Trade Talk R6

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 23 2017

Another five day footy feast has come to an end.  No doubt you’ve already got trades on your mind.  Who is looking shaky in your team? Who are you keen to bring in?

  1. Thought I’d hold onto Roughy for one more week, being that I went too early on trading out Tuohy. Not giving him another week, so it will be Roughy & JOM out next week, and Swallow looking shaky.

  2. Tempted to trade Roughy, but the rubbish rookies have to go to build the bank
    Turner and Florent out
    Fisher and Hardwick/Balic in

  3. Will probably look to get Z. Fisher in.

    O’Meara —> Fisher

frees up 200k + 90k ITB to possibly do my first upgrade of the season.

    Question is who goes.

  4. Most popular trade-ins over the last two weeks have been D.Swallow, M.Murphy, Yeo & Matera. I wager they’ll barely be spoken of this week. Coaches, don’t go chasing pts……….

  5. First thoughts..

If Spencer scores 80+ tomorrow night I’d love to pick him to generate some cash. Just gotta figure out if i bare to part with Sandi, Witts or Nank. Hmmm….

The most likely trade will be Fisher, probably at the expense of Roughy. Hawks won convincingly and he didn’t join the party until junk time in the last. Hope he starts returning to his form of old but he’s currently not SC relevant.

These moves would generate a bucket of cash for an upgrade or two the week after.

    1. Surely you can’t part with NankerWittslands. They are producing so much value. At least hold onto Witts until Martin/Grundy have their bye and you can make the trade then.

With what I paid for SandiWitts in the ruck, 90+ averages will see me use a luxury trade once my team is complete.

      1. But if Spencer can score at about the same rate as, say, Witts, he could be used to both free up some cash in the short term, and make even more cash in the long run. All without losing any points.

With that extra cash, SPS could become a premium midfielder, so it’s definitely something I’m seriously considering.

        1. The IDEA (and it’s just that at the moment) is that bringing in Spencer will give me 110K/120K in the kitty PLUS what he can generate himself over the next month or two. Really happy with SandiWitts and Nank and their output. It’s more about trying to think left field on cash generation in a year when rookies aren’t doing what they usually do.

        1. Like you said, I guess it purely comes down to how Spencer goes today.

You’d have to flick Witts IMO if getting rid of one. You dodge the Rd9 bye and not forced to field someone like Pickett in his place all whilst Sandi and Nank having greater chances of being season long keepers.

  6. I would lile to get Joelwood but think I will be looking at a double downgrade … probably Balic and Fisher.

  7. I went Roughy > Yeo earlier this week. Though yeo scored nothing, im hoping it was still the right move, considering Roughy also scored shit again
    Probs go Fisher/Balic this week

    6

  8. First thoughts are Marchbank to Laird, and a Rookie downgrade, but i’ll wait for the fallen premiums and rookie articles on here.

    1. With the Anzac Day game, the schedule is going to be short and sharp this week. Wednesday & Thursday are going to be jam-packed…….

  9. Looks like my mid prices are a bust will be looking at Steel and Rougie to Macrae and Balic. This will give me 140K on bench as well. Went JPK this round over Macrae so don’t want to pass him up this week.

    7

    1. U could probably hold Steele. One score below 80 over in the west. He’s been solid. I started with him as well. He’s leading tackles for saints and lots of contested poss. Frustrated me though, was set for his first ton at 3 qtr time

      8

      0
      1. Yeah true but I think Macrae is a must have for our fwds and I have only used 4 trades so far so happy to use 2 this week.

To only get 10 pts in the second half is not good enough for a mid pricer and I can’t really seeing him averaging more than 80-85. I was always going to upgrade him so might as well do it now.

  10. I read recently (sorry can’t remember who came up with the figure) that a trade is worth 150k.
With this in mind am thinking of upgrading Strnadica to Spencer, initial cost 134k, with the hope of making significantly more than the 150k as Spencer’s value increases. Will also give me cover for Witts in round 9 bye.

T/U Good idea, Spencer will get regular games and increase his value.

T/D Don’t waste a trade, Spencer is a dud who may not stay in the team.

    12

    20
    1. Keep in mind that you’ll later be trading Spencer out, so two trades being used all up. If you’re spending $130k to bring Spencer in, ideally you want him to go up $250-300k in value minimum.

      5

      1
  11. Is it worth holding onto Barret, Newman and Eddy? they all have low BE’s so I am not that keen to offload them just yet.

    29

    1
    1. I’m in the same boat and have Hibberd as well. At this stage as long as I have bench cover I am willing to hold them because of their low breakevens.

Pickett is more my concern. Is he actually playing or just the team mascot?

      24

  12. If Spenser does well tonight I will probably bring him in for Turner and move Str*****a forward. Probably use the other trade to replace Oliver.

