Trade Talk Rd12 – PART TWO

Written by Schwarzwalder on June 5 2019

Hurn OUT, Whitfield OUT, Crouch still no good thing to get up……Why do we bother even trying to plan for the Byes? Moves need to be made? What are they?

  1. If you are playing for overall prize, is it a must to trade whitfield out???

    TU – Trade

    TD- Hold

    1. Yep, I think so, he’s reportedly out for 6+ weeks and coming back with a high BE , you’ll need to keep a trade up your sleeve to get him back in though, should be picking him up in the 540k range.

  2. Finlayson in for Whitfield. Finlayson to see more of it with Whitfield out and some unexpected cash generation to boot?

    TU: Yes
    TD: No

    3

    1. Isn’t Finlayson a key/mobile forward? How will Whitfield being out allow him more points?
Williams will be the biggest beneficiary, imo.

  3. Will Jack Billings find himself back playing in the midfield/wing after the byes?
Noticed he was playing as a deep fwd for large parts of the game in china, however in saying that, he was supposedly crook.
    Thoughts ???

      1. Burgess has job security and should play out the season, with a handy DPP. Hayes, on the other hand, has neither.

  4. Trading out Whitfield. I’ve held Williams through his “1-2 week” injury, so I’m definitely not keeping Whitfield for 6 weeks.

Normally, he’d be a straight swap to another premo defender. However, the defenders I want (Hurn, Sicily, Ryan, Stewart) are all either on their bye this week, or have the dreaded Rd13 bye (Hurn is also injured).
So using Duursma, I can bring in a midfielder instead. I refuse to shell out the cash for Kelly, given he is stupid expensive right now, but I am very tempted by Cunnington and Coniglio.
My current midfield consists of Cripps, Neale, Oliver, Zerrett and Macrae. I plan on bringing Fyfe in next week also.

    TU: Cunnington
    TD: Coniglio

Also open to any other suggestions. My forward line is completed already, FYI.

    1. Preference would be to keep Duursma a while longer. If possible would you be able to post your team so we can provide alternative recommendations for your trades.

      1. I think he means by swinging Duursma to defence, that’s the way I read it anyway but I could be wrong!

          1. Gday Adam, my team is below:

Lloyd, Whitfield, Laird, Williams, Hore, Moore (Duursma, Answerth)

Neale, Macrae, Oliver, Zerrett, Cripps, Dunkley, Setters, O. Baker (Gibbons, Ross, Hayes)

            Grundy, Gawn (Bines)

Kelly, Danger, Daniel, Cameron, Heeney, Petrucelle (Corbett, Young)

17 trades left, $170k in the bank.

            1. An option could be:
              Rd12:
              Out: J Petrucelle, W Hayes, L Whitfield
              In: B Bewley, S Coniglio, H Andrews
              100,000 left and 20 playing
              Rd13:
              Out: M Hore, D Moore, J Ross
              In: L Ryan, R Gardner, R Gray
              100,000 left and 18 playing
              RD14:
Out: M Gibbons, N Answerth, Corbett
              In: D Clarke, J Sicily, ?
              100,000 left and 22 playing
              RD15:
              Out: X Duursma, W Setterfield/ O Baker
In: G Logue/def rookie, mid premium

  5. Which non-R13 defender to bring in this week? (Tossing up between Sicily, Houli, Laird, Williams and Ryan)

I’m covered for byes otherwise so I can bring in a Rd12 player.

    1

    0
    1. Assume you’re trading out Whitfield for one of them?

I’m in the same boat, gonna wait a week and see how Williams goes. Otherwise, I’ll bring in Sicily.

      4

      1
      1. I’ve come to the same conclusion. Got to keep my trigger-happy trade button subdued for the time being. Only other option I was thinking was Hayes > Cunnington, especially since he’s got GC this week…

        1

        0
        1. Lol, right on again.

Cunnington comes in this week for me as well. Got Adam’s approval to chuck the VC/C against the Suns.

          1

          0
          1. Surprised by the sudden affection for Cunnington. Is in career best form yet can only muster a 113 avg in his 1st half of the season and displays a heavy tendency to handball rather than kick in conjunction with low TOG% which hinders his sc potential. Don’t see him maintaining a disposal avg of just below 30 when historically he hovers around the 21-26 range. But I remember a stat either last year or several years ago that historically mids tend to have career years in SC around the 25-28 year old mark.

