Trade Talk – Rd2

Written by Schwarzwalder on March 25 2018

Not that we’d normally condone trading so early, but if you have Libba or Paddy Ryder then you’re probably eyeing off that Big T button……..

  1. Libba has to go but he is m8. I have Holman and Kelly on the bench. Will swing from fwd or def and with the cash I have in the bank, take a heeney/Simpson type. That said, I donโ€™t have Parker, I wanted him but coniglio is m7. Might just take Parker.

      1. I have four defensive rookies on field. Had more faith in them getting games than some of the mids. Also saw them as better than ldu or Brodie types.

    1. So far, Iโ€™ve narrowed it down to Bonner, Coniglio, JOM, Petracca, Lloyd, Shaw, Savage, McGrath, Smith, CCurnow, Graham, and Marchbank.

      Might require further thought….

        1. Probably won’t play this week. Two concussions in 3 weeks is not good and will probably will be rested for the trip to Perth. So a 17 followed by a 0 (or covered by a 50) is also not good. A trade is warranted.

      1. Thanks Mate!

Yeah you have to let the dust settle before rage trading.
Now how can i not take the advice of the 61st overall ranked player in SuperCoach after Round 1.
Great score for the 10 Team League we are in together for it’s ranking as well.

        1. Haha I dunno mate. Got very lucky so far this year! But yea, no rage trading yet. Lucky you can reverse trade ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. Need to free up some cash trading LDU
    Barry t/u
    Fogarty cats t/d

Leaning towards Fogarty look great out there today

    13

    21
    1. Both have some job security concerns but I feel Fogarty will score better and I kind of already see that correct trade from Barry to Fogarty happening in my side next week.

      2

      3
    2. Hinkley loves Barry, reminds me of last year with SPP. LDU might come good though, he’s got good job security and it was his first game!

  3. Quite pissed that Ryder has to be traded unless some fortune occurs. He was one of the only ruckman I was confident with as I just can’t trust players like Goldy when Pruess is just lying in wait.
I just wanted him to be set and forget but didn’t even last 1 round. This whole week will be just trying to find the right ruckman

      1. Was going to post the same, Jacobs about as reliable as it gets. The 1987 Volvo 240 GL station wagon of rucks. Unexciting but safe and does the job week in and out.

Having said that of course now he’ll get injured next week.

      1. Witts is great, but somewhat injury-prone. Even if you ignore the round 10 bye, if you don’t have cover then this is something you need to consider.

        1

        2
  4. Have Cox in at F5 for F/R swing. But with English playing I may have cover… if English is named in Round 2. Upgrade to better option at F5? Dunkley? Taranto? Someone else? Or too early…?

    All comments and thoughts appreciated.

  5. Merrett and Kruz might make way for Nitnat and Danger. Have the cash but unsure of the extent of their injuries. I guess it is a waiting game.

Might have to try and squeez in Cogneilo somehow the week later.

    1. If you’re playing for the whole enchilada make the trade. If you’re looking to win your head-to-head league, wait it out until the bubble (at least).

  6. Couple of early corrective trades pending Kreuzer’s injury update

    Murphy to Bonner
    Kreuzer to NicNat

    TU Do it
    TD Hold fire

    7

    32
    1. Only Kreuzer if he doesn’t play. Save fire for the other one. Bonner only has played 5 games himself. He’s bound to be inconsistent also. Port scrubbed the floor with Fremantle, that won’t happen every week.

  7. Thinking Zorko down to finlayson makes me 500k plus also opens up do link with Ellis and Angus Brashaw in my side.
    T/U- Good thinkin sunshine!
    T/D- you a crazy man..!!

    2

    1. I too will be trading Zorko, but my situation is due to ruck dramas.

Zorko copped a tag and played badly. He is probe to that.

He was a top 6 midfielder last year though and will bounce back.

      0

      9
      1. Why does the ruck situation necessitate trading out Zorko? Do you have Lycett or something? Otherwise, surely whoever you have (Kreuzer, Ryder) can pay for their own replacement?

        1

        0
        1. Lycett. So I either have to take English and hope or do a downward trade elsewhere for the cash.

As I am happy with all my other players, someone needs to be culled and I’m choosing Zorko at this point because of the price point, and because I want to use Finlayson’s dpp.

With Rich also out for an extended period, the other “easy to tag” lion who has a big impact on games is also out.

If I was a coach, I’d be tagging Zorko at least until Rich is back.

With Rich out, Zorko tagged, and Rocky elsewhere it looks like a long year already for the Lions.

  8. English is on my mind. I was surprised he was named and then very impressed with his score. Thoughts on his JS and if it is worth recruiting him?