The reason I brought in Yeo this week instead of next, was to be able to use two trades R6 for downgrades.

  13. Just got Smurph in last week =[ my trade ins are cursed first Goldy-gawn now this

    Thinking
    Murphy -Sloane
    SPP- Fisher

    9

    2
      1. I have had Marc Murphy from the start – even if he does play this week (with an injury cloud) i may cash him in whilst he is top dollar. Glad i took the punt on Murph, but the good times were always going to end at some point once the gaffa tape came loose!

Chance to go straight to Rory or J Selwood etc. (got Fyfe, Pendles, JPK etc)

        8

  14. ICYMI – David Myers ($133K mid) was BOG for the Bombers against the Pies in the VFL yesterday. 34 disposals, 1 goal, 8 marks and 7 tackles.

    25

    1. I need myself a good M8 for the time being with only 1 more premium required. Really wanna get these rookies off the ground in the middle ASAP. Won’t go early given his injury history, but will be good to hold down that spot until the byes.

      8

      0
    2. I should also throw in that Stephen Hill is out for a month with a hamstring – hopefully Balic is over his hip injury.

  15. You can tell I’m a beginner….out went NRoo in came Swallow, Murphy & Yeo 🙁

Perhaps I should consider that bloke Higgins……………………………….

    21

    1. Nooooo not missy. If you didn’t have him to start with, don’t bother. He’ll be injured in no time. His price is already gone up enough, it wont rise by that much, there is better value. Mark my words, he burned me twice…

      1

      1
  16. Glad I held my trades, only used 1 so far.

Going to drop roughie to Franklin
JOM to a rookie (either balic or Fisher)

Then in round 7 upgrade marchbank to Adams and drop SPP

    18

    1
    1. Yep, was thinking along the same lines.

Roughy might get the chop this week – Fisher or Balic (if named) appear the best downgrades and V-Willis the following week with Myers to come through soon as well.

Will try to go one up, one down but waiting until the teams are named.

Maybe Roughie up to Buddy and a rookie in, or perhaps Roughie to premium mid (for M7) if I can afford it.

  17. Dear SC Gods,
If you promise that no more of my players will be injured I will give you one bottle of red a night. I’ll even fri k the whole thing for you. If you accept my offer just say nothing.

  18. Spencer’s injury has thrown a spanner in the works – barring a very positive medical report, I’m going to have to rethink my plans.

    1

  19. So much for Spencer. Looks like Blake Hardwick in for Florent, and maybe Balic in if he is healthy. May just roll the dice with Turner playing the Suns, and if he chokes bring in Parsons next week.

    1

    1
    1. He’ll come good at some point. Been very unlucky to date with minor injuries preventing him from debuting in Rnd 1, 2 & 3 etc. Looked the business pre-season and Swans have been playing the young lads.
Would not be surprised if the Swans see this lad as a long term replacement for Tippet who they could dump if they want to keep Sam Reid & others.

    1. Ask the 6,000 people who traded in Spencer this week before he was named for his 3rd game if they would do something like that any time soon, let alone 2 players. I think you will find they disagree with this trade immensely.

      14

  20. Does anyone know whats happening with taranto.. got him SPP & SPS in the mids SPS has a high BE and has to go. . Should i hold the other two?

    2

    0
    1. Pepper Pig still has a BE of 41 so can be held another week.

Would think Taranto has just been rested so if he comes back, he should be refreshed and ready to go again but if not you could probably justify moving him on if you need some money.

      4

  21. Double downgrade? Turner and Sammy PP down to Fisher and Hardwick?

Then next week with 270k in the kitty I can go WHE and Either butler or houston up to Nank and Buddy…

  22. who’s the best looking fallen premium anyone’s looking out for at the moment?

Just getting a feel for the crowd. I was thinking about hanners and shaw, but turns out I started with them :/ (oh well).

    5

    0
      1. i wasn’t trading them out – i just wanted to see if i had missed any premos that were at a similar stage of price fall and looking for the rebound.

        1

      1. I have the VC on him.

Have you checked his record against The Doggies?

From memory, two game ave of 140ish

H Shaw will do a “Treloar” this week and reward his owners.

  23. OUT: SPS and SPP

IN: Balic (if named) and Pendlebury.

Pendlebury’s BE is 187 but don’t think it’s worth missing out on the points for the likely small drop in price.

    1. Looks to be carrying something, last two weeks he’s been parked on the bench or the forward line. I would definitely wait on that one.

      18

  24. Need to improve my forward line with Pickett on field atm. Who is the best rookie to get in to have on field?

    T/U: Hardwick?

    T/D: Balic?