About a dozen options around the same price range that present far less risk in conjunction with a solid SuperCoach scoring history but good luck Gunboat Diplomacy if you decide to execute the trade.

            3

            1
            1. Oh no, Adam. Now you’ve sown a seed of doubt lol.

I take your point, but I don’t really see any other options in the midfield that I like. Already have J. Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Macrae and Oliver and I plan on bringing in Neale after his bye.

So those last two spots in my midfield are up for grabs. Basing the decision on form, so it looks like Cunnington, Parker or Yeo will be filling those spots.

TOG is an issue, yes. I’ve gone through the stats of his games year and he pretty much always has 80% TOG. Not ideal, but it keeps him fresh and a certainty to be right in the guts- he’s a CP beast.

              1

              0
              1. Actually there is one other option – Gaff

The main reason I’m going Cunnington this week is just to cover myself for next week where i’m not confident which defender to bring in for Hore/Moore and Whitfield. (I have everyone Gunboat named except Fyfe, although I don’t trust him personally)

So I guess my options are Fyfe, gaff and Cunnington.

                0

                0
                1. Can’t bring in any R13 players until after their byes, otherwise I’d grab Yeo or Gaff this week. One of them will likely finish my midfield.

                  1

                  0
                  1. I’m starting to think Cunnington might not be worth the risk and holding out until Rd 13 players are available.. or do I dare go Fyfe?

                    1

                    0
                    1. Fyfe was my first upgrade. He’s had his annual injury/missed games already and is scoring well. 145 at the G against Collingwood, despite his poor history there, is also telling.

Don’t see any reason to jump off Cunnington though.

Currently, he’s’s #7 for total points, #9 for avg points and seemingly in career best form.

At worst, he’ll end up M8 and pump out the occasional monster- don’t think that will be the case though, can see him (and North) finding some consistency.

                      0

                      1
              2. If you are patient or dependent on your bye structure there could be a variety of lower risk/value/ high potential options.

                M Crouch, A Brayshaw sub 500,000
                R Sloane, S Pendlebury, Z Merrett, S Coniglio, E Yeo, A Gaff, etc low/mid/high 500,000’s

                1

                0
                1. Crouch: never again, Brayshaw: hell no, Sloane: returning from injury, Pendles: inconsistent, Zerret: tags in the coming weeks, Yeo/Gaff: after their bye.

Coniglio is interesting. The 207 ceiling is obviously attractive but he does not handle a tag well and his scores so far either fall into sub ton, just on the ton or a big ton/double ton. Don’t know how to read him.

  6. Was keen to limit trades this week but Hurn and Whitfield out means I need to make a move or two (or three).

    So which is best?

    TU:
    Whitfield-Houli (Rd 14 bye)
    Lockhart-Coniglio (Rd 14)
    Balta-Gardner

    TD:
    Whitfield-Laird (Rd 14)
    Lockhart-Pendlebury (Rd 13)
    Balta-Gardner

    Comment:
    Whitfield-Sicily (Rd 12)
    Lockhart-Cunnington (Rd 14)
    Balta-Gardner

      1. Thanks Adam. Current team before trades:

DEF – Hurn, Lloyd, Whitfield, Williams, Hore, Duursma (Answerth, Burgess)

MID – Neale, Fyfe, Macrae, Oliver, Cripps, MCrouch, Walsh, OBaker (Lockhart, Setterfield, Stocker)

        RUC – Grundy, Gawn (Bines)

FWD – TKelly, Dangerfield, Daniel, JCameron, Heeney, Westhoff (Balta, Young)

        2

        0
            1. An option could be
              RD12:
              Out: M Hore, L Whitfield, N Balta
              In: R Gardner, R Laird, J Sicily
              180,000 left and 20 playing

              Rd13:
              Out: J Lockhart, N Answerth, W Setterfield
              In: B Bewley, L Ryan, D Clarke
              130,000 left and 18 playing

              RD14:
              Out: L Stocker, X Duursma
              In: mid premium, G Logue/rookie

  7. After some help with bye planning – team is below:

Lloyd, Whitfield, Laird, Williams, Hore, Clark (Sicily, Answerth)

Neale, Macrae, Cripps, Crouch, Heeney, Coniglio, Stack, O. Baker (Hately, Steele, Liberatore)

    Grundy, Gawn (Schlensog)

Kelly, Danger, Dunkley, Cameron, Balta, Baker (Burgess, Young)

16 trades left, $58k in the bank.

