Trade Talk Rd11

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 26 2019

Rookies……….be gone from my side!  Upgrading season is well underway…….we just need a few decent downgrade options to help us out.  Oliver copped the De Boer tag and his price will take a hit while Whitfield hit his BE and is about to sky-rocket.  What moves are you looking at for this early stage?

  1. DEF: Hurn, Lloyd, Whitfield, Moore, Hore, Duursma, Hinge & Burgess

MID: J. Kelly, Fyfe, Macrae, Oliver, Cripps, M. Crouch, Walsh, Atkins, Answerth, Scott & T. Watson (loophole)

    RUCK: Grundy, Gawn & ROB

FWD: Boak, Danger, Heeney, Darling, Baker, Bolton, Corbett & Setterfield

168k in the bank and 19 trades left.

Just jumped to 4707 and feel like I have to press the attack, any thoughts on what trades I should make this week?

      1. I could bring Neale in this week? ROB -> Fort and then cow -> Neale, but that’d be another R13 bye player.

I’ve only got 4 R12 bye players, so I could possibly bring in Zerrett or Sicily- but is there any point to trading in a player who has their bye the following week?

        Conflicted.

        1. Try and hold ROB till after byes…gives you one ruck for r13 at least. Can then downgrade him to a dud for a juicy upgrade. Dont think Fort is a long term option.

          1

          2
        2. Would give Zerrett a miss – has Eagles (Hutchings), GWS (deBoer) and Sydney (Hewett) straight after his bye.

        3. Sounds like Sauce may be back this week (albeit in the SANFL). With ROB up against Gawn this week, I’m likely taking the money now.
Whether to Fort or anyone else via Bines and other DPPs.
Should be able to field 20 in R13, just no RUCs.

          3

          1. Yeah, thinking ROB down to Fort (if named) or another loophole (don’t have Bines) and then maybe Moore to Houli? Leaves me with 328k in the bank and one less R13 bye player, then I can get rid of another R13 player in Atkins next week. Would still only have 16 playing in R13 though after those, which I why I’m kind of freaking out.

  2. First trade this week is trading my Main team with my Tech team to now become my main team. Tech team ranking 5400th for the week and up to 32500th in overall after being 100k in rd 3. Main team was 4k in rd 7 now out to 12.5k.

Main team definitely now the chopping block after multiple lacklustre performances, but is the Tech team a flash in the pan.

TU Go the trade and cut my losses
TD Stick by the team and go through thick and thin to show i am a worthy coach
    😉

    1. Lol. My TECHTeam had another massive week. 2479.
Bringing in Josh Kelly this week.
Outscored my proper team by over 450pts over the last 4 weeks!
      Can I swap too?!

  3. I’m only one premo away from completion for my DEF/MIDs so it’s time to address my forward line.

    Lockhart>Hinge
Bolton>Heeney, I think. Especially with Buddy coming back and his low price.

Does anyone have any other recommendations? Cameron maybe?
Boak is 3k out of my price range.

    9

    1
    1. I’d probably go Heeney if the bye isn’t a concern. Boak should be cheaper after his bye as he still has a high BE.

      0

      0
      1. Boak is in the cards after his bye. I’ll be able to parlay Setterfield into Boak quite easily after Rd 12.

        1

  4. This all depends on hately being named but these are my choices legends.

    TU: Constable to hately
    Stack to treloar

    TD: Constable to hately
    Walsh to neale

    11

    25
  5. Due to team selections I didn’t bring J Macrae in, instead selecting J Lloyd. Therefore will likely trade Constable to J Macrae or P Cripps but means I’ll have to field 1 of C Burgess/R Young/W Setterfield unless I select Dunkley instead.

If J Macrae/P Cripps is selected then I’ll only have 1 mid spot to fill which will likely be reserved for the unlucky one out of the aforementioned duo to join the current sextet of L Neale, R Sloane, Z Merrett, J Kelly, N Fyfe and C Oliver.

Will target R Gray to replace W Hayes/W Setterfield in RD13 which will leave L Baker, S Walsh and M Hore as the only on-field rookies.

  6. probably go 1 up 1 down this week
    constable > bewley
    rocky > kelly or fyfe

    FYI
constable injured in the 2’s with leg early & didn’t finish
hately had a poor one in his 2’s game

    5

    11
    1. According to the AFL website, Hately killed it:

“Draftee Jackson Hately was one of the Giants’ best in their 42-point loss to Brisbane, having a game-high 36 disposals, as well as six marks and six tackles.”

