Trade Talk R9 – PART TWO

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 16 2017

Lots of trading, lots of talking, plenty to figure out.  It’s particularly hard this season with the lack of cash generation in comparison to previous years.  What does your trade plan look like for the next few weeks?

  1. Trading Otten for Rance or Hurley

    Current Backline:
Docherty, Adams, Laird, Otten, Marchbank, Newman

T/U- Rance (Round 12 bye (no current defenders), 68k left)

T/D- Hurley (Round 13 bye (already have Adams, Laird), 35k left)

    1. Great trades and love the selection of J Kennedy (WCE). Averages 149 from 4 (low of 121 and a high of 190, 4/4 120+, 2/4 145+) in RD 9 matches since 2011.

    2. Are you worried about having 2 KPP’s in your FWD line Catta? Unfortunately Lynch got you unstuck this week…

      1. Spot on Bearded one, exactly why I put the post up.

Looks a favourable selection, but it will depend on team selections to which line I upgrade to escape a potential donut!

  2. Butler is gone for Myers but not sure about my other trade.

    TU: Hampton > Adams
    TD: WHE > Kelly/Merrett/Any R13/12 bye mid

    23

  3. Guys getting in a premium in the midfield. Tossing up between Z . Merrett averaging around 110, finished 12 in SC last year or Hanners who is averaging under 100 and finished top 5 last year in SC.

Both are priced at 570 and have relatively small BEs which they should easily get

    TU: Merrett
    TD: Hanners

Comment on anyone that maybe better, ie JPK (Swans)

    1. Like em both, scores have been Corey Enright-like 😉

Zac 3% of teams, Lloyd 12% – Lloyd round 11 bye, Zac 13.

  4. Have already decided on Otten – Myers but feel like I’m an upgrade or two behind everyone else.

Is it worth upgrading Stewart to a defensive premium (will have 487k to spend) or keep some money in the kitty (238k) for next week?

TU: Stewart to a defensive premo

    TD: Save the trade

    1. Love how you are already looking towards next weeks trades – I can’t even commit to this weeks trades until the teams are announced on a Thursday night – and then I still change my mind 100 times…..

  5. T/U: Parsons to Myers, Otten to Rance

T/D: Eddy to Lloyd, Otten to Rance

I don’t quite have enough cash to make my preferred move of Eddy to Myers, Otten to Rance.

  6. Going a week early on Lloyd so i can get Rance in. Very sexual round 12 bye, Have Balic f6 so if he isn’t named this trade isn’t gonna work as the bench consists of Pickett and Eddy :/

    Hampton – Rance
    Butler – Lloyd

    1. I’ve seen the round 12 bye called a few things, but this is the first time I’ve seen it called ‘sexual’…

  7. Defo waiting a couple of weeks on Selwood. Will be cheap as chips and 2nd half of the season most games are played at Geelong…always scores well there.

  8. Keen to get rid of Hampton this week, and can upgrade to either of the following, but not convinced on either as a potential D6 keeper.

    TU: Hibberd
    TD: Burton

  9. current forwards premos I have are Buddy, Yeo, Steele, Nank, Dahl.
Who do people rate as the best options for D6 (and possibly D5 if I offload Steele)?
Ive narrowed it down to either JJK or Lynch before rd 11 bye or riewoldt/macrae/heeney after rd 11 bye.
Who do people rate as the best out of those guys and is there anyone else worth considering (or worth holding off till after rd13 to bring in greene?)

    1

    0
    1. Macrae is the safest choice, Riewoldt probably has the biggest upside if he gets back to form.
JJK and Lynch will be rollercoasters
Heeney might be too expensive in two weeks

      7

  10. Will be trading out Otten & Butler.
    Trade in either –
TU: T Adams & McNiece (to join my back line of Laird, Shaw, Doc & J Lloyd)
TD: Yeo & McNiece (to join my forward line of Dahl, Macrae, Heeney, Steel & Nank.)

