whats going on w laird
Don’t trade him out yet, remember he’s a very capable scorer and it’s only early days.
Had Whitfield all preseason at D2 only to get cold feet a week out and pick Laird instead.
Laird was basically non-existent in Q1 this game (had something like 2SC points at QT), so his 84 is essentially from 3 quarters of footy. I think Milera and Smith (Milera especially) are taking a lot of his cheap possessions. He’s still almost guaranteed to be a top 6 defender for the season, so I’m not overly fussed.
Seedsman’s injury may improve Laird’s output as well
He’ll be in my team come two weeks or so.
no need to trade this week , except for those doing corrective trades to fix their corrective trades 😉
if bailey scott , tom atkins & micheal gibbons are all dropped this week , that’ll throw the cat in amongst the pigeons
Obvious targets for me are Jake Lloyd and Lachie Neale, nervous that Neale in particular could get priced out of reach.
Having said that, I’m not going to cash in rookies early to chase them at the expense of necessary cash generation, and I don’t have any underperforming mid-pricers or premos to get rid of.
Thinking I’ll target fallen premos first. Looking at Sicily and Laird first. Both of them to drop in price significantly, but both have still been scoring ok really. Trust that they’ll bounce back to big scores soon…
Can anyone give me any forwards to think about?
Boak
Kelly and Boak are still priced well, but should increase quickly (Boak especially, after 3 big games). Dahl and Worpel are also good looking cheaper options.
beware of worpel , he’s only played 9 or 10 games , he will tire after the byes so you’ll need another trade to upgrade him then & he’ll only probably go up another 60 – 120 k @ best , has DP & good JS if that’s what you need right now though
Worpel almost guaranteed top 10 fwd. Keeper for 420k sounds pretty good.
not a keeper , will run out of steam
See this ‘he’s only played a few games’ excuse thrown around a lot, but it doesn’t make that much sense imo. Kid is a massive talent, he’s been given a huge chunk of Titch’s minutes, meaning permanent mid time, and he’s already hit 110 twice in a dozen games. Clarry Oliver avged 110 in his second season after only playing 20 odd games. Not saying Worpel will hit the same heights, but just think it’s a silly argument to make. He’ll be top 10 come end of season no worries.
ok , trade him in , see what he’s scoring in R15 onwards , as a 20+ yr hawks member i hope im wrong
its a fair point you make max , he will score very well over the season as a whole , all i am saying is that when he gets to the latter end of the season , the kid will be pretty sore & tired re his current work load , i just recon his scoring may drop back to the 80’s then & that is when you don’t want to be dropping a trade which i think ppl will have to do to stay competitive , depends on what you want out of your fantasy team also , i,m 400 pts behind the leader & not in a cash league this year so my priorities might be different to yours , if your chasing league wins then your priority is this week only
What’s your top 10 forwards?
Atm i’d have Danger, Kelly, Boak, Menegola, Heeney, Gray, Daniel, Dahlhaus, Gunston, Walters (if fit) and Dev Smith all above Worpel based on scoring history.
Worpel’s scoring looks way too much like his last 5 H&A games last year when he averaged 88. That’s not top 10 forward scoring.
He may be at Eleven but he started at 300 grand or so if you started with him with which I wish I had congrats.
It’s not a silly point at all. Not saying it can’t happen but Oliver is a freak.
When you think about young breakouts Clarry Oliver is ALWAYS the EXCEPTION not the rule.
Not a forward, but if you’re still looking at fallen backline premiums by then, get Crisp around round 7 (give or take a week). That’s generally when his scoring explodes every year.
Caleb Daniel. $451K, and has gone 104, 120, 96 over the last 3 weeks. Assuming Mr Magnets lets him keep his current role (which is admittedly an if), there’s no reason why that scoring shouldn’t continue.
I think I’ve seen Daniel taking kick ins… with Johannisen coming back soon could that affect his role?
I’ll be nervously watching Fyfe and Kelly this week… hoping they both make speedy recoveries
Kelly should be ok with a long break until the next game, Fyfe however has a short 6 day break.
Wouldn’t be surprised if he got up this week or missed 2 , Lyon loves us fantasy players , probably get him cheaper soon , doubtful he’ll play better after that hit
Dunkley to boak
It’s a tricky one because with less mid responsibility Dunkley’s scoring has gone down but he’s one injury or Beverage whim away from going back to the scoring of last season, I don’t think an average of 85 at the moment is killing you.