    1

    0
    1. At this stage I’m thinking:
      R12 – Whitfield + Balta -> Andrews + Clarke/Bewley ($350k + 14 trades) 22 players
      R13 – Hore + Clark + Stack -> Ryan + Boak + Gardner ($240k + 11 trades) 19 players
      R14 – Baker -> Premo Mid ($0k + 10 trades left) 21 players
Players left assumes all rookies named (big assumption I know)

      Leaves team as:
Andrews, Williams, Laird, Lloyd, Sicily, Ryan (Answerth, Burgess)
Cripps, Crouch, Neale, Macrae, Coniglio, Steele, Liberatore, $600k Premo (Clarke, Baker, Hately)
      Grundy, Gawn (Schlensog)
Cameron, Danger, Kelly, Dunkley, Heeney, Boak (Young, Gardner)

with 10 trades for the rest of the season to downgrade rookies, upgrade Libba and cover injuries. How goods a plan before it all collapses in a pile??

      3

      1
      1. Have reconsidered:

        R12 – Whitfield -> Andrews (22 playing + $167k)
        R13 – Hore + Clark + Balta -> Ryan + Bewley/Clarke + Boak/Daniel/Marshall (18 playing + $92k)
        R14 – Baker + Stack -> Premo Mid + Gardner (on bubble) (21 playing + $0)

Pretty much just moves a rookie downgrade trade from R12 to R14 which will allow a second look at Gardner/Clarke.

        Thoughts?

  8. Not keen on Houli – always been a ‘purple patch’ player.

Averaged 130 for 4 weeks in 2017 but only 95 for the year.

    Came out with 127 & 144 in 2016, before a pair of 59s.

    Started 2015 with a 5 week average of 117, including a 150 & 160, but again only averaged 95 over 22 games.

If he had a history of elite scoring like Rocky, Fyfe or Kelly, then he would be worth the injury risk, but think I’ll pass.

    11

  9. Whitfield to:

    TU -Laird
    TD -Milera + 93k

I’m assuming there is a 5ppg difference from here in favour of laird = 55 pts but will save me a downgrade later.

Current backline : Lloyd, Whitfield, Hurn, Sicily, Crisp, Hore (Duursma, Answerth)

  11. Boys, seriously considering milera as Whitfield replacement. Hes avging 93 without his dud when he got injured. At $410k, that helps me pocket cash to upgrade in the coming rounds.

    TD sounds goos
    TD too risky

  12. Who to bring in for whitfield ??? Can’t have the round 13 bye.

Laird, Houli, Sicily, Ryan….. Anyone else ?

    Feedback Appreciated.

    1. Hi Mez.
There are a “million” posts above dealing with the Whitfield issue…your answer lies above!

  13. Thinking I’ll go

    Whitfield to Andrews
    O’Brien to fort
    Drew to Boak

That leaves me with $240,700 itb and 17 trades

    Tu do it
    Td rethink it

    11

    1. Sounds good, Sam

No need to go Fort though. Unlikely to get another game. There was a late-out ruck spot last weekend and they called up Zac Smith instead. They also clearly rate Ratugolea more than him.

Go for another loophole (Sweet) and bank the extra 15k, will come in handy.

  14. 1 game out of Whitfield and will now cost 2 trades (even 3 if he starts burning again at the end of the season). SC is so much fun!

  15. For next week, do you guys think
    TU: Ryan
    TD: Blakely
Will be the better upgrade for jordan clark? I’m concerned about how Pearce’s injury will affect Ryan’s scoring, but I haven’t watched any Freo games so wouldn’t know for sure

    6

    1
    1. Crouch Potatoes.

      I’m going Blakely next week.

I got a bit burnt by Ryan late last year ,when he was forced into a more accountable role. This is possible again with Pierce out.

Blakely has always been touted as a midfield option. I’m hoping Steven Hill comes back and goes to H/B freeing Blakely up to play more midfield time.

With my budget quite tight to get to Full Premo, the $70K difference will come in handy also.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

      6

      1. Blakely has yet to do much this season. I was all excited for him in the preseason, but the promised Mills to midfield it looks like it’s another year’s wait

  16. Trade Slaone or hold?
    Got 21 trades,
In the modern game there’s no such thing as a one week hammy so can see him missing next week then Crows have the bye.
    3 weeks out for mine.

    Yay? Nay?

    2

    1
    1. With 21 trades I’d say go for it if you want. Depends on other lines and whoever else you have in your team. But hey, 21 trades heading into round 12, you can afford at least 1 or 2 sideways.