    7

    0
    1. I think his js is ok, but the doggies will get schooled next week in the ruck department, maybe wait another week

      4

      2
    2. He was very good from what I saw, the only concern I have is if Boyd or Schache build up some good VFL form and English has a couple of bad games he will be dropped….

      6

      2
    3. Been on my mind as with NicNat already back Lycett looks a really bad R2. Especially considering his woeful 30 points against Sydney’s weak ruck department.

English is the only downward trade I can do at this stage without involving a second trade.

Frampton might get a gig for Ryder though.

  9. Hibberd concerned me yesterday. I wondered if Lever and Lewis down back this year may limit his scoring. Any thoughts?

    7

    5
    1. I didnโ€™t get to watch the first half, but thought he was huge in the last quarter. Might have just been a slow start where he couldnโ€™t get into the game. Heโ€™ll be fine.

      6

      0
      1. I did not factor in that Lever and Lewis playing back may affect him. I feel nervous. I am considering a correctional trade to K.Simpson who looked amazing.

        2

        4
          1. Agreed, chasing points is not a good strategy.

It is concerning that Hibbered was on less than 20 at half time and 36 at three quarter time.

Keep in mind that because he was a top six defender last year does not mean he will be this year. Especially with Lever arriving and Lewis playing more info defence.

Simpson is a proven performer with what looks like a supercoach friendly role.

Will I trade? Probably not, but it is worth considering I think.

  10. Considering trading of Zorko to either Coniglio or Parker.

    T/U – do it
    T/D – Save trades

Potentially have the money to bring in both the players above if I drop a rookie as well, but then that uses up all funds that were saved for a Danger upgrade…..

    2

    38
    1. If It’s just a swap I’d wait a second week. Zorko was a top 6 mid. He got tagged. It happens.

Parker won’t get 150 next week and Zorko won’t score 32. You are chasing yesterday’s points.

      13

      0
        1. Itโ€™s more about jumping on before he starts rising. Also, like I mentioned, Iโ€™ve got the Danger to look at in a few weeks too… hmmmm……

          1

          2
  11. Considering rectifying my mistake of selecting J McGovern and S Lycett over R Bonner and T Goldstein.

TU: Bring in R Bonner and T Goldstein
TD: Keep McGovern and Lycett and make Goldy/S Martin 1st upgrade target.

North Melbourne’s next 2 games are against St Kilda and Melbourne.
    T Goldstein:
    Avg VS StK since 2011: 120.7 from 10 (low of 92 and a high of 166, 1/10 below 100, 5/10 120+)

    Avg VS Melb since 2011: 145.71 from 7 (low of 100 and a high of 172, 1/7 below 100, 6/7 120+, 4/7 150+)

    6

    12
    1. I have a similar issue. Lycett looks like losing money and getting dropped quickly.

But the best trades seem to be.

TU) 2 Corrective trades bringing in a Quality Ruck and Bonner, via Finlayson dpp.

TD) Hope to hell in English/Frampton and use one trade.

      4

  12. How did Fyfe look, any concerns?

To get in Bonner I could do

Fyfe and Coffield out and Parker and Bonner in?

    Thoughts

    1

    40
    1. Put the mouse down step away from the trade button go outside have a breather its round 1 and you are thinking of trading out fyfe. YOU ARE THINKING OF TRADING FYFE! say that a few times out loud

      23

      1
  13. No trades for me this week however i’ll give Naughton and Hibberd another week. if they both spud it up again will get sic dog and boner in. did not like Hibberd’s new role at all.

    8

    1
    1. Hibberd will be ok. From the sounds of it the cats gameplan was to make sure hibberd and the other running backs for the dees were accountable for a man at all times so didnt have the freedom to break free and provide their usual drive from half back.
Naughton wasnt the only dog with his colours lowered, like freo it was an allround poor team effort and that was reflected in the SC scores.

      8

      1
  14. Zerrett to Parker
    Krooozer to NicNat

Will wait of course to see the impact of injuries, but I think with 2 concussions in 3 weeks Zerret won’t be risked in Perth and could have lingering affects. Had Parker in until the last minute but changed to Oliver. Minimal loss there but I feel vindicated bringing Parker back in.

Can’t have a ruckman without powerful groins! NicNat is an injury risk, but gee 113 from 55% game time! wowee! His minutes will only increase. Plus he plays nobody next week.