Need Martin out
T/u Boak
T/d Kelly
Comment Dalhouse or Martin Gold Coast
I really, really want to get Whitfield in. Unfortunately, nobody has made enough to upgrade yet, and nobody in my team is begging to be traded out – I’ve dodged all the major bullets there. Laird is underperforming, but not that badly.
Hmm… maybe Whitfield will just have to wait a week or two? I’ll have a think over the next few days.
Whitfield is also looking to be my first upgrade. Although it looks like we’ll be paying top dollar for him.
That’s a big part of why I want to get him sooner rather than later.
he wont cost u much more if u wait
However much his price will go up, your rookies will go up more. Atvface value, manufacturing a way to get him in now feels like ypu’re saving money, but can almost guarantee the reality would be the opposite.
Thoughts on Rowan Marshall?
Job security is the only question mark.
21 yo , recruited from sandringham 3 yrs ago as a fwd , has had a roll change into the ruck , still listed as a fwd in fantasy
Think his role is more of a risk than his JS. Has a huge tank on him, but may lose the RUC minutes if and when Longer is back (one-two weeks).
It’s too big a risk in my book. I’d wait and go for definite premos instead unfortunately.
Cheap scores well.
He’s been pretty good obviously, however I have heard that Billy Longer played last weekend and racked up 52 hitouts or something along those lines, so if he comes back in, you have to question Marshalls’ job security
Is it worth trading Atkins/Gibbons/Scott to Wagner (Melb)? Scored two mid-60’s so far, and looks much better out there than the aforementioned.
Or wait for Stack to be on the bubble? Stack was incredible on Thursday night.
You could always do both. 😉
I think I’ll only bring him in if one of those players is dropped this week. Cash generation is important, but trades are just as vital
Should I trade Balta out before he drops in value? 🙂
TU: Yes
TD: No
Traded out Mills, he scored 115……traded in Fyfe he gets knocked out (and I had the ‘C’ on him). This week I could be missing all of Dusty Fyfe and Rocky from my midfield. I’m done and have rage deleted the app, bring on 2020
Trading Mills out is a good move though, he won’t average 90 #thinklongterm
Maybe you trade too muck
Rage delete the app now that’s hardcore bro. Love it.
Haven’t made any trades yet.
Scored 2300 this week. All rookies have low BE & will continue to make $.
Would like to bring Neale & Whitfield in before theyre prices get too high.
Have the $ to go Oliver to Neale
&
Hurn to Whitfield
TU
Go for it while you can!
TD
Leave it as is & save the trades!
I like Hurn to Whitfield, but I’d suggest keeping Oliver, regardless of how much you may want Neale.
Hurn is averaging 102, how can you trade him out?
I’m not convinced he’s a top def, to be honest. Last year was his first premium season for years, and in that time, he’s had streaks like his current one before.
Why would you trade Hurn? Current average of 102
Given my circumstances mentioned above and the fact I only have 26 trades left, thumbs up trade Dusty to Matt Crouch, thumbs down hold Dusty
Hey Pete – what have your 4 other trades been? Have you managed to increase the number of potential keepers at all, or gotten the full suite of classy rookies?
Don’t wanna run the team for you or anything, but it’s a good idea to assume you need about 2.5 trades per upgrade (ie. 3 downgrades gives you the funds for 2 quality upgrades). So if you started with 30 trades and 13 keepers, bringing in the other 9 keepers is probably going to require 22-23 trades.
If you’re going to be dropping down to 25 trades already, and you haven’t banked money or increased the number of keepers in your side, I reckon you’re gonna be in a tough spot come the back half of the season unless you get a blessed run with injury.
If that’s the case, I’d maybe consider some value-based breakout contenders like Sheed, Libba or Brad Crouch (in that order), or even an underpriced DPP like Dahlhaus who looks likely to be a top 8 forward for a good price.
If you do a trade like that, while you aren’t increasing the number of keepers, you’re effectively getting an extra downgrade worth of cash in the bank without actually cashing in a rookie.
That makes a lot of sense BB. Is that allowed? 😀
Brodie Smith/Zac Butters(have constable and Walsh on field) out.
