Trade Talk R5

Written by Motts on April 22 2013

Its too early to begin cashing in some of the rookies – blokes like Pittard, Couch, and Dwyer have further price rises ahead of them. And then there’s blokes like Goodes and O’Meara that you might even consider keeping.

But maybe there’s some players on your team that you just can’t stand the sight of any more. Viney’s 9 did him no favours and in my draft team I won’t spend another week settling for Chaplin’s 50-odd average. Pffffffffffft off you go, Troy.

Who are you thinking about doing the same to? And who’s on your radar?

  1. Well, Viney’s out for me, he may well make the 300k mark but that could be week 12 before he hits that.
I saved some cash for upgrading the initial failures so for me it’s a no brainer. Also not happy with Macaffer and his JS so it’s time to take the small profit now and upgrade.

Viney to Ablett and Macaffer to Cloke unless anyone can convince me otherwise.

  2. Bradley Hill of Hawks slightly concerning after his great start.

Any Hawks fans got any concerns on his scores / JS? Any injury issues? Any particular reason he did not score well at the weekend (did not see the game)

  3. do I trade out daniel rich or dustin martin? Both of their form is erratic but their breakevens are only around 50 and 60. I only scored 2050 this week which is 300 less then last week.

  5. Won’t be trading viney. Have sufficient cover so he can make cash on bench. Isnt his be -10?? My worries this week were the rucks. Goldstein was bad but won’t trade him. Only low scorers in team were the rookies but they still need fattening. Sitting at 512 overall and will sit tight this week.

  6. Pretty happy with team sitting at 108 overall. Only trade I might contemplate is Blicavs to Mayes. More for structure than anything (MID/FWD switch), although I do expect Mayes to go up in prize a lot quicker than Blicavs as well.

  7. Im just gonna shut my hole with trade talk this week… cut zorko for bartel and lost my number 1 league by 10points… zorko 100+ Jimmy 70…furious haha

  9. Not sure if i should hold off on kommer this week ? ,might wait and see if he is going to play after next week ( plenty of growth yet ) and trade vines out this week instead ?

  10. Are any Duffield owners considering a trade to Birch?

Duff has been pretty average and Birch has looked awesome. Its a difficult one but I am very tempted.

  11. thinking maybe viney out mayes in?
don’t no if i would be wasting a trade, but it does open up many mid-fwd links which will be handy..

  12. Have 450k in the bank so Viney to Swan for me, I’d rather Ablett or Pendles ahead of him but they’re slightly too expensive.

Gives me six premium mid’s, still one premium forward short (only 3 + rookies), Stevie J’s on the radar in the coming weeks, Wines & O’Mera to Ablett the plan. Knocked off Mottsy in LOEC 3 this week, I’m excited.

  13. Playing low opponents this week so might hold off on trades as much as I will still be pointing my finger at Viney menacingly. Still cant beleive i lost 3 games including SCT1 just for having Crouch on the pine instead of him.

Would dearly love to get Birchall asap though. JP Kennedy will also be on the radar in a couple of weeks after his 80 odd

  14. No trades this week even though i got below 2200. Stillsitting on top of all my leagues (including sct league 4) but thats what happens from time to time with guns n rooks strategy

  15. Traded Karnezis to Ricky Pettard after round 2 as I was impressed by Rickys first game. Since then he has scored 65 and 49.

Should I trade him to Mayes this week, pocket the 90k and be done with it (thumbs up)
    or
    keep him (thumbs down)

  16. Stevenson > Birchall, one cash cow down!
Viney is on the block, choices are Mayes or Evans, Im just iffy about taking another Melb player…

So i have just traded Viney for Mayes.

