Trade Talk Rd16 – PART TWO

Written by Schwarzwalder on July 4 2018

That Big ‘T’ just can’t get a rest, can he?  Now we all have Fyfe to replace plus Guelfi and others to upgrade.  What’s your plan of attack?

  2. I do remember reading on this awesome site awhile back about the best taggers for teams, and now I can’t find it – very interested in seeing taggers that will possibly make an impact on premium players during the 3 weeks of finals. When looking for a Fyfe replacement, I’m keen to know who they are coming up against. Thinking Jacobs from NM and Hewett from Swans – who are the others that seem to do the tagging?

    1. Not the best person to answer this, but

St Kilda: Sinclair v good when given the role recently, but not every week.
      Brisbane: Berry (is as above)
Port: Ebert if they want to lock a gun down
      Adelaide: Greenwood (as Port above)
      Freo: Banfield
Suns: Miller (but couldn’t tag his own clothes)
Hawks: Burton or the other one, can’t remember but looser than most.
Collingwood and Richmond half-hearted at best
      Melbourne: Jones/Vince/ANO

The others kinda depend who it is and how they match up eg Curnow and Yeo might be given specific roles but nothing hard and fast. Probably missed a couple but that’s my view.

I think it rather depends more on who you’re considering bringing in and how they deal with a general tag or how they historically score against a team they are playing, rather than the specific ‘tagger’ they are up against.

Just my thoughts, and I am sure there are other SCTers with far greater insights and knowledge than me.

            1. Yeah hopefully nobody has both because they could be in for a rough night. I have Selwood and expect about 75.

              1. Josh Kelly faces Sydney in R22, Gaff does not face them, Neale does not face them. We all know about Jacobs. In the midst of all these “rule changes” a rule change I would like to see is banning taggers to ease congestion at stoppages 🙂 (obviously joking Damien Peverill is forever my boy)

  3. FURL says Fyfe out for 4-5 weeks , never tells the truth about injuries , hard to believe he will be out for 6-7 , so perhaps its only minor & may only miss 3 ..

  4. 6 trades left. 163k in bank. Full premo team. Forward line Westhoff, Sicily, Heeney, McLean, Fritsch, Gray, Guelfi and Smith.
Trade Guelfi for Billings as F6/7 with Fritsch depending on how they score.
    T/U – Yes do it
T/D – No save the trade

  5. 5 Trades left before trading fyfe to one of the below:

    T/U – Gaff

    T/D – M Crouch

Getting crouch would also allow me to bring in Shuey at M9 giving more cover. But is it really worth bringing him in as M9 even though West Coast play majority of games Sunday and it would bring me down to 3 trades?

  6. Should I go for tom mcdonald or crisp? I know tmac had a bad week but he can easily get back into good form

  7. Current backline:

    Laird, Simpson, Sicily, Howe, Yeo

Who should my last defender be:

    T/U: Lloyd
    T/D: Crisp

Comment: McDonald or Hurley, can afford anyone

  8. Potential trades R16 Mk11

    T/U
    Fyfe < Westhoff (M8)
Austin< Billings (F9) (via Keefe dpp)
Loophole Billings/Ahern for Heeney this week, swing Westhoff back fwd in 2/3 weeks & upgrade Waters/Wingard to fallen premiums ( Macrae maybe as M8 )
Leaving 5 trades & $3,500 bank but full premo & Billings a handy (F9) & rookie bench cover on other lines except ruck

    T/D
    Fyfe < JPK
T Smith (F7), loophole him if picked / Ahern for Heeney this week
Leaving 6 trades & $32k approx bank but full premo with rookie bench cover on all lines except ruck

  9. Mitchell’s Supercoach player notes this round:
Mitchell posted 50 touches with 18 being contested but the best part was that 80% of them were contested.

  10. Only have 3 trades left, trying to decide if I should hold or trade fyfe with estimate of 4-5 which could be longer giving freos season. Have Holman as cover but thinking maybe to long to wait have comfortable made finals in my league and pretty much locked in top 4.

    T/U trade fyfe
    T/D hold fyfe

    1. Tough call with 3 trades but consider if he’s not quite recovering as expected – Freo’s season pretty much done so they may not risk him.

  11. OUT – Fyfe and Guelfi
    IN – Gaff and Menegola
Leaves me with 5 trades and Hibberd, Sauce (in form), Fritsch/Dahlhaus on field

    T/U – Good option
    T/D – Someone else

  12. I know they’re not the ideal replacements, but looking at :
    Fyfe+Guelfi > Heppel+Pendles
Leaves me with $380k and 6 trades with 1 more upgrade needed but bugger all bench cover.
    TU: Do it!
    TD: Look for better options.

    1. Im considering Crouch or Neale for Fyfe? But murray if u can get two proven premos especially with treloar now gone pendles should show signs of consistent form and matty crouch at that price is huge value!

      1. thanks R, I think you are right about Crouch, he represents good value and he has had two good games under his belt. Pendles is proven and I am hoping he gets more mid time now that treloar is out.
My only other option was to go to Gaff and Shuey

  13. Looking for some advice for my last forward spot, leaning towards Robinson as a POD. Am I dumb?

    TU: Robinson
    TD: Buddy/Tmac

  14. In 2016, Lachie Neale averaged 112.4 when both Fyfe and Sandilands were absent. That shot up to 114.8 when Sandilands was present but Fyfe was not.

In the two games when both were playing he averaged 96, and the three with Fyfe but not Sandilands saw him average 111.

    2

    0
    1. Sandilands not playing will probably cost him 5 points a game, he’s also going to get a Hutchings tag and a Howe tag in rounds 19 and 20.

    1. Injured: he’s come back from what was rumoured osteitis pubis, and Cameron has previously described his condition as a week-to-week proposition, so it’s a very real possibility.