      1. ppl tend to forget that he was cheap , fit & didn’t cop much attention last year when we all started with him , so he was a good value pick that went under the radar & performed well for his price
this year he started more expensive & had a bullseye on his back ,
we all got sucked in expecting him to improve further , even though his preseason numbers didn’t support it
imo , even if he gets back to full fitness , he wont break out ,
        he’ll be reliable @ best

        11

        3
    1. Not mad at all, HH.

He’s clearly not going to finish Top 10 on averages and is carrying what appears to be two injuries. If you’ve got the trades, sufficient cash and it doesn’t sidetrack your trade strategy going in to the byes, I don’t see a problem in off-loading him.

You will hear the whole “don’t sideways trade premos” but he isn’t scoring like a premo, is he? Especially when you compare to the premium options in the midfield, many of whom are averging 25 pts more than him.

I had the same debacle with Steele and when I wanted to trade him to J. Kelly two weeks ago.

I copped plenty of T.Ds on the basis of the “don’t sideways trade premos” rule. Not to suggest that the “don’t sideways trade premos” rule is wrong, but in instances where the premo you’re trading is clearly under performing a case can be made to trade- eg. you couldn’t argue that Steele to J. Kelly was a bad move, cost me a trade but J. Kelly will clearly kill Steele from here on out; already net me 85 pts and another viable captaincy option each week.

      11

      1
      1. These calls and make or break you though. Do you trade out those not quote premos during season and pretty much lose out to those that are adding a premo at the expense of a rookie/midpricer, or upgrade your whole team first and then look to shift a cogs/Steele to a m9re desired premo?
I’d rather upgrade my whole team first then fix these guys. I’ve kept darling and started dunks. Why dunks has repaid the faith, darling is definitely playing better too- well scoring better anyway.
If someone is cheap and you see an opportunistic move by switching an underperformed I can see some merit, or if you trade out say a cogs and a rookie and bring in 2 bona fide premos that would sit better I’d say.
So many paths to take in this game!
Good luck which ever way you drop mate

        8

    2. Too late to ditch now, the time was 3 weeks ago when he still had value. He has GC this week, let’s hope he bounces back. In hindsight Taranto was the better option and if you didn’t get Kelly we’ve missed the boat there. There is 170k difference between Cogs and Kelly now

      4

      1
  7. Double downgrade this week, in order to cash up for the bye rounds:

    Gibbons to OBaker
Either Lockhart or Hayes to Young, who will sit at F8 for the rest of the year

    11

    7
  8. how many trades does everyone still have and how many rookies?
I am doing so badly i still have 6 r0okies and 20 trades only.

    0

    0
    1. Nothing wrong with that, I have the Same.

I’ve seen a few teams with 6 and 15-17 left.

If you can come out of the byes with 10 trades up your sleeve and 1 trade from full premo you’re looking alright.

      2

  9. Scott > Hinge (Via Answerth)
    Walsh > Kelly

    Leaves 9k in the bank

Seen the comments above regarding Cogs. I have him aswell, but I think between him and Walsh, Walsh is the better upgrade atm.

    10

    1
    1. Now that I’m thinking of it, I still have Petrucelle. Between him and Walsh it’s a no brainer as to who the weaker one is.

529k to use on a fwd. Thinking Cameron with the way GSW playing and their run in.

Otherwise, use the Walsh upgrade cash on getting in Duncan instead of Kelly who is 50k cheaper and similiar run in where he will score consistently well

T/U Stick to the Kelly upgrade
      T/D Bring in Cameron
      Comment for the Walsh>Duncan Trade

  10. is trading rozee ($402k BE 57) to hinge/bewley worth it if it means i can go ROB to grundy this week? Grundy is projected to be 700+k post bye
but Rozee may have another 15k in him if i hold him…

TU: you have to get in grundy ASAP

TD: hold off for grundy til post bye

    36

    1
    1. Just get him in. $15k is nothing worth waiting for when Hinge will likely give you $45k+ this week, and Grundy 140pts!
      Do it!!

      3

      0
  11. Is Luke Ryan a Viable option?
I can trade Duursma & Scrimshaw to Ryan & Hinge. (don’t have Whitfield & Hurn)
    TU: Yes
    TD: No

    16

    13
  12. Have 200k in bank. Can trade goldy to grundy if I want, should I do it TU, or a pure extravagant luxury trade TD. ?