Sydney Stack(decent js?) /Lachie Whitfield in.
Can rest a while now. Have all the big guns. Lloyd, Whitfield, macrae, cripps, Neale, Gawn, Grundy, danger and rocky.
Rocky big gun?
Lol, i thought it was funny. But I meant I have all the expensive guys and don’t need triple trades for anyone.
I remember dochertys big year. I went early on him this very round. Almost everyone else who didn’t kept saying he’ll drop and they will pick him up then but he never did.
If you think a player is going uber premium grab them now, not just because of dollars but injuries and suspensions as well sometimes force you to pass them up longer than you would like.
Lol surely keep Butters – he’s worth another 150k at least.
Libba, Sheed or Dahlhaus?
Rocky looked really unwell and can’t afford to hold all of him, Fyfe and TK.
The stars really aligned to teach us “never again” folk to really stick to the never again rule with a concussion of all things.
Dunkley, hmm.. touches just aren’t there. And he was out of the midfield today (admittedly I listened to this game on the radio rather than watched it).
Billings on the other hand.. has been everywhere!
TU: Hold Dunkley
TD: Trade to Billings
Neither. Trade him to someone properly good, like Tim Kelly.
Tim Kelly is a jet, his three quarters are better than most players four.
Thanks to the SCT site pre season one coach advised that Billings and Dunkley would score around the same with Billings being cheaper.
Took that advice so big thanks SCT coaches.
Am sure Dunkley will be there in the back end of season
Will Darling come good?
T/u Yes… hold him at F3
T/d No… bring in TK or Boak
This is my biggest concern too.
Have TKelly. Can’t afford Boak.
Would need to trade to Walters / Gresham / Daniel / Worpel?
Hey SCT’ers
Trading out Jack Reiwolt & Gibbons for Bcrouch & Dalhouse
TU – Go for it
TD – Look for a premo and a rook
Cheers for any input
Looks like a rollercoaster premo and a rookie for two mid range premos. Solid trade, can’t really fault it.
Started 100k overall after round 1 but back to 65k now. Used 2 trades last week to get Roozee and UDL. Shouldn’t be trading for at least 4-5 weeks now after these.
Bring Brad Crouch in for Martin?
TU yes
TF no
If Kelly and Fyfe both get up this week which is likely, then I shan’t need to trade for the 3rd week in a row.
Fyfe’s KO was pretty bad. I would be surprised if he plays with a 6 day break.
I’m new to SC, so bare with me if this seems silly.
I clearly hold him right? I mean, what if he’s not okay for the rd4 or rd5 and I have 2 weeks worth of scores with substitute players instead of Fyfe?
what to do with my F3 dunkley?
i do not like his job role now
TU: HOLD
TD: TRADE
Dunkley’s average after Rd3 last year was 82. His average for the remainder of the year was 97.6.
Your call but I’m holding. Same as with Heeney last week, Steele this week and EVERY OTHER PLAYER I started as an intended keeper.
As I TRIED to articulate last week:
Those players who have underperformed to date > the best is likely yet to come, and
Those players who have overperformed to date > the worst is likely yet to come.
I’d be looking at it the other way round. Of those I DON’T have, when am I gonna bring them in, if indeed I am?!
eg. Coniglio, Kelly, Yeo, Jelwood, Laird etc.
Completely see where you’re coming from, but the concern is his role. Last year before the byes he played as a perma half forward type and his avg was putrid. The only reason his avg inflated to 95 was because he got a full time inside mid role after the byes. This year he’s reverted back to that half forward role. That says to me that he’s gonna continue scoring 80s until he gets that inside mid role back. Which isn’t gonna happen unless one of Wallis, Bont or Libba gets a LTI. I’m getting rid of him while he still has some value.
Fair call Max. And it does make me nervous. I wonder how long Libba can sustain it having not played much footy in the last few years?
Yeah it’s a good question. He’s lost none of his skill and hunger for the contest, but he obviously won’t keep up this hot streak. I reckon he finishes with a 95/100 season avg, which is a great return for a bloke who started at 300k. The big unknown is whether he stays healthy all season.
TU
Setterfield TO Rozee
TD
Save the trade.
