Trade Talk – Rd2

Written by Huttabito on May 25 2020

With a whole new set of fixtures, who is catching your eye? Gawn against CAR, ESS, GEE, SYD? Danger with 3 games at GMHBA against HAW, CARL and GC where his recent averages tip in at over 135?

    1. I’m personally holding Dunkley, but given we essentially have two trades a week, trading him for an early bolter (Neale, Viney, etc) may be worth it.

    2. Struggling with this one myself. Usually don’t like trading out premos especially after just 1 game. That will be his worst game this year but with the new draws the temptation to sideways to Dangerfield is very tempting.

  1. In these times radical moves may just be the right way to go!

Gawn < Naismith gives me $445k approx

    T/U … Good Catta

T/D … ISO has sent you crazy Catta

    Cheers

      1. Early thoughts, Chillo

        But tinkering atm

Fwd Rookie Davis > Long ( Stk )
Mid Rookie > Heeney in the mids for more flexibility Chillo

    1. if you were going to not start gawn then good option, but not one round in after gawn had a not so great game. And Naismith’s average will level out to around 90 with sinclair in the team as well

  2. Wow….we get 5 trades….
Do I stick with Bont and Dunkley or trade one for Danger…

    1. Thanks everyone for your input. I just realised my question was ambiguous. What I meant was:
T/U Yes, I stick with Bont and Dunkley
T/D No, I trade One for Danger

I hope that is how you voted but if not please feel free to vote again and clear it up for me. Cheers M.

      1. Callum, mate all 3 performed poorly in rd1 so I think I can wait until after rd2 before deciding which way to go. Cheers and good luck with your decision….M

  3. Two biggest concerns are Brayshaw and roberton. Just a bad game or something to expect weekly?

    11

    1. Worth noting that Brayshaw did have his foot stood on in the last JLT game and had stitches in Rd1.

      16

      1. So you’re saying that the limited game time for R1 could be explained away and R2 could be a different story??

    2. I share your concerns GTY. I selected Robertson in the hope that he would not be playing a lockdown defender role, but unfortunately in round 1, it seemed like he was purely focussed on stopping his man, rather than getting the ball. If I can get any solid info that confirms that he will most likely be playing more of a lockdown role, I may look to move him on. Not exactly sure who comes in for him though? Brayshaw’s TOG was terrible. It seems like he wasn’t even resting in the forward line. Just rotating on and off the bench. If this becomes a trend I am worried, but hoping he may have been carrying a slight niggle or something. Keep in mind though, he did miss 2 crucial shots for goal. If he kicks those, he scores closer to 100. A lot of ifs though. These are 2 decisions that I’ll be thinking very carefully about mate. Good luck with the team! DR

    3. With Carlisle set to return in Round 2 Robertson’s role should change again from his Round 1 shutdown role to his favoured running and more of a loose man role , but with Long now being used in defence that could affect that a bit.

      6

      2
    4. Gday mate, it looks like roberton has been given the role we all hoped he wouldnt be given, not very SC friendly. Im going to hold Brayshaw until round 5, and if he isnt consistantly averaging 80+ he’s a gonna.

      Hope this helps

      3

      5
    5. Roberton has lost his key role that scores points – he’s a ditch for mine … if that stays the same

      3

  4. 5 trades really opens it up and gives scope for complete restructures. It’s going to take some planning and creativity to make the most of what the SC Gods have provided us with remembering that players prices change after round 2 this season, not round 3 like normal.

For me i see it like this:
    * Priority #1 – Make sure you’ve got the must have rookies. Almost impossible to figure out who they are at the moment but the next couple of weeks will require careful listening to the messages coming out of club land.
    * Priority #2 – Does the big break bring anyone into consideration that you liked but skipped for a March start? Doedee? Gawn? Are these players now someone i want in my team and if so how do i orchestrate getting them in?
    * Priority #3 – Fix your dud round 1 choices on speculative mid pricers. Was Roberton a dud choice? What about Brayshaw? There’s a whole bunch of names that each time will have a few of.

I feel Excel might be getting a fair work over figuring this one out but there’s at least a few weeks of planning to do it.

  5. There are things that are difficult for us all as we traverse this thing called life. Things such as……

    Big brothers/sisters
    Acne
Being rejected for a dance at your first school social, and everyone notices.
Being “dacked” at the final school assembly
    First date
    First kiss
    First f…
Meeting your future mother in law
The same lady becoming your future mother in law
A father who barracks for Melbourne
A mother who barracks for Carlton or Collingwood

    And on it goes.