    9

    14
  13. Interested to hear people’s thoughts on Dayne Zorko, has he had a role change as he has been scoring very well lately, and do you think he can keep it up fo the rest of the year?

    Cheers

    13

    7
  14. Have O’Brien on the bench. Is a swap to Robbie Gray worth it? If he can average 95-100 from here on could be great value and far better than fielding
    Putridcelle.

    10

    14
  15. Why are people even considering trading Duursma? He just knocked out a tonne. Rocky likely out next week too. After China he has a rnd12 bye so he will go up rnd11 and rnd13 and give good cover for rnd14. Then he’s prime to trade. Also has dpp with Answerth if like me you have him. Just wondering why i see so many people even considering it…

    29

    1
  16. DEF: Hurn Sicily Williams BSmith Rozee Duursma (Answerth Clark)

MID: Cripps Fyfe Macrae Oliver TKelly Treloar Crouch Walsh (scott setters atkins)

    RUCK: Gawn ROB (Bines)

FWD: Danger Heeney Cameron Dunkley Marshall Larkey (MLewis Burgess)

TU: Rozee -> hinge (leaves me very light at D5&6)
    ROB -> Grundy

    TD: Rozee -> Whitfield
    Clark/Atkins -> Hinge/Bewley

    1

    6
  17. Constable and Butters to Lloyd and Hately, leaving me with the following:

Def: Hurn, Lloyd, Whitfield, Williams, B. Smith, Hore (Clark, Answerth)
Mid: Neale, Fyfe, Macrae, Oliver, Cripps, B. Crouch, Libba, Duursma (Hately, Scott, Rowbottom)
    Ruck: Grundy, Goldy (Bines)
Fwd: Kelly, Danger, Billings, Heeney, Lycett, Baker (Setterfield, Young).

19 trades left if I make the trades.

    TU: Do it
TD: Save the trades (or offer a comment below)

    8

    2
    1. if ya want a midfielder go bewley over hately.. bank more $$
hately will struggle to break into GWS especially when they are winning so well.
Bewley had a great game alot better than his SC score shows has alot better JS.

      10

      0
      1. Hately killed it again in reserves and has a monster breakeven though… and I’d be shifting Duursma back to defence and selling Clark or Answerth next week so buying Bewley then for sure!

        2

        0
    2. Put Answerth into your mid and get Hinge instead of Hately assuming he isn’t named.

      8

      0
    3. That’s gonna leave you with three on the MID bench who aren’t playing!?
Not good for the byes. You need to get rid of non-playing rookies as a priority for the byes.
I think Constable and Butters have a better chance of playing than certainly Scott and Hately.

      3

      0
  18. Really want Kelly this week vs Suns. Have resisted from trading these two rookies studs but thinking of ROB and Walsh > Kelly and Hinge (via DPP). Dont want to trade COGS the week he is playing the suns (hopefully a massive score is coming).

After trades, the team would be:
DEF: Hurn, Lloyd, Whitfield, Williams, Smith, Hore (Clark, Hinge)
MID: JKelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Macrae, Oliver, COGS, Duursma, Butters (Stocker, Setters, Hayes)
    RUCK: Grundy, Gawn (Bines)
FWD: TKelly, Danger, Heeney, Moore, Baker, Balta (Burgess, Young)

    TU: Do it
TD: Upgrade other rooks to FWD premos (Boak, Dunks)

Would leave me with 19 trades left.

    2

    10
  19. Wanted to get J Kelly in a few weeks ago, but was restricted due to so many injuries… Do I get him now @645,000???

TU- Yes, get him in ASAP

    TD- No, too expensive

    7

    32
  20. Oliver is an interesting one. I’m almost certain I’ll end up holding him, but at 585k he’s likely at his highest price point for the rest of the year, with that 175 about to leave his cycle. Could be a straight swap for a few players who are averaging 10ppg more. Has a decent run home, but a 105 avg doesn’t really cut it.