Unhappy with setters scoring…
got him on field & only other option is petrucelle…
Sicily to Whitfield
Yeah or nah?
Looking at doing steele to libba. Was hoping steele might average another 5-10 points over last year and be a leap up to a premo but seems he will still be around that 100 avg.
Should i go steele to libba?
I have long pushed the SC rule 101 about not sideways trading, and think the Heeney’s, Rocky’s, Westhoffs/Grundy’s and Gawn’s etc have again proven that theory. Heeney to Rocky would have been very popular R3.
However, there is always an exception, and Dusty, you are it. Do the right thing and get suspended so I have no choice but to drop you to the never again list.
In place
T/U Libba and pocket $140k
T/D The likes of Gaff/ Bont/Beams etc…cant get Neale cause of $
I know Libba has risen $79k but his b/e is still -52
Dunkley letting me down, thinking Dunkley to kelly? Or Dunkley to rozee and use the cash to get rid of gibbons for liberatore?
T/U Dunkley to Kelly
T/D Dunkley to Rozee & Gibbons to Libba
fair chance libba will go down @ some point , you’ll need to allow for a 2nd trade just in case if you bring him in
If Fyfe misses next week
TU: Fyfe > Neale
TD: Hold
Made a mistake by taking Laird over Lloyd & feel like i need to correct this before Laird loses too much cash & can’t afford Lloyd.
Used 2 trades so far only.
I know they will still make some more cash, but Scott & Gibbons my 2 poorest performers so far out of all rookies MID’s
T/U – Scott -> Stack & Laird -> Lloyd (have 34k in bank)
T/D – Gibbons -> Stack & Laird -> Lloyd (have 13k in bank)
Comment: Hold trades & keep Laird
Doesn’t matter how much cash Laird loses if you reckon he’ll be a top 6 defender come the end of the year. He’s in the same company as Lloyd and Whitfield when he’s on, and even a below average Laird is around par with Crisp, Hurn, Old Man Simpson, Howe etc.
Lloyd is an upgrade target if you didn’t start him, but don’t go sideways trading another premo to him unless that player is injured and out for a month.
Is it worth trading out Dunkley if it means I’m bringing in Libba? Dunks is playing mid, but looks like Libba is taking point away from him and making money. Tough one. Should’ve started with him…
TU: do it
TD: don’t be greedy
Hey
I started both and took the view that they are one aggregated player, given that they were likely to ‘share’ points. I see dumping Dunks for Libba as a risk. If Libba gets injured, Dunks is likely to be the key benefactor.
I’d hold Dunks and try and find another way to get Libba if you can.
If you’re set on dumping Dunks, I’d consider Sheed as the alternative target. Less combined risk. Looks the real deal.
Thinking of trading out Coniglio, because I’m not really happy with his output, for Matt Crouch or Bontempelli.
T/U: trade him
T/D: hold him
Here’s how this works.
You trade Cogs to Crouch. You’re now on par with everyone who started Crouch instead of Cogs, but you’re down a trade on them.
Then they trade Cogs into their sides in a month when he bottoms out, and he goes on to average 110 for the rest of the season.
You then use a second trade to bring him in. Not when he bottoms out (because he burnt you and you’re not convinced he’s worth it), but after he bounces back for a couple of weeks and gets back close to his starting price, you either need to trade him back in or fall behind everyone else.
Just hold him mate. He’s quality, he works hard to win the ball and he does a mountain of work defensively. He’ll come good.
Now that’s some advice to hang your hat on. Never a truer words spoken.
Not to mention he’s currently averaging 102..
Have Setterfield, Parker, Drew all on my field.
Have 160k in bank.
T/U Balta —> Rozee
T/D Save trade
Surely there’s a better option.
That trade costs you $140k. That means Rozee has to get to $400k just for you to get your money back. And given you’re going to make another trade to flip him later on, you want him getting north of $500k to justify the second trade.
Rotham, Hore and Joyce have all played one game apiece, and scored in the reasonable 50-70 range. There’s a decent chance one of them plays a second game, then gets named for a third, somewhere in the next 2-4 weeks. In that time, Balta maybe scores a 50+ game himself and makes another $20k.
Downgrading Balta to Rotham and making $30k, then having Rotham make $150k, is a net gain of $180k for two trades. Rozee has to get to $570k for you to get the same result.