If McNiece not named this week, it’s back to the drawing board, as unfortunately don’t have enough cash for Myers.

  11. SPP > Myers is first trade. For 2nd trade

    T/U – Otten > Adams/Doch (154k / 110k ITB)
    T/D – Butler > Heeney ($133k ITB)

    13

    4
  12. Any bombers fans here?
How is McNiece’s job security? Is he likely to get back into / remain in the team?

  13. Tossing up between 2 ideas for this week -both involve trading out OTTEN & HAMPTON, then deciding on

TU: IN – Laird & Myers OR
TD: IN – McNiece & Merrett or J Kelly

  14. Might need to consider getting rid of Balic before those rookies that will continue to play/score now that Balic is out for a fair while.

  15. G’day guys,
Was originally trading Pickett (finally!) to Myers this week. However, with news coming through that Harley Balic is on ‘indefinite leave’ from the club for personal reasons, was thinking of banking him in for the extra cash. If we knew exactly how long Balic was out for, it would be an easier decision, but at the moment it’s just guess work. Thumbs would be much appreciated. Cheers 🙂

    T/U: Balic – Myers
    T/D: Pickett – Myers

    17

    6
    1. Ballic should now be considered a true Harley B.

      Missing until further notice.

“But the coach and club stand fully behind him”

“He just needs to reboot and reset.”

Maybe the Harleys are hanging out together?

I hope Bennels buying the beers because we are paying him a motza!

Jokes aside, I hope they can both come back and play some good footy for the club.

But I’m not holding my breath.

  16. The Balic news has offered Hampton a reprieve.
Locked in Otten to Myers but now uncertain who to bring in for Balic under 614,400.

    Current backline: H Shaw, K Simpson, S Burgoyne, R Laird, N Newman, C Hampton, J Berry, T Stewart
    Current midfield: P Dangerfield, J Selwood, J Kennedy, S Pendlebury, M Priddis, N Fyfe, J Barrett, SPP, D Myers, H Balic, Z Fisher.

    TU: S Docherty
    TD: M Bontempelli

Whoever is not selected this week will come in at RD12 as Witts (R3) will be cashed out by then.

  17. Hey guys I’m getting rid of butters for heeney this week, which will leave me with -10,000. Any suggestions of who I could trade Otten our for

  18. Was going Myers and upgrade forward this week. Butler out makes at least two donuts on the field up forward.

Here’s the dilemma – TU Stick to trade and bye plan and cop least one fwd donut
OR TD change trade plan with an up/down double to try and save at least one donut in the forwards.

  19. To bring in Danger this week into my Tech League, I need to trade out either

    TU – B Smith Av 77 BE 93
    TD – WHE Av 83 BE 88

  20. what’s the go with yeo? can he keep up the scoring? I’m looking to bring in a forward, can afford anyone and have dalhouse, macrea, heeney, nank and WHE currently…
    T/U go with Yeo
    T/D there’s a better option (suggestions please)

    1. Billings from the Saints? 3 round ave 114.3

He is a top draft pick.(they chose him over BONT) break out candidate, but don’t expect last weeks score every week.

I think he could ave close to Yeo from here on in. and he is $100k cheaper .

      3

      1
    1. thanks baz,
petracca a good POD but not sure i want to bring in someone with an 87 average, whereas Yeo quite possibly a trap but his 113 average is hard to resist…..:) hmmm

  21. Worth waiting a week or two for docherty and upgrading forward line this week with anyone under 640k?
    TU: get docherty this week
TD: upgrade forward line (likely to be yeo or heeney)

    2

    14
    1. Don’t be seduced by Pedersen. Look no further than Brandon Matera a few weeks back as an example. Gawn also aiming to be back by R12 too. Better off saving your $$$ for a premium upgrade

      7

      1
  22. With Lever back snd Jenkins out does that give Otten a reprieve or do we just cut bait?
TU trade Otten to Myers (via Hibberd DDP)
TD hold Otten for anothrr week ?