    3

    3
    1. Dees improve I’d say his average rises. Dees imo will improve but probably not make the 8. Anyhow, I wouldn’t be trading him out if I had him

      3

      0
  21. I need to move Rockliff on
Been rotating Clark answerth and Lockhart at d6
    Was thinking
T/u Lockhart to broadbent and rockiff to crouch
T/d Lockhart to hinge Rockliff to Kelly meaning rotating on of the three through d6 again
Currently ranked 130 so feel this trade might make or kill my season

    1

    8
    1. I’d do it if I were that high in the rankings but only IF Rockliff isn’t playing.
Port said earlier today that he would be flying to China, which means he has to be a real good chance to play. They wouldn’t take him otherwise. He also had a run this morning after positive scans 🙂

      1

      0
  22. The only way I can get Whitfield in this week is if I trade in a $102,000 FWD

T/U – Get him in any way possible
T/D – Waste of a trade and no cash generation

    4

    20
  23. Current onfield with 21 trades left…

Def: Hurn, Lloyd, Whitfield, Ryan, Hore, Duursma
    Ruck: Grundy, Goldy
Mid: Fyfe, Macrae, Oliver, Sloane, Cripps, M.Crouch, Walsh, Gibbons/Setters
Fwd: Kelly, Dunkley, Danger, Heeney, Parker, Corbett

Thinking double downgrade of bench warmers for cash generation….
J.Clarke to Hinge and Setters to Bewley will give me 284k for double upgrade first bye round.

    TU: Yes
    TD: No
    Comment for other options?

  24. my team so far is looking like this:

lloyd, whitfield, stewart, b smith, hore, duursma: clark and answerth

neal, cripps, bont, cunnington, conilgio, rockliff, atkins, bewley: setterfield and hately and b scott

danger, t kelly, dunkley, heeney, rozee, petruccelle : parker and t wilkonsin

with rockliff out injured what do i do? TRADE OR HOLD

with needed 2 premos in for, def, mid (excluded rockliff) which position do i fill first?

    1

    1
  25. T/U – Clark to Hinge + Miers to Cameron (Duursma and Answerth in MID)

T/D – Clark to O Baker + Miers to Cameron (Answerth to DEF for DPP coverage)

    7

  26. Really need some help with trades this week please. Lots of injury doubts in my team so that’s going to determine what I do.

DEF: Lloyd, Whitfield, Smith, Duursma, Clark, Answerth, Z Williams, Burgess
MID: Neale, Macrae, Oliver, Cripps, Kennedy, Shiel, Steele, Stocker, Butters, Hayes, Scott
    RUCK: Grundy, Gawn, Bines
FWD: Kelly, Boak, Danger, Marshall, Petrucelle, Parker, Setterfield, Young

61k in the bank and 19 trades left.

    1

  27. T/U : Jeremy Cameron
    T/D : Caleb Daniel

Comment: Wait till next week when I can afford boak with the same trade

    10

    6
  28. OUT B. Smith, Constable
IN Whitfield, rookie (undecided on who yet)

    TU: Do it
TD: No, B. Smith should stay

Also, any tips on which rookie to pick up would be greatly appreciated. Can be any of MID, DEF and FWD via DPP

    3

    10
  29. Took Lockhart out for Baker. And rocky for yeo. I am also wondering would it be crazy to keep liem Baker. And balta. As well as hore and x duursma. I reckon those 4 are scoring huge might keep them till later in the year. What do u guys think

    1. I’ve got a similar plan Haydyn, the only difference is that Rd 12 trade. You run the risk of Bewley not holding his place after the bye.
Of course, if you’re not worried about that, then that looks great.

      1

  31. Scrimshaw down to Hinge, Drew up to a forward under 516k. Was thinking Tom Hawkins but comment any other options.
    Tu: Yes
    Td: No

  32. Got the top three DEF in Hurn, Whitfield and Lloyd as well as Williams.

Next best DEF to bring in this week then:

TU – Houli (AVG 106, BE 56, Rd 14 BYE)
TD – Stewart (AVG 102, BE 99, Rd 13 BYE)
Comment – LRyan (AVG 105, BE 102, Rd 12 BYE)

      1. dbl down grade last wk to go smith – hurn and maybe williams – whitfield this wk and now with his BE I’m very tempted but I guess the ? really is, will Williams be a top 6 defender. should I hold him and bring in Whitfield after the byes and have both…..cheers

  33. t/u – rozee and clark to hinge and begley (will leave 400k in the bank)
    t/d – any 2 rookies to a mid premo
    reply – trade rockliff out

  34. Current fwds before trading are Danger, T Kelly, Dunkley, Heeney, Baker, Burgess (Young & Bines)

Can’t afford to play Burgess or Young on ground so need to find an upgrade.

    Stack —> Hinge via Answerth

    ROB —> Boak via Bines

Wanted to keep O’Brien to cover R13 but need premo FWD

  35. Just wondering what happens with the mid-season draft? Will the players be added to S/C tonight? Will they all be priced as bottom line rookies?