Hore and Joyce got dropped after one game, so they won’t be going up in value anytime soon. Hore didn’t even get picked and Melbourne’s DEF has been decimated.
Rozee is averaging 89 and has the second lowest BE of any DEF/FWD rookie this week. I’m very happy with the rest of my team. Balta already has a positive breakeven.
Would rather fork out for JS and ceiling than save $$ in the hope I choose the right rookie to field/they hold their place.
There’s no rush. Forking out $140k for a player you’re going to have to trade out again later is madness. Balta isn’t losing money yet, and one decent score will see 3 weeks of price increases. And there will be downgrade options that present themselves. If Rozee scores 90s every week from here (doubtful), he tops out in the mid $400s around the bye weeks. That has you $50k up in money made, but two trades down. Decent chance Balta makes $50 in the next 4 weeks, and you can cash him in, along with your $160k bank, for an early upgrade. Whatever points you think you gain by having Rozee over anothe rookie, you make back and then some by having an extra premo a month earlier than you would otherwise.
It sucks missing out on a juicy rookie, but jumping on them at $250k after round 3 isn’t the answer. I don’t have Rozee either, and I’m just telling myself to suck it up and focus on the next option.
You sir, speak a lot of sense. This is the 2nd post I’ve read so far from you and both have been spot on. Keep up the good work mate!
But Rozee is going to score much better than Setterfield so he’s getter 20 -40 points a week more immediately. Rotham not a lock to be playing come the byes.
Looking for some advice.
I didn’t see Carlton’s game but did Setterfield tag again?
My strategy is to trade in Mumford after round 4 and push Lycett to F5
Rookies on the chopping block are
Gibbons, Setterfield & Petrucelle
(Drew, Parker Atkins are the others I have)
With the money in the bank gibbons won’t get me there after round 4. Damn!
Petrucelle will after Rd 4
Setterfield will get me there now and doesn’t look like his price will rise much after Rd 4
TU: go for glory, Setterfield will tag so trade him this week and get Mummy points.
TD: hold another week
Comments and feedback appreciated
I haven’t used a trade yet and like my team as a whole ranked about 3000. However Darling is concerning me a bit but I can’t afford to upgrade him to Kelly or Boak
So should I
T/U: Just keep him he’ll come good
T/D: Trade him for someone like Dahlhaus, Daniel or Worpel
Anyone trading Balta out and if so for who?
He’ll be the first to go as soon as a decent forward ruck turns up, until then he stays.
Im sitting 254th overall, and still have 30 trades.
Im considering :
T/u: b.smith -> rozee (banking 140k)
T/d: b.smith -> rozee (banking 140k)
and
Gibbons -> stack a week early to give me 2 potential upgrade trades next week
How much have you got banked? Because going a week early on Stack so you’ve got an extra trade for a double upgrade next week doesn’t work with only $140k or thereabouts.
Gibbons BE is 0. He’s not dropping money. Worst case scenario he doesn’t play, and he doesn’t make any money either. But given he wasn’t on-field, the lost points don’t matter at all. Waiting a week gives you another look at Stack, and means you can make sure he’s actually named for his third game before picking him.
Gibbons to Stack is probably going to be my first trade of the season, but it’s not gonna be this week. How often do you find yourself $5-10k short of your preferred upgrade target later in the season? Always seems to happen to me. So eking another $10-15k out of Gibbons looks to be the sensible move.
Appreciate the detailed reply 🙂
Im leaning toward waiting for stack, it does seem smarter.
Also have the option of dunkly to rozee instead of smith, which will bank more cash but will leave my fwd line prwtty shallow. So ill go and weigh up the merits of each trade.
Tu: Smith -> rozee
Td: Dunkly -> rozee
Dear god no.
Dunkley will bounce back. He’s a keeper.
Smith to Rozee is one that’s caught my eye in this thread, and it’s growing on me. Smith isn’t having quite the impact as most would have expected, and looks like topping out around the low $400s. Rozee may reach the same price, and allows you to bank $100k now.
Given Smith is a stepping stone mid-pricer, his job was always to make money while scoring OK, then get traded. So if Rozee scores similarly and reaches the same price, there’s an argument to use a trade to bank $100k and call it a day.