  17. Anyone know what Karnezis’ BE is? thinking one of the below options:
    T/U Karnezis – Mayes
    T/D Viney – Mayes

  18. My first post in a while, after a quiet year-and-a-half on SCT…

The next couple weeks should be interesting, with plenty of dilemmas.
3 key rookies that will be on the bubble next week:

Sam Kerridge ($115,900, 70, Crows): Originally had him in my team, though I decided that shuffling him out for Luke Brown to make some ‘instant cash’ would be a good idea. Prior to the weekend, it seemed that, despite his consistently good SANFL games, he couldn’t even buy his way into the big leagues!
Hopefully he gets a sustained run in the 22, and with his DPP (fwd/mid) status, he’s definitely appealing, considering the thin forward rookie stocks.
On a side note, the self proclaimed ‘Kedge’ has some funny stuff on his twitter.. https://twitter.com/The_Kedge

Max Gawn ($115,900, 97, Melbourne): Lining up for only his 5th senior game in 4 years, the 208cm ruck-man was one of the Dee’s highest scoring players! Albeit, despite watching the game, besides kicking 2 goals and taking a few contested grabs, I didn’t really pay much attention to him.. and he was playing GWS. With that said, in 2 weeks time, he could be the perfect milking target for those looking to get rid of Rowe or Blicavs.

Sam Docherty ($115,900, 86, Lions): Now I must admit, even though I’m a North Melbourne kind of guy, I thought Docherty played a ripper of a debut. He’s one i’ve had on my radar for quite some time, and the former pick #8 defender can play! Having missed all of last year with a hip injury, and having a late start to the season, he could be a perfect downgrade target for those looking to offload Pittard, Heath, Stevenson, Brown, Terlich etc…

I’ll sign out on this piece of advice; for all those who are clinically insane and have decided not to jump on Cloke this week (such as myself), keep an eye on his cheaper FWD counterpart Daisy Thomas. After a quiet first game back (SC wise) and a sub-affected second, Daisy looks set to plummet with his BE of 206. Currently at $515,800, he should be well below $450 K in a week or two’s time.

My forward-thinking trade of next week (or even the week after, depending on how both go): JJ Kennedy – Daisy Thomas.

  19. Is Robbie Gray likely to be the sub anymore? Or was it just on the weekend being his 1st game back? At 301k he is a good cheapish option who has proven to be a good scorer.

  20. Considering Dwyer or macaffer to mayes. Thoughts?

And also thinking duffman to birch all before the gap gets to big.thought?

Been stuck in the low 2100’s ad need to make a move.

  21. I’m just sitting here drooling on how to slide Westhoff or Birchall into my side… no easy moves currently and no need to rush.

  22. I’ve gone Duffman – Birchall
Brad Ebert – Cloke (via Dwyer sub to Mids)

Thumbs up – Do it! Easy points in the bag..
Thumbs down – Hold onto Duff & Ebert – its a waste doing sideways trades!

  24. I think Viney will come good, more keen to off load Toumpas than him.
Toumpas or Caddy (score of 1 on the weekend) to Swan, most likely this week. Got money to burn. Top

  25. If a more experienced SC player could answer this:
say for example varcoe- he wont play this week so does that mean his price will drop or stay the same? is there a certain number of weeks a player can not play and his price will not change?
sorry sounds like a stupid question but I’m a rookie a SC

  26. anyone concerned about heppell? his impact on the field never seems to translate to sc points. with so many good premium defenders, anyone thinking about moving him out?

anyway, im gonna use my 212k cap space to move blicavs to lecras via rowe. should give me a nice boost. that should do me for this week, team is set up nicely to sit on for a few weeks. only 4 players projected to drop this week and they are all by below $6500. (pendlebury, kennedy, danger, jacobs.)

  27. I think I need to concede Big Mummy as a starting Ruck was an early selection failure. After round one I was chuffed as he looked the goods on the field and his points return was equally as impressive.

Do you agree the new ruck rule and Pyke’s current form mean EXIT door is required??

    Cheers all

  28. Has anyone had a look at Andrew walker?

Averaging quite well in his new role off half back but just when Zorko the great looked on the outer he smashed out a 105.

I am still considering walker for Zorko but I’m still not sure

Thumbs up – keep Zorko the great and bac him in
Thumbs down – trade for walker

  29. The war chest is burning a hole in my pocket. Is it time to actually start winning some matches? (going for league win, currently #3 by total points, but 0-2 and #13 on the actual ladder…)

    Stevenson>Birchall; Rich>Swan. ($12,400 left)

DEF: Birchall, Goddard, Gibbs, Heppell, Pittard, Docherty, Hutchins, Terlich
MID: GAJ, Swan, Watson, JPK, Danger, Wines, O’Meara, B.Goodes, Viney, K Mitchell
    RUC: Jacobs, Leuenberger, Blicavs, Daw
FWD: Cox, Franklin, Rockliff, JJK, Dwyer, Neade, Rowe, Macaffer

  31. It’s stupid. Experimenting with my possible trades and can’t understand why I’m unable to make the trade I want to. I can’t trade out Viney, swing Blicavs into the mids, swing Rowe into the rucks and trade in Mayes into my fwd line. Allows one line change when making trades but their script doesn’t allow a 2nd.