But, is there anything more difficult in the entire universe for us to address, than FIVE TRADES IN ONE ROUND ??

    1. Almost Wighty,

      5th trade……..Simpkin v GWS or Smith v Swans????????

  6. I think Gawn will probably dominate, but I’m still trading him out for Naismith so I can upgrade some rookies with now dodgy JS like Tom Greene and BZT. Also trading Dunkley to Viney because of the money differential even after this round. I will happily reverse the trade in 2 or 3 rounds if Viney isn’t getting tonnes (or bring Gawn back in once Baismith peaks)- he will make enough cash regardless. Its all about value now, plenty of trades to use so may as well go hard

    14

    11
    1. IMHO this will backfire. Trading out two of the best guns of last year after 1 week?? And with Gawn, who in your own words you said will dominate, you will trade him in the HOPE that you might have the cash later to get him back. If you use his downgrade funds to upgrade rookies, you will need Naismith to rise by some $400k to get Gawn back, without using other trades. Naismith aint no ROB.

      13

      17
      1. With prices changing after 2 games but the 3 game rolling average remaining Gawn and Dunkleys crappy rd 1 scores stay in the price cycle for 2 weeks. They could both drop by over 100k in a few short weeks, particularly Dunkley, and in the meantime my team is generating rather than losing cash. To state the obvious it is not an ordinary season, so normal rules don’t apply. With no reserves games rookies are unlikely to get a look in barring injury, so we need to look at less conventional ways to make money and maximise value.

I’m not concerned about the points differential either, the rookies I’m upgrading should make up for that, plus I get more secure JS in those positions.

Most of all this season presents an opportunity to have fun and take more risk than usual, hence my approach

  7. Anyone given any thought to the c loop ? I dont think I will be using 5 trades anyway, but one of them will be to bring in a GCS dud so I can loop Grundy every round still.

    2

    3
  8. Doedee seems like great value in the backline. Does anyone following the Adelaide Crows have information on him. That is, is he back and 100% fit after his minor injury setback?

    7

    0
    1. Doedee was interviewed last week and said he’s ready to go, obviously he doesn’t make the final call though.

      12

    1. Just keep in mind, B Smith was injured in Q2 and spent all of Q3 off the ground. Howe killed it bcoz the dogs kept bombing the ball in the 50 and he kept intercepting.
Howe is definitely going to raise in value so he offers more value. But I am sticking with Smith, I have more pressing problems with my rookies JS to worry about sideway trades at this point.

      7

      4
      1. Sound advice here, Howe won’t get too many better opponents to intercept against, that being said he had genuine excuses for his performance last season so safe to say he’s underpriced & one of the better kicks in that back line.

        4

        4
    2. hold brodie i reckon. I’ve got him in atm, and howe isn’t going to score 160 every round. If Smith isn’t avergaing 80-90+ by round 5 he’s a gonna for me

  10. Sicily is one I wouldn’t suggest trading, had enough of the ball just uncharacteristically used it awfully,
I also wouldn’t move heaven & earth to bring Neale in who went well over his career disposal efficiency & had 6 more tackles (10) than his average for the last 4 years (3.8), Tom Mitchell another that had a different type of game to what we’ve known from him in the past, high disposal efficiency, higher than usual contested rate, considerably less chip kicking.

Dunkley has me very concerned i must admit though.

    9

    3
    1. i think it is to early do trade Dunkley. He plays Saints, GWS, Swans and North in the next 4 weeks so don’t be surprised if he bounces back and averages 115 after these games

      3

      7
      1. When he played inside mid he relied on his volume of possessions & tackles to cover his poor disposal efficiency I wonder how much the shorter quarters hurt him & players like him

        5

        0
  11. I need to get rid of one Dog for money to balance my team and replace the likes of BZT, Cummings, Green etc.. and avoid a doughnut now that Sturt is injured. I cannot decide.

    TU Drop Macrae
    TD Drop Dunkley

Comment keep both. (I have Cripps, L.Neale and Viney as the other Mids)

    3

    27
    1. Just remember Lachie Hunter is missing rounds 2 through 5 due to his club suspension. Surely that increases Dunkley’s midfield minutes and scoring potential. Surely.

For me Viney isn’t a top 10 mid and won’t earn enough $$$ to justify having him. That said though he’s in your side so you’d be crazy to get rid of him now as he’ll make you some coin at least over the next few rounds.

