be worth keeping, especially since I can trade him out for someone who will be worth keeping, or Yeo.

    1. Agree FD, I am getting over this season pretty quickly. Some howlers decisions already.

I’m gonna go down swinging and throwing a Hail Mary this week:
      Roughead/SPP -> Fisher/Adams

Hope Balic returns straight away and he will be my downgrade option next week. Or, Witts -> Spencer to dodge the Rd9 bye.

Who knows anymore, just going to make it up as I go along.

  38. Thinking of these trades
Jager out again, losing patience, was always going to be upgraded, this way effectively cashing Hampton in to upgrade Jager (albeit into the backline)

    OUT: O’Meara + Hampton
    IN: Balic + T Adams

TU: Do it, upgrade to the premo
    TD: Better options (including Hold)

Any better options let me have ’em
    Cheers

    1. Balic being out, revised to

      Hampton -> Williamson
O’Meara -> Hanners, Murphy or maybe Heppel (pod) (save a little $)

Can’t make up my mind .

      1. I wouldn’t be in a rush to get Heppell – Scores have dropped each week going 152, 108, 95, 67

I’d want to see an improvement first.

  39. with balic out this week it screws up my plan to downgrade taranto this week and free up cash for Hanners or parker next week prior to their run of easy games.

Even though Hampton has a BE of 7 is it worth downgrading him to williamson to free up the cash (this would mean I would need to field one of Williamson or Stewart this week) or should I hold off on trades this week and wait for a fwd/mid rookie to downgrade taranto to?

T/U downgrade Hampton to Williamson this week and upgrade to fallen premium mid next week
    T/D No trades this week

    1. Actually I can upgrade Taranto this week to any mid under $553k if I trade Hampton to to Williamson.

      Thinking either Hanners or Parker.

      T/U Parker
      T/D Hanners

  40. After the non-selections of some players this week I’ll be holding off on any trades. Roughy and omeara get held onto for now and with no cows ready to be cashed in and no one on a massive bubble its turned out to be a quiet week!

  41. TU: SPP> Williamson & D.Swallow> J.Selwood

    TD: SPP>Williamson & Houston> Macrae

Comment other options if there are any!

  42. I have $389k in the kitty and a reasonably settled side.
Thoughts on trading JOM to Yeo and Taranto to Matera as a bit of a cash cow hoping he gets 80-90pts per game here on in? Still leaves $170k in kitty.
    TU = do both trades
TD = avoid Matera he is not a cash cow

    1. I was just looking at popular trades, and over 10,000 coaches have brought in Matera this week. I’m baffled by that number.
Matera will not be a top 10 forward this year, so absolute best case you’re using 2 trades to make $200K. Father D will tell you that is a horrible deal. Hold fire!

      1. Thanks Chillo is the FD rule of thumb $150k = 1 trade?
With rookies struggling to string 7-8 weeks in the grassy paddocks I am really contemplating the Matera option.
Only a few rookies look to make $150-200k this yeah plus the headaches they are bringing along the way!
I guess if I don’t get Matera then Houstan is on the field, so expecting 10-20points less. In saying that probably best I hold fire and let the cash continue to burn a hole in my pocket and take a hit 10-20pts.

        1. Marlins

Please don’t even contemplate getting Matera.

He plays the Crows this week. Houston will probably out score him.

He won’t make money. He will stink up your forward line till you burn a trade getting rid of him.

          Save your trade!

  44. SWEAR WORDS!!!

I can’t find a viable option, even with $100k in the bank. I can actually field a full team so I’m just going to be happy with that for now. I’ll review again with Melb v Rich line-ups.

    NO TRADES!

  45. Wanted Adams. 5k short for Barrett unfortunately and not willing to part with SPP yet.

Looks like it’ll have to wait for another day.

    Barrett -> Macrae this week.

    1. Apparently Barrett is smashing it in the NEAFL and was robbed to not get the call up this week. With a BE of -24 I’m holding him. He’s due to get the call up again.