  32. Vineys 9 really didnt help on field. Might make him a bencher for the season and swap hill for mayes. Or trade viney keep hill?

Issues in the ruck too. Who to trade out for luey? Or should I be looking at goldstein or minson?

    T/U Mummy
    T/D Hale

Comments? Dont trade rucks they’re all performing crap anyway?

  39. Out C.Heath in Birchall?
Heath will still make money but if I don’t get Birchall now I might not be able to get him in for a while. My backline is also my weakest at the moment.

  41. Is Chris Knights’s scores going to improve? Is pretty cheap and can find the ball and kicks goals. He got 20 disposals on the weekend against Collingwood but only got 50 odd SuperCoach points. Is his place safe in the side? and is his scores going to improve?

  42. K Stevens out for Evans, short term investment as I cant see any Melb players setting the world afire this year but lost faith in Kobes as well

Varcoe finally out for Mayes. Maintains my DPP, makes some quick cash and lots of room for improvment.

Very close eye on Docherty for one of the PA defenders for another cash grab.

Any other blinders coming that I have not seen?

  45. Took a punt at the start of the year on Daisy Thomas – was hopeful he’d be back in the side week 2, and starting to pump out scores in the 80’s by now.

Obviously that’s not the case, and the risk I took is about to hit the wallet pretty damn hard.

For what will likely be my only trade this week, do I:

T/U: Trade Daisy out for LeCras and bank an extra $110k
T/D: Sideways swap to Cloke, with his -30ish breakeven (if he knocks out a 120, should see an increase in value of around $60-70k).

Now that I’ve put it in writing, I’m leaning towards LeCras. Then over the next two weeks, if LeCras goes up to around $460k, while Daisy drops to $400k, I can then trade back if Daisy finds some form, or upgrade LeCras to a genuine premium.

  46. Is everyone sold on Cloke? I just remember him burning me last year.

I’ve got Brad Ebert in my midfield (who is averaging 96 and has a BE of 114).

Should I trade him to Cloke (upgrade) thumbs up
Or Sam Mayes (downgrade) thumbs down.

Or should I hold onto him. I could do with some money in the bank and also some extra points…

  51. Cash cows haven’t fattened up enough but how’s this for a power trade…

    L.Plowman ($189,900) out for S.Docherty
Plowman averaging 37 and dropped by GWS (he’s my last resort defender)

Use that extra money along my $244, 200 and trade out Karnezis $262,200 (my last resort forward) for the Westhoff who is ranked the number 2 supercoach player. Will only have $8000 in the bank after both trades

    Thumbs up>> Go for it!
Thumbs down>> Too risky, keep that spare cash in the bank for later

  52. After much thought and deliberation i think i’ve figured out my next two week’s of trading.

I’m going to offload Viney. He’s got more $$ in him but he’ll take a while to mature to a decent price unfortunately. Going to bypass Mayes and Evans who will make it into a lot of teams this week (and understandbly so) for Moller at R4. Can do this by swinging Blicavs into the mids. Reason being is i currently have no non-players and i want to be able to exploit the VC/C loophole. Fantastic article about the benefits of making sure you have a non-player at R4 over on a rival SC website (tooserious).

Then next week i’ll trade Blicavs to Docherty with Goodes swinging from def to mid.

Pretty sold on this concept but i’d love to hear people’s thoughts on it.

  55. Out: S Mumford, B Hill
    In: D Currie, D Swan.

Just in time to use vc loophole for anzac day. I had a really hard time hitting confirm trade on Swan. I hate him with a passion but the points are there.

Rowe is emergency ruck. Gaz as backup captain if Swan fails to 130+

  56. Who should go for Kane Mitchell?

Thumbs up: Mayes (opens up a DPP link)

    Thumbs down: Evans

Also thinking of getting Mayes and Evans by trading out Viney aswell. I’m currently sitting on 26 trades.
    Opinions?