  17. thinking…

    Whitfield > Houli
    Hayes > Gardner (via Duursma)
    Or
    Hayes > Rotham (via Duursma)
    if Rothams named.

It gives me $402,400 left for next week and 22 playing on field this week.

    thoughts?

TU – yeah good idea mate, bank some cash.
TD – nah, waste of a trade.

    0

    1. Three trades next week.. I’d wait on Gardner. Might end up with a rookie not named round 13 or 14

  18. Whitfield into Williams.

Williams to be the scoring beneficiary of Whitfield’s out.

    TU: Yes
    TD: Choose another back

  19. So im traded in Rupert Wills when he was playing but now he is not in the team seems to me he is out now.

    TU: TRADE HIM OUT
    TD: SHOULD BE PLAYING SOON

  20. Deciding between Lloyd and Houli for Whitfield just don’t know who to pick. Was trying to get both but don’t think i can so here are my options. (I already have Laird and Williams)

T/up – Trade Whitfield to Lloyd, Stocker to Rotham (if he plays) via DPP with Answerth and then trade Wilkie up to Sicily for next week

T/down – Trade Witfield to Houli, Stocker to Rotham (if he plays) via DPP with Answerth and trade Wilkie up to either Ryan or Sicily

    6

    6
  21. Not a trade question….apologies.

My mate has projected score showing on his team page and also has ticks indicating selected players. He’s not a subscriber to SC.

Can anyone shed light on how that works??

    1. I have a feeling it might have something to do with rank.
I had all that jazz before this week as I was in the top 2000 from the beginning. Now i’ve been pushed out in the 3000’s and I’ve lost access to it.

    Tu: Parker
    Td: Duncan

    1. Parker is probably overpriced considering he is 100k more than danger and more expensive than Neale, but he’s in red hot form.

Have you got Kelly and Dunkley?

    1. I’ll be seriously looking at him after the Essendon bye. Seems Essendon have pretty much decided to play youth and That should benefit him, but hard to get too enthusiastic about the job security of a 2nd game player

      1

  23. My luck for the year summed up by trading Whitfield in before last week’s injury.

He’s gotta go, even though I was nicely structured for 22/20/17 for the bye rounds. Only decision now is Rotham or Cameron.

    1

    3
  24. Can’t find anything om Liam Stocker’s foot injury. Would love to know if it’s likely to keep him out a bit so ibknow whether to trade out him or Scott… anyone know anything about it?

  25. Starting to get worried about Billing’s output this year, i know he is averaging 89.. however the past couple of weeks have been poor. Especially the 56 he put up in China. Yes he was crook, but should I trade him out now while I can, otherwise run the risk of him dropping potentially below 400k if he doesn’t start scoring well… ???? Thoughts/feedback appreciated !!!
Or am I just going crazy :/

    TU – Hold Billings

    TD- Trade Billings

  26. What to do with Whitfield?

TU: Use 2 trades to get Kelly (Downgrade Hayes to Bewley)

    TD: Trade him to Cunnington

  27. What do I do with D.Moore (in my fwd line currently) – he has a BE of 94:

    Should I:

T/U : Trade him this round
    T/D : Hold on

    Would appreciate your thoughts!

  28. Is anyone at all looking at Darcy Macpherson? Only in 1% of teams, so certainly a POD up forward. 109, 87, 109, 119 in his last four games. $447k so somewhat cheaper than other forward options.

Looks like a role change to the MID, I haven’t watched him but I’m interested.

I want him but seeing no one else all week mention him has scared me off of him.

    2

    1. Has been up around the stoppages more with Touk out, he comes in this week but Bowes goes out, I like Macpherson basement with the 7 tackles he averages a game that being said I don’t think he can keep up what he’s doing.

  29. Okay so Rotham is playing. I need to pick up 1 of these to save a donut

TU – Rotham (instant cash and score)
TD – Naish (score and better JS?)

    Please help 🙂

  30. I need a R14 bye Defender to replace Whitfield, the obvious answer is Laird but I’m wondering how crazy it would be to take a punt on Lachie Weller? he’s averaging 89.9, 95 since R2, 4 points less a game for 50K i can use elsewhere doesn’t sound too bad to me & if I have a good run with injuries maybe even being a DEF/MID swing man late in the season.

Comment if you think Milera (94 ave -injury game) might be a better option in a similar way.