    5

    23
      1. As a cats fan saw him in JLT looked good with the cats bomb into the foward play, slips out the back and scores well on the run, but always wait till named for game 3

        6

        0
    1. Very surprised at the vast majority going Balic over Hardwick in this poll?

I realise that Hardwick is a little more expensive, but he seems to have a pretty good role at the Hawks (albeit with Birchall out at the moment), and he should be good for a 50 – 70 point game when he plays.

Think Balic might be a lot more up and down each week, plus there is the Ross Lyon factor, but be great to get other peoples thoughts on the comparison between these two.

      6

      0
      1. I suspect it’s more to do with his dual position status. I was leaning towards Balic already because of it, but knowing he’d be on field makes me nervous if he’s going to be very up and down.

        4

        0
  25. If Balic is named considering downgrading WHE for him to free up some cash.
My main concern is I have 25 trades left and this would mean either Ballic or SPP are on field for the short term.

    T/U make the trade
T/D hold fire or consider SPP to Ballic instead

    5

    6
  26. Is Oliver a trap?
He’s been super consistent and is a tackling machine, so if this continues he will finish the season as a top 10 mid
But he’s only played like, what one season??

Simple Thumbs Up/Down please! I think I’ll upgrade Swallow to Wines but don’t want to miss a gimme here

    8

    2
    1. Would have been great to start with, or get after at least one price rise but is getting to an awkward price range and being how young he is, he might fade later on in the season. He still has a pretty low TOG. But with his price north of $500k, you can pick up true premiums for only a little but extra.

Not for me this year as the boat has sailed but no doubt will be a must pick in the coming years as he builds.

      11

      0
    2. Look at Wines’ second year – I feel he’ll mimic that. No point getting him in now as he’ll slow as the year goes on but would’ve been excellent to get before his price rises.

      1

      1
  27. my bench rookies are –
    DEF stewart, newman
MID barrett, miles (hawks) and spp
    FW eddy, pickett.
most have low BE’s but aren’t getting getting games so I have a crash generation crisis 🙂 want to bring fisher in this week who should get the chop?

    4

    0
  28. WHE is not suited to wet weather football.

He is more of a running winger /half forward.

He has been pretty consistent before last week.

I was willing to give Roughie a bit more time. I was wrong.

    Roughie needs to go first.

    12

    0
      1. I have been changing my mind on this all week. Trade or hold Roughy.
Most coaches would have either traded him already these past 2 weeks or will trade him this week so if you hold and he begins fires you have a great POD and a saved trade. And to win SC you need to be different to what other coaches are doing.
Only thing is he has only averaged over 100 SC twice in his career , 5-6 years ago when Hawks midfield were all aged 24-29 years old in their prime ( Sam Mitch, Lewis, Hodge, Burgoyne, Sewell ) giving him good ball inside 50
So to not trade him you want at least a 90 average for the rest of the year or until we can trade for a fallen premium and he has risen in valie somewhat – think that’s even possible?

        4

        1
  29. I am feeling rather confused (again). My head is spinning (like Linda Blair in the Exorcist movie).
I have Newman, Barrett, Taranto and Eddy all sitting on the pine doing diddley squat and Buckley doing whatever he is doing (but it aint scoring in Supercoach).
My gut (Leroy Jethro Gibbs reference there) tells me its time to go Buckley and Eddy but two trades for a profit of under a 100K seems a bad deal.
T/Up Time to go Mr Buckley and Mr Ed(dy)
T/Down Hang on and hope they come good /get picked.
Leaning towards cutting my losses as there seem to be a number of good rookies coming available and cash generation before the byes is a good move.

    1

    9
  30. Thought I was so smart last week bringing in Spencer for Taranto. Free up some cash to do a premo upgrade this week. Cancelled out Pickett’s 28 points, and let me swing Nank back into the FWD line. Even on one leg and with one arm hit the 40 points before half time, then when he didn’t reemerge after half time (combined with Butler’s amazing 2nd half), I somehow lost from an un-loseable position in my main cash league. OK, rant over.
Should I put Nank but in the ruck and keep Spencer on the bench (as he should rise in price when he comes back), or trade him out ASAP?

    0

    12
  31. Seeing as though this season is going to be a struggle in terms of producing coin. I’m seriously considering bringing in Heppell (510,000) on the back of his great form and low price.

TU – he’s looking like a top 10 mid, go for it!

TD – The year off will eventually slow him down, look else where

    3

    18
  32. Thinking about a double downgrade this week, so I can do a double upgrade next week.

This week: Roughy and WHE out for Fisher and Balic (provided both are named)
Next week: SPP and Parfitt out for Shaw and Franklin.

Heater and Buddy both still have breakevens of 115-120, so we can afford to wait one more week for them. Even if they have ripper games this week, they’ll only go up in price a smidge.