    9

    7
  15. After agonising over the ruck situation for weeks I finally settled on Ryder at R2 and Cox at F5 for cover. I’ll now have to spend another week sorting that out again probably with 2 trades ๐Ÿ™

    8

    3
  16. Update hit reverse button no trades first week. Side note do we think Angus Brashaw will recover from his knocks and still be worthwhile ? Picked him last minute without checking the teams ๐Ÿ™ Cheers

    4

    3
  17. Overall happy with my team. Bonner, graham and sicily did well as mid price gambles and I’ll give hibberd and fyfe another chance.
Im not sure about my lycett at R2 move though. Was hoping he’d average 80-90 and earn enough for me to swap him to ryder after rd10. With ryder probably out for an extended period and lycett scoring 33 it doesnt look like it will play out like I was hoping.
    Cant decide whether to
TU: hold lycett for another week or 2 and see if he gets some form
TD: cut my losses and burn a trade and the 200k cash I saved for Danger and bring in NicNat
or comment: a left field move of lycett down to english. Ive only got 5 onfield rookies atm so can afford one more if English has JS

    9

    6
    1. Tossing up exact same drama.

Waiting to see teams for Frampton/English.

Might be forced into NicNat trade though.

      2

      2
  18. Okay, Libba has gotta go.

Here’s what I am thinking. Via DPP switch Darcy Fogarty from Fwds to Mids.
Then I can bring in either:

    T/up: Billings

    T/dwn: Curnow

It will even give me a midfield loop hole if Fogarty gets dropped. It also saves me some money if I go Curnow.

    15

  19. If O’Connor plays well this week I’ll be looking to go Clark to O’Connor and Naughton to Bonnar next week (pending Clark/Naughton/Bonnar round 2 scores). Leaves me with about $54k.

    T/U – Sounds like a plan, Stan
    T/D – Don’t be ridiculous

    4

    3
  20. For the first time in my SuperCoach career, I don’t feel the need to make any trades after round 1 ๐Ÿ˜€

There are a few players I might take a look at after round 2 (e.g. if Tim English backs up his round 1 performance, then I would like to find a way to bring him in, and Aaron Naughton is on notice after that debut), but for the time being, everything is fine.

    4

    0
  21. What people who are thinking about bringing in Nic Nat as a Ryder/Kreuzer replacement need to keep in mind is that this move is likely to end up costing them not one but two trades โ€“ Naitanui will score well as long as his body holds up, but he has missed 44 games in the last 5 years. Even if you take out 2017, that’s still 22 in 4 years, or 5.5 games a year.

    8

    2
  22. Poll of peopleโ€™s view of trading after just one round. The poll may have a slight bias.

TU: Donโ€™t trade anyone who is not injured and is selected for Rd2 no matter how badly they spudded it up it up in Rd1. The stain will come out in the wash and you will need those trades later

TD: Trade early due to rage or chasing last rounds points in the belief that a players form in Rd1 in indicative of their performance for the entire season

Comment: 2 corrective trades after Rd2 is the way to go

    12

    1
    1. There’s nothing wrong with 2 corrective trades after round 2, so long as they are genuinely corrective, but rage trading is never a good idea.

      3

      0
  23. team solid but thinking of making 3 corrective trades – one would have to be this week (think ill go for it if ryder out). ive got two options
tu – kreuzer to nicnat, cole to bonner, olango to english?
td – LDU to fogarty (geel), cole to bonner, olango to english?

would have to do this first trade in both situations this week for it to work.

id appreciate your thoughts on english’s js

    5

  24. thoughts on this in comparison to other trades above?

kreuzer to goldy (or any other ruckman below his price)
    cole to bonner

i like only making 2 correction trades far better.
if kreuzer is injured i think i will do this for rd 2 with no R3 to cover injury

    1

    3
  25. Alright the dust has settled a bit after my 2 1st Qtr injuries.

Locked and loaded is Libba to a POD in Kade Simpson via Finlayson to Mids who will go on the Field vs the hapless Pies.

I just thought rather than pay Top Dollar for Danger and get a Mid pricer with my Bank i would bring in 2 POD keepers and still have the cash for Naughton to Bonner if Naughton flops again.

Now if Merrett is not named he is going with his ongoing risk over the year. Doubt the Bombers will fly him to Perth so i will know early and will not have to wait for a late out.

Either of these 2 trades i am polling will still allow me to get Bonner for D5 if needed.

    T – U Oliver

    T – D Parker

    6

    7
    1. Heard the same on Talking Footy โ€“ apparently this ‘three concussions in 2 months’ thing is a myth. He has suffered head knocks in that time, but only the one concussion.

      3

      0
  26. okay so my thoughts after rd 1:

2 early trades than wont trade for a while:
kreuzer to goldy (or any ruckman under that price)
    cole to bonner

tu – only if kreuzer is injured
td – do it either way. team is better and will make more cash to upgrade later on in season