Personally, i’d be keeping the premos. Tinker with your rookies or mid pricers but i don’t see a need to tinker with the premos you’ve listed.

      12

      3
      1. I get your point RB. with 16 rounds, it makes sense not to touch the existing premos it just feels like there is so much mid priced value around for the dollar, I am probably just getting sucked in by the 5 trades and a fear of missing out

        7

        0
      2. Might Not be many rookies left for round 2.

Finding it difficult to find money generation from the rookies this year.

Brander BZT Guthrie Green Sturt Georgiades could not start Round 2

        7

        0
    2. and if you have traded viney in after his 190 then you are a sheep. The amount he goes up will not justify wasting a trade when you upgrade him again in 5-10 rounds time when he is averaging >90

      5

      21
  12. Those who are considering downgrading a Mid premo to Viney, are simply calculating whether the extra $$$ gained enables them to shed an onfield rookie or 2.

    21

    3
  13. Things I generally ponder:

    Mathematics; It takes statistics to make money;

    Statistics; It takes a name to justify value;

    Name; It takes a crystal ball to validate worth;

    Crystal Ball; We use to validate our logic;

Logic; We adapt this format and use mathematics…………

    4

    3
    1. For what its worth jo, I watched the dons/freo game and Parish closely as I have him at f4 after whit, dusty, D Smith. He was on 50 odd at half time and for some reason didn’t get near it after half time. I suspect a strategic move or injury affected his second half.

      1

      2
  14. Is Naismith worth trading in @ R3 for the cash generation?

    Trade would likely be
    Roberton – B.Williams
    Comben – Naismith R3

    11

    7
  15. Full premo would be hard for most as there won’t be enough cows to generate the cash for upgrades this season . The season will be also too short with many other variables.
We probably need All Saints or FD to come up with some new cash making or points alternative theories. Or anyone who has a creative idea with numbers to back it up.

    6

    1. They are both legends Jeannot, but I think that might be asking a bit too much this year sadly.

      3
  16. Got JLT fever and stared D. MacPherson…any chance he’ll receive more mid time with the new format or should I trading out for someone like Ben Long?

    3

    1
    1. Ben LONG has a foot issue. Good question, but plenty of time to consider. MacPherson will always pump out the odd poor score but he should be playing MID. It’s what the coach thinks that matters tho’. I’d be inclined to stick with him now. Am likely holding Andrew Brayshaw despite his poor score, though the circumstances are different.

      2

      7
    2. i was 100% starting McPherson until the thursday morning of the season opener, then gut feel changed and he was out

      0

      4
  17. Bit concerned about Bewley’s role heading into rd 2
Looking at his heatmap from rd 1 he played off half-back and onto the wing racking up heaps of uncontested marks.
Then we look at the guys coming in for Freo: Acres (wing), Wilson (rebounding defender), and potentially Hill (half-back/wing just like Bewley).
I reckon Freo would want the ball in the hands of these guys over someone who has played under 10 games.
    Thoughts?

    14

    3
  18. what are peoples thoughts on Bont? Trade him or Dunkley this round for Danger, or wait till next round, give them both one more chance and hope Danger doesn’t go huge against the Hawks?

    TU Trade one now
    TD one more chance

    if trade, who out?

    9

    9
  19. Ok Already sideways trade Dunkley to Mitchell. Keeping Bont.

Next, which is the best combo.

    TU Whitfield F1 / Viney M5
    TD GreenwoodD2 / Neale M1

    7

    8
  20. TU. MIDS Kelly’s Tich Bont Cogs Viney
    FWD Whitfield Dusty Brayshaw Smith

    Or

TD MIDS Neale Jelly Tich Bont Cogs
    FWD Dusty Greenwood Brayshaw Smith

    10

    9
  21. I’m starting to think r2 might be a Hail Mary moment for us all, with many rookie’s positions unsafe and not a lot on the horizon to replace them.
So, with 5 trades this round, and the likelihood that any mistakes can be rectified and still have trades left at finals time, I’m thinking Bennell, S Hill are low risk selections this round, even if not picked, as long as I have 22 starters. Sturt comes in, even if not selected, to use that trade now rather than in a round that might have other priorities.
Thoughts ?? Seems to be a lot of chat about trading premos like Bont/Dunks, but I still reckon getting the lower end right is more important at this stage of the season.

    5

    5
  22. Anyone else in this predicament – what to do?

    -15k in the bank
-Gawn and Dunkley in my team
-3 Rookies on every line on field.
    -I’m Stuffed.