    2

  36. I have 200k in the bank and COULD go Grundy to Grundy in 1 trade. Should I do it or is just a luxury trade?

Goldy seems to be coming good at long last

    1

    1
  37. T/U – Clark to Hinge + Miers to Cameron
T/D – Double Downgrade, Clark to Hinge + Miers to Fort (Leaves $431,200 itb)

    3

  38. Reilly O’BRIEN will be a bulldog next year.
Talks are well progressed. Suggests a Sauce return will be sooner rather than later.

  39. what’s the likely good of Williams, Moore, Crouch and Danger all coming back this week.

Hard to plan any trades without knowing who I need to cover.

      1. Thanks GD. That’s him done then. Thanks for the points and the cash Darcy. Might see you next year?! or the year after.

        4

        0
        1. Yeah. SC aside, he was having a great year; not far off AA selection, I’d day.

Was always going to cull him before his bye, guess he goes this week to either Houli, Ryan or Sicily. Thoughts?

          T.U: Houli
          T.D: Ryan
          Comment: Sicily

          1

          6
    1. Might be okay considering Essendon’s injury list, especially up forward with Daniher, Fantasia and now Stringer all sidelined.

Poor scoring output though, due to both his role up forward (ball ain’t gonna be down there much) and his DE hasn’t been good. Also, the 167k price tag doesn’t help his cash generation.

Could make that case for him if you just need the FWD downgrade/cover.

      2

  40. Tim Taranto
    Tu:good
    Tu:keep looking

His scores have been really good, and he has a breakeven of 60

    7

    0
    1. If you’ve got the main midfield premos, think Taranto is a solid pick to finish off your midfield.

      6

      0
  41. Thoughts on bringing in Lobb after round 12 to use as ruck coverage (via bines dpp, I have Grundy/Gawn who both have the rnd 13 bye) and to keep as F6/F7?

    TU – Good idea.
    TD – Not worth it.

    3

    5
  42. Want to trade 1up and 1down (Lloyd and Hinge). With Clark, Duursma and Baker going off and others like Scott, Moore (Haw) and Answerth not ready, who do i trade out of Moore (pies), Drew and Constable?

    TU Moore/Drew
    TD Moore/Constable

Going on earlier post Moore has hamstring issues. Comments welcome for other idea. Thanks peoples!

    2

    7
      1. Didn’t know De Boer played for Melbourne!

Hopefully Mrouch is back in this week or next, so he might be a possibility to take the De Boer tag instead.

        2

        0
  43. DEF: Lloyd, Whitfield, Laird, Williams, Smith, Hore (Clark, answerth)
MID: Cripps, Oliver, Fyfe, Mundy, Coniglio, Rockliff, Duursma, Stocker
    (gibbons, scott, hayes)
FWD: Danger, Heeney, Kelly, Dunkley, Billings, Bolton (setterfield, cavarra)
    RUCKS: Grundy, ROB

With 80k in the bank, and people like ROB, Brodie Smith and an under-performing midfield, i am stuck with my trade options available.

  44. DEF: Hurn, Whitfield, Williams, Smith, Hore, Duursma (Clark, Answerth)
MID: Cripps, Macrae, Fyfe, Oliver, Neale, Sloane, Walsh, Atkins (Constable, Hayes, Scott)
    RUC: Gawn, Grundy (ROB)
FWD: Danger, Heeney, Kelly, Dunkley, Parker, Corbett (Setterfield, Young)

About 14k in bank and 21 trades to go, ranked 400ish…
Been trying to plan and attack for the byes to ensure i can maintain my personal best rank. Few non-playing rookies on the bench are my concern but all are players still in selection frame. Trend of one down, one up has been a popular strategy i have been using this year.

Unsure whether to continue this trend and strengthen that forward line through F5&F6 this week or hold steady and build cash for the byes.

    Thinking:
Clark > Hinge (looks a good player)
Constable > J.Cameron via dpp (has Gold Coast this week and is looking unreal)
    Thoughts on this?
Otherwise i may just do Constable > Hinge to generate some cash leading into byes.

TU: Clark and Constable to Hinge and Cameron, 30k left
TD: Constable to Hinge, 240k left for byes

Current bye structure would then move to 23-18-19

  45. Thinking

    Constable – Hinge
    O’Brien – Fort.

Gives me 540k for double upgrade next week.

Trying to get more 13/14 bye players as my r12 is stacked. Looking at Bont for mid but he seems to have dropped off the last 5 weeks so a bit cautious