    1

    18
  23. now that Jenkins is out and Otten is facing the Lions should we hold him for a another week? and get rid of Hoskin-Elliot instead?

TU: yes and trade WHE to JPK
TD: no and trade Otten to Rance

  24. #makeorbreakmyseason
James Stewart and Ivan Soldo in:
    Balic and Preuss out:
Don’t cop a Witts donut this way and believe that Soldino and Stewie can’t score that badly right.. right..

  25. Marchbank to Myers via Adams
    Houston to Stewart

That’ll give me 570k in the kitty, trade Ottens and Roughy next week for Yeo and Docherty.
This game does my head in…

  26. not much in the bank, $24,000

    need some coachs advice

first week where I’m at a loss with what to do, with no back up ruck to cover witts
and having butler/Houston//balic/eddy/and rockliff stuck on the bench. I’m looking at a donut in the forward line and donut for witts. obvious plan is to get Nankervis in which will suit the bye rds with sandi, but again due to lack of funds can’t even downgrade one to then trade in Nankervis, so what to do hmmm,
I don’t want to do a panic trade and trade out rockliff to free up cash, so my thinking is to bite the bullet and maybe just do a double downgrade, which should free up cash $$$ and clear out say butler and balic, which lets attack the bye rds with gusto
    have 20 trade left
    T/U do the double downgrade
    T/D there’s a better solution

  27. with jenkins out, is it owrth keeping otten for now?

I was going to trade otten to myers via hibberd (nrth) and spp to yeo via balic, but with jenkins out otten might do better. thoughts??

  28. Current Team:
    Def:
Docherty, Laird, Adams, Marchbank, Otten & Newman (Stewart & Berry)
    Mid:
Bontempelli, Dangerfield, Oliver, Treloar, Kennedy, Fyfe, Beams & Fisher (Powell-Pepper, Barrett & Fox)
    Ruck:
    Sandi & Witts (Strnadica)
    Fwd:
Dalhaus, Heeney, Franklin, Nank, Parsons & Balic (Lynch & Eddy)

    $379.5k & 18 trades left

    Plans for the week:
So was going to trade Otten but will hold now. Need some help though in terms of trades:

TU: Balic to Durdin & Fox to Myers (2 downgrades)
TD: Fox to Myers & Balic to a Prem Fwd – Today Greene for POD is my choice..

Any other advice would be welcome to.

  29. Going to cop a donut unless I trade in a rookie a week early
    T/U James stewart
    T/D Fraiser McInnes
Thoughts on eithers job security or scoring potential would be greatly appreciated thanks

  30. Why are some in such a hurry to get rid of SPP (unless to avoid the Big ‘O’). His BE is still OK for awhile and he can plug some holes during bye time.

  31. Barring some unexpected generosity from the real-life coaches over the next couple of weeks, who on Earth are we supposed to downgrade to over the byes?

  32. What are people’s thoughts on J Berry?
Will have some JS with Rocky out for a few. Lining up in the middle and has DPP (to use with Hibberd). Although he has increased in price is he still an option? How much is expected to increase with a BE of -8?
    TU: Worth considering
    TD: That boat sailed

    0

    2
    1. Every point above BE is worth ~$450

He’s projected to score 47 for $23.9k but I would be thinking he goes 65ish for ~$32k increase this week.

JS is looking pretty good. It’s obviously not ideal but if he’s the best option out there this week you can take it.

  33. 127K left.
Shaw, Tuohy, Otten, Newmann, Marchbank, Berry (Hampton, Hibberd)
Adams, Danger, Pendles, Fyfe, JPK, Macrae, Merrett, Pepper, (Beams, Barrett, Balik)
    Martin, Sandi (Strnadica)
Nank, Buddy, Roughy, Dahl, Taranto, Butler, (Eddy, Parsons)
T/U Hampton > Myers via Adams DPP?
Butler to a Premo FWD – Kennedy, Teo, or Green?

    or

    Other options very welcome

    1. You need to get Macrae to forward line and Adams to backline so you can get some more premium mids