It’s not a “great” return, but it’s not awful either.
The problem is that if Smith rips out a 110+ (his last score of 2018 was 129, and he had four scores in the 100-130 range in 2017), and Rozee dishes up a 50 (small forward, they always fluctuate) then it’s possible that the money you make on the initial trade just gets lost in the cash growth differential between them.
Food for thought. Leaning towards it being too big a risk for too little reward, but there might be more to it.
Yes fair call on dunkly, i put him there for a reason, ill stick him out longer.
Smith im leaning towards cashing out to rozee but its definately a thinker. I think even if he hits a 110+ and rozee a lower score, that the cash in the bank might be a bit more valuable to me for where i want my yeam to be. Might just be being greedy haha.
Ill pull up the numbers tonight and see if it helps me make a decision!
Either way the decision i make will burn me im sure lol
Appreciate spitballing with you blueballs 🙂
No worries. Chatting to other people about their potential trades is a great way to get some personal insight on what you can do yourself without the emotion of it being your own team.
You raise a good point – that sometimes a “questionable” trade can be beneficial if it enables another trade that represents extreme value. For me though, unless you’re doing that second trade in the same week, or at the latest the following week, having money sitting in the bank “just in case” isn’t always a good thing. The thing to remember is that money in the bank doesn’t appreciate or depreciate – whereas investing that money in a player generates either more cash through price increases, or more points.
Dunkley isn’t a keeper with his current role. This season he’s been 6th in line in the Dogs pecking order behind Bont, Macrae, Hunter, Libba and Wallis. As a result his scoring has suffered. And will continue to suffer unless he gets his inside mid role back, which isn’t likely at all if all those blokes stay healthy. Better off turfing him while he’s still worth something I reckon.
There is no value in a trade to Rozee .. from any player … the horse has bolted… it is a wasted trade and poor return on your outlay…
See the comments from Blueballs above .. it makes a great deal of sense.. apply it.
Brodie Smith For Rozee, get the extra 100k and the boost from Rozee low BE. Thoughts?

HOOOOOOOLD!!!
The big question to ask yourselves this week – “Do I HAVE to trade this player?”
I’m not gonna lie, I’ve been tempted to hit the trade button. After all, isn’t that what Supercoach is about? Making trades to improve your team and increase your scoring? Well yes, it is, but you must remember that you only get 30 trades for the season. Across 23 rounds.
As tempting as it is to start getting in on that sweet sweet trading action, the more often you can avoid making uneccessary trades the more trades you’ll have available later in the season when your rookies are at full value, and there are a dozen fallen premos to choose from every week. Seriously, go back to some of last years mid-season Fallen Premium articles and have a look. They’re choc-a-block full of quality players who had a poor week or two through injury or form, and dropped $100k in the blink of an eye.
You don’t need to have the best team now. You need to have a team that keeps you within cooee of the top 1000, and is making money so you can pounce on the value picks week after week after week through rounds 6-14. And you then need to leave yourself with enough trades that if someone gets injured in round 19, you’re not stuck with them for the rest of the season.
Yes, there are exceptions. Dusty looks shit, and not only shit, he looks like he’s not focused or interested. But Gawn and Grundy after round 1? Heeney after the first couple of rounds? People rushed to trade those players out for Lycett, Westhoff, Rockliff etc. off the back of one or two big scores, and now they’re left wondering why they didn’t listen to the 30+ folks on SCT who suggested they trust their pre-season judgement.
Early season – trade if you must, or if a rookie is on the bubble and simply too good to pass up (even then, you want to give it a good bit of thought). If you don’t need to, let everyone else fall behind in the remaining trade tally while they chase last week’s points.
Hey BlueBalls
Never a truer piece written. Maybe copy and paste it in TradeTalk every week!?!
Cheers. It’s the hardest part of the game, for mine – knowing when that trade you’re thinking about is just action for the sake of action, not for the long term benefit of your side.
I’m coming off a year where I had to use 5 trades in the first 4 weeks due to LTIs, so being in a position where I don’t have to trade anyone I’m really trying to stay disciplined. Confident it’ll pay off in the long term. Yeah, Gawn and Grundy where a bit disappointing in the first round, Heeney in the first two, they all bounced back. Laird has been underwhelming, but I’m confident he’ll do the same. Trading him out just means I’m two trades down when I inevitably trade him back in later.