Edit: Further to this, my mid premos are Titchell, J.Kelly, Cripps, Oliver

    2

    3
    1. Who would have thought that having Gawn and Dunkley = “I’m stuffed” 🙂
Chin up Alex, 1 bad game from these guys is not a tradeable offence.
      Keep Gawn & Dunkley.
Trade to make sure you have the right rookies (slim pickings) to make money or with JS.

      7

      0
      1. Good comett Baz, can see Gawn going 130+ next 4 rds against very average opponents. Didnt start him but planning to bring him in 2-3 rds with a diabolical plan. Dont ask.

        7

        0
      2. A lot of ppl took dunks because of his early run of soft home games ay
        me included
no one would have taken him @ 650+ with the run he’s got now
        burned

    2. You sound like you have the exact same team as me Alex except I also have Neale (6 premium mids)

      5

      0
      1. See you at the bottom Trav haha.

I most def. don’t wanna trade these two, but they are $$$ in the bank. I think trying to field and bring in the playing rookies will be the #1 plan, I don’t think the Viney or Naismith trade will help at all long-term.

        3

        0
    3. Alex A, I wouldn’t touch my team if I was you. All you have to do is getting enough playing rookies and cheapies to fit your structure and generate cash.
Yes, there are many players scoring crazy numbers but for how long? besides it is only one round.
I believe that in the end, the top 6-10 per position will remain the usual suspects. Remember it is a 17 games marathon, and there was a reason you picked them in the first place. Only get rid of one premo if you desperately need cash to adjust.

      3

      2
    4. Alex…Gawn was one of the highest traded out players r1 last year…that went well for those that traded him…..not. He scored 93 rd 1 on one leg, and has a nice draw for the next 4 rds. Trade him at your peril.
Re Dunks……every doggie stunk it up. I’d be backing a big bounce back v saints.

      3

      2
    5. ALex, having Gawn in your team is never a problem. Was up against Nic Nat round one on a dodgy leg. By now you would have seen the next 4 match ups. HOLD GAWN.

Dunkley is a concern, round one was not sighted in first half., Bevo strikes again . To me sideway trade Neale/Titch., definitely top 8 MIDS. I would prefer not to take viney , but I reckon his ownership round 2 will be high and you may need to take. If Viney is over 60% owner ship Thursday afternoon he moves into my team at M5.

Defense rookies are the main concern for Round Two.

      Good Luck.

  25. Think I have finally sorted it out, but suspect the SC gods will have the final say. I’m usually against trading out premos, but this is no usual season, and like most of us, I have to do something down back.

    So…

Out: McAsey BZT Bont Parish Cavarra
In: Stewart S Hill McInerney Heeney Sturt

Hill comes in now as with the five trades, its no point holding back, even if he’s not chosen this week…Brander still on bench with Hill. Same with Sturt, even if also not selected.

    Leaves $135.8k

    1

    4
        1. By that stage, you will be hoping that COVID kicks in again and stops the season again!! – looking forward to it!!

          0

          4
    1. I’d be/am taking in all second gamers for at least some extra MITB and trading out the most likely to loose money along with non selections.
Yes, hold if have Sturt eg and not selected, but beware the Buddy disease.

      2

      1
  26. Any thoughts on the following 5 trades, guys?I’m assuming Sturt is not named due to injury…

    OUT —> IN:
    Cumming —> Howe
    BZT —> O’Connor (SYD)
    Dunkley —> Viney
    Brayshaw (FRE) —> Wingard
    Schulz —> Long

After these changes the full team would look like this:

DEF: Laird, Houston, Howe, Docherty, Noble, Brander – Starcevich, O’Connor

MID: Macrae, Neale, J. Kelly, Cripps, Viney, Rowell, Pickett, T. Brown – Green, McInerney, Mahony

    RUCK: Grundy, Gawn – Conroy

FWD: Whitfield, Wingard, D. Smith, Long, Davis (ADE), Taylor – M. King, Budarick

    T/D: Yeah
    T/D: Nah

    9

    3
  27. My teams current (today’s) trades out: BZT, Roberton, Green, Dunkley and Brayshaw,
and ins are: Pet-Set, Howe, Viney, McInerney and Smith.

My Step-son-in-law says G’day JimmyDee, and his trades are; BZT, Weller, Zorko, Green and Jones, for; Docherty, Rowell, Viney, McInerney and Smith.