  33. G’day community,
First of all, a big thanks to the SCT team who do an incredible job. You raise the bar every year and this is hands down the best SC site you will find – second to none! I haven’t posted in a while, so just thought I’d put some food for thought out there:

It’s very hard to commit to trades at this stage of the round, as teams haven’t been announced yet. 1-2 unexpected outs can derail the best of plans, as I have learnt many times before! It’s vital to have a few trade plans up your sleeve for the inevitable carnage that the SC Gods create for us. For example, most of my trade plans involved Balic being named last week. When the news broke that he was out, I was scrambling for other options, but due to so many non playing rookies and Balic not being named, I had to hold off for the week.

The rookies…If Balic and Fisher are both named this week, what will we do? How about a Hardwick? For some, a double downgrade may be tempting to build a war chest for the upcoming premiums about to fall in price (hello Pendles, Dusty and co.). For others, a one up, one down strategy may appeal, particularly for those who are gunning for overall. This would most likely gain more points, but accumulate less cash flow.

Are Balic, Fisher or any other rookies on the bubble this week must haves? Again, I think that will depend on your current team situation. They haven’t produced massive scores, but have been serviceable in their first 2 games. Fisher seems to have OK job security at this stage and playing for the rebuilding Carlton is a bonus. Balic was apparently out injured last week, so I’m unsure when he will be fit to play? Could FURL turn his supercoach reputation around, by playing the youngsters, or will he go back to his evil ways?

I have been playing SC for many years and can’t remember such a lack of viable rookie options before. The usually successful GnR approach has bitten a few this year and the mid-price madness structure seems be paying off at this stage, assuming you jumped on the Murphy’s and Oliver’s, instead of the Roughhead’s ans Omeara’s. My bench seems like a graveyard at the moment, with not a great deal of cash flow. It’s obviously very tough to upgrade, when your cows are not fattening at their expected rate.

Another thing to keep in mind is that one good score from a rookie, can skyrocket their value for the next 2 weeks. E.g. Pickett lays 6 tackles, kicks a small bag and scores a 100. However, this seems pretty unlikely, so how long do we wait for this miracle score? Is it better to simply jump on the next available bubble boy with half decent job security? These are the decisions that can make or break your season – and they are not always easy ones!

I would like to give a shout out to Any Otten, who at this rate, could even be my D6. I can’t believe I’m saying that! WHE has also performed well for my side, but on the weekend, he seemed like a seagull just waiting for a hot chip to fall his way. He may be shown the door next week.

I am still undecided on my trades for this week. At this stage, I’m looking at the possibility of Taranto – Fisher/Balic and Roughy – Buddy. My main concern is that I may be able to get Buddy at a cheaper price, but I have an inkling that with Sydney’s favourable draw in the next few rounds, he has the potential to go bang! All this obviously depends on team selections.

Again, thanks to all of the SC crew for your research, wisdom and good humour. Good luck to everyone this week (except my upcoming opponent in the SCT cup ;)) and may your trades be fruitful!

    7

    1. Buddy is just about bottomed out and the favourable draw mentioned should contribute to Buddy’s scoring increasing.

      Avg VS Carl since 2007: 108.7 from 10 (low of 70 and a high of 149, 3/10 below 100, 4/10 120+)

In regards to Balic/Fisher if they are named this week then grabbing one of them is a necessity due to the lack of playing/high scoring rookie options.

  34. Hey guys,
I have a good problem here this week. I have 4 worry some mid/cows who I can’t decide of which to cull. They are in order of who I am leaning towards culling first: Turner, SPP, Roughhead, WHE. I am planning a double downgrade but can’t decide who to get in out of Fisher, Balic, Hardwick, Johnson, Black. If I select to rookies for SPP and Turner this will free up 300k (plus my 50k in the bank) of which I can then use to grab Dusty for Fisher in 3 weeks. However I have 7 premo mids and 1 premo forward. So I need to choose out of BONT DUSTY AND PARKER/HANNERS for my last mid spot. Though if I choose to cull turner and rough and I can build up 400k and then upgrade SPP to Bont/DUsty next week with MCgrath near 370k and Butler 300k I can then also select aidyn williamson and get in Shaw for only 100k on Mcgrath which would leave 200k to chuck WHE up to MCrae the week after. By then houston at 320k, Balic/Hardwick at 260k I can grab hopefully a still down buddy at 450-480k and my team will look like this:

Doch, Laird, Taylor, Shaw, Otten, Williamson (rookies)

Treloar, Danger, Pendles, Sloane, Rocky, Bont/Dusty, JPK, Fyfe (3 rookies)

Goldy, Witts, (preuss maybe downgraded aswell to free up 250k)

DOll, Macrae, Buddy, Hardwick, Balic, Black (rookies)
SOrry for the long post feedback with be appreiciated.