Rested: Unlikely. The Giants need all hands on deck to if they’re to finish in the 8, and perhaps even pinch an unlikely top-4 spot. Besides, that’s what the pre-finals bye is for.

      1. Cheers Salamander, if it was rumoured to be OP then I’m not picking him, especially given he’s playing at Optus Stadium this weekend and that ground is causing a host of injuries. I’m going to go Neale even though I think he might get tagged a few times whilst Fyfe is out due to them having a fairly shallow midfield without him. He does have a very impressive history when tagged mind you (he’s a tough lad). It’s really only between these two for me and not Gaff due to them having the higher ceiling.

  15. TU:

    Coffield to Pendlebury

    Final Mids:
TMitchell Cripps Danger Oliver MCrouch Coniglio Pendlebury DMartin

    6 trades (20K in bank)

    TD:
    Fyfe to Neale
    Coffield to Shuey

  16. Down to four trades, playing for league.

    Need thoughts:

    TU:
    Fyfe and Holman OUT
    D Smith and Heppell IN

    TD:
    Fyfe and Holman OUT
    Walters and Crouch IN

Either option leaves me with 2 trades, and only Mihocek / Mirra / ZGL to upgrade.

Thinking Heppell since Bombers are going well. He isn’t particularly damaging, but gets the CPs, so I don’t think he’s an easy tag. And I like D Smith over Walters.

  17. Out: Fyfe & Guelfi

(TU) In: Pendles & Billings (leaves Petracca & Billings at F6 & F7)
    (TD) In: Shuey & Gray (leaves C Curnow & Petracca at F6 & F7)

    Help greatly appreciated.

  18. After a lot of thought, I’m pretty sure I’m bringing in Shawn Higgins for Fyfe. Good run home, doing well, low ownership and now, in my situation, that matters.

Besides, he can’t be on my never again list if I have never had him, right? This will be the first time.

    Yes, I’m praying hard.

Yes, I have already told myself so. Others will too.

    Other mids are:
    Titch
    Oliver
    Danger
    Cripps
    E. Curnow
    Coniglio
    Rocky

And yes, there is a theme of “easy matches the rest of the way” going there.

    (Prepares for the incoming)

    1. Solid midfield, FD

My circumstances are as follows, if I get a better gut feeling reversing trades on a certain player than when I trade them in I abort ….. Higgins is on that list 😉

    2. Father, I’m thinking of left field….Dusty. I kinda think he has been keeping himself in cotton wool but as we all know..he can play and doesn’t lose that. If he lifts just a bit, we all know his ceiling. As a pod, he’s not so appealing still in 30% I think. My heart says Dusty, but my 2377 ranking says JPK.

  19. I’m full premo but not fully satisfied.
I have 5 trades left – $223K in the bank.

Playing for a top 8 position (currently 8th).

    Out: Fyfe
    In: JPK or Gaff
(Was going to go with Crouch but his hand injury scares me).

    T/U: JPK
    T/D: Gaff

  20. Looks like Fyfe to Gaff
    Who goes?
    TU: Fritsch
    TD: Boak

Fristch means anyone up to $477K
Boak means anyone up to $459K

  21. 10 Trades – 20k Just after some advice this week for trades
Thinking Fyfe and cash in Cole for a cheap rookie. Thoughts?

DEF: Laird, H Shaw, Simpson, Sicily, Yeo, T Cole (Austin, L Murphy)
MID: Rockliff, Dusty, Danger, Fyfe, Cogs,Titch, Oliver, Cripps (Giro, Brayshaw (freo), Ahern)
    RUC: Gawn, NicNat (Olango)
FWD: Maclean, R Gray, Buddy, D Smith, Billings, Petracca (Heeney, Guelfi)

  22. Just after some advice on trades this week.
9 trades, 18k. Was thinking of Fyfe and Fritsch to Gaff and Bruest – was initially going to bring in Dawson (GC) but wasn’t named, so I’ve had to change plans. Thoughts?

Def: Simpson, Yeo, Sicily, Laird, Hurn, Webster (J Smith, Keeffe)
Mid: Mitchell, Kelly, Fyfe, Cripps, Dangerfield, Oliver, Coniglio, Martin (Phillips, Ahern, Barry)
    Ruck: Gawn, Martin (Cameron)
Fwd: Heeney, Gray, Smith, Walters, McLean, Fritsch (T Smith, Battle)

  23. TU:
    This week – Fyfe-Oliver & Banfield-Shuey
    6 trades left

    TD:
    This week – Banfield-Gaff & Guelfi-Sier
    Next week – Fyfe-Oliver
    5 trades left

TU gives me better coverage this week for a decent league grudge match whereas TD means playing a rookie on field (eg. Sier) for Fyfe.

Conversely, TD ultimately gives me Oliver/Gaff which is better than Oliver/Shuey but burns an extra trade in the process.

    Decisions hey? Help appreciated.

  25. Call me crazy but I’m thinking of trading in Gibbs for Fyfe, if you look at Gibbs scores when Sloane plays, Round 1-4 & 15 he scored a ton in everyone of those games.
The money saved I can do an upgrade somewhere else,
    What do you guys think?

  26. Fyfe & Guelfi OUT
    TU: Westhoff & Shuey M8 ($38K ITB)
TD: J Kelly & Sier M8 this week to move to MID bench with Ahern when Heeney returns ($196K ITB and wait for Macrae)
6600ish overall, 10 trades and one game clear on top

  27. Dusty is on the chopping board, held on for too long hoping for a turn around.
Current mid setup – titchell, fyfe, j.kelly, danger, jpk, cripps, cogs

T/U wait for McLeans price to drop and pickup
    T/D Oliver
    Comment any other suggestions