  28. Umm, have I been banished to the public.
All my leagues are now public comps.
    Anyone have words of encouragement?

    2

    1
  29. Let’s see if I can hold my nerve to make these trades.

Gawn -> Naismith (plan is to trade back in 2-3 weeks with Naismith @ 400k+ & Gawn @ 550-600k
Dunkley -> Neale (will get dunks back when in form & a bit cheaper)
    Sicily -> Howe
    Cavarra -> B Long

    Thoughts?

    TU – Good plan
TD – Over thought R1 form

    0

    15
    1. Great plan unless Gawn averages 140 against his next four oppts after a 93 on one leg, Callum Sinclair gets picked given absence of Buddy and probably Reid, Dunks fails again v Saints, Howe repeats his one in ten year performance and Sicily spuds up his disposals again.
      Cavarra to Long looks good.

      1

      4
  30. T/U Walters
    T/D Heeney

I’m worried about Heeney if he stays an almost permanent fwd…wont get a free run like he did r1.

    1. likely to play this weekend. best years avg 85. so likey 450k max which is 150k cash increase. not likely to be a keeper. more inclined to go doedee or pay for dbj who could breakout and avg 95+. however if you are short of cash nothing wrong with birch as a stepping stone to a fallen def prem later in the year.

    1. Hi Bill I’m new here but know a little bit about SC..here’s what I’d do.
      B. Smith to Doedee, makes ya 207k, probably end up averaging around the same.
Roberton to Howe or someone better, wouldn’t trade out a premo for Neale now, target him later after he gets tagged and or drops a low score or 2.
Petracca did a ton, could be his breakout year and he could match Heeney and go close to Dusty, that’s best case scenario but I’d still give him a chance to show ya something.
You have a very good fwd line I reckon…If you want to use anymore than 2 trades then replace the rookies who get dropped this week.
      Good luck mate.

  34. Tom Green to Sturt swinging Budarick to the mids opening up the DPP link looks a must trade.

BZT might need to go to a Stephen Hill or you could trade Houston to Howe to facilitate a BZT to a Doedee. Otherwise you have a well balanced team.

Bont to a Neale or Danger is worth thought as well with Bont set to have match ups/tags from Steele in Round 2 and De-Boer in Round 3.

  35. Anxiously awaiting teams over the next few days but here’s my current trade thoughts.

Ballsy move is Macrae out to free up cash the cash to fund team improvements.

    Macrae –> Viney
    Brayshaw (Freo) –> Wingard
    Z Guthrie –> Howe
    BZT –> S Hill
Cavarra or M King –> Rankine

Up to five trades sounds great til you actually try and do it and it’s hard, real hard.

  36. Ok, going back to look at my side. Here’s what it looks like at the moment.

DEF – Laird, Crisp, Docherty, Noble, BZT, Brander (Strarcevich, Gould)
MID – Macrae, J. Kelly, Cripps, Bontempelli, Yeo, Rowell, Green, Pickett (Budarick, Brown, Robertson)
    RUC – Grundy, Jacobs (Conroy)
FWD – D. Martin, Greene, MacPherson, Brayshaw, Smith, Georgiades (King, Taylor)

Scored just under 2150. Not too bad for a Rd. 1 , but could’ve been much better.

There are a few concerns at the moment for me, which are Crisp, Yeo, MacPherson, Brayshaw. I could put Tom Green in there too, but he’s only a first year, so that was kinda half expected of a half of them to score around 50 on the first round.
The one I’d probably feel safest with sticking with atm in Yeo, because he’ll be playing Gold Coast this weekend. The other three though, not so sure. But I know it’s probably not the best to trade out all three straight after Rd. 1.
There were some players I was looking at, like Howe, Heeney, Doodee, Wingard. As well as some cheaper players like Sturt, Cameron, McInerney, Rivers and even Bennell (But we know how risky that is).

Which players do you think I should trade out/trade in?

    1. McPherson to Long frees up some cash to make a few tweaks elsewhere. Neither is a keeper and Long should generate more cash.

  37. Goodmorning Gentleman,

A quick early morning trade idea to kick off the restart.

    I have:
    BZT > Sturt (Brander DPP)
    Roberton > Doedee

I then have the funds to facilitate a ABrayshaw > Wingard/Rozee type.

    Your thoughts on the trades?

  38. Looking at a Houston > Doedee cash grab but have Laird, is having Laird and Doedee a concern position wise?

    Up: No dramas
Down: Yeah nah you don’t want that