On the rookies – they only need one big score. I’ll hold Gibbons, Atkins, Setterfield, Burgess etc. until they become a liability, then they’re gone. All it takes is one week where they kick 2-3 goals and their total cash growth doubles.
Totally. I’ve only used one. Have avoided mayhem by holding tight on the same players as you. Gonna hold Steele, Dunkley and BSmith for now too. Am sure Smith will pump a big one out soon and his scoring is better than any rookie I don’t currently have. Steele and Dunkley can be expensive M9 and F7 worst-case, but we know how they both went back half of last year!
Worst MID-rookie may go down to Stack next week if he posts 60+ and is named in Rd5.
It’s a long season. 🙂
Spot on BlueBalls!
Well explained good advice BlueBalls. I have Dunkley and Laird underperforming and was contemplating trading them to Lloyd and Kelly. I have only $5.3k so the trades will involve 2 rookie downgrades. Also wish I’d started with Neale and Macrae. I haven’t used any trades yet and am so glad I resisted the temptation to trade out Gawn, Grundy, Oliver and Heeney. Lesson learnt.
To soon to talk about Rich?
Round 23 would be too soon. 😛
I went Greene to Rich last week after thinking long and hard about it (previously been burnt and the big fear of tagging). But as a lions supporter watching the games the new 6-6-6 rule really benefits his game plus makes a forward tag even less likely (zorko will get the first tag regardless) so for now its been good. Will wait and see though haha
Held Heeney and Dusty last week, but Dusty has to go this week! I know it’ll cost me $80k more than it would’ve last week but Dusty to Neale before he’s priced out of reach…
TU: Do it!
TD: Look for more $ saving option.
Comment: Hold. (Joking, he’s gone either way!)
If you’re gonna sideways a premo, do it to a cheaper option so at least you come out ahead.
Sheed and bank $70k for your first upgrade. Neale’s price will skyrocket over the next two weeks while this 170 is in his rolling average, but unless he goes stupidly big again, he’ll then come back down to something more reasonable. Good chance he gets some more attention soon to and drops in a 90, which will see his price fall nicely into the “affordable expensive” range.
Already had Sheed from the start, and having watched all 3 feel Dusty to Neale is an upgrade opposed to a sideways…
And at $650k right now, even with an average 10-15 lower than his current I consider him affordably expensive. Been wrong before tho…
I agree with downgrade. I’m likely to go dusty to libba and with my bank, setterfield to daulhaus. That gives me a huge boost in scoring! I’m confident in both players.
Best Trade option for Dusty?
Thinking either Libba or Sheed to come out with some cash in the bank, thoughts on this?
Any other options would be great. Already have Neale, Macrae, Cripps and M.Crouch. $546,000 in the bank.
Nobody should be trading libba in. He will need to be traded eventually
Based on what?
Libba is currently the #10 MID … scoring consistently and is #1 for points per minuted scored.. . outside of the rookies he is also the # 1 in $ per point.. he is actually the best value player in the comp at this point in time …
Why
Anyone able to explain why supercoach says that I have 10/10 league wins when I clearly don’t?
Am I miss reading something?
In the site on the afl home tab with your current ranking, points etc. It says your league wins in a circle same as my score etc.
It’s saying 10 from 10. And I didn’t win all my match ups.
Same problem that I’m seeing.
does anyone believe beams will be back to his best or are his days done? He’s getting his hands on the footy but never seems to use it well.
Sort of thinking that i downgrade him to someone like sheed and bank the 100k it saves me and sheed looks like the better scorer anyway.
TU- good idea
TD- back beams in
Still have 30 trades left and about 130k in the bank.
Brodie Smith –> Rozee
T/U Yes, bank Smith’s cash and get in Rozee for his -46 BE
T/D No way, save the trade.
Copy/Paste from an earlier comment:
Risk is too great. If you can’t resist that trade button then Jay Lockhart at $102k would be a better money making prospect and allow you to bank more now to grab an early fallen premium.
Seems like there’s something there. Only need 1 more big game from Rozee to go straight to Fallen Prem after banking on Smith.
Still leaning towards not doing it, but making me think.
Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
Trading in a rookie because if he pumps out another 100+ score before he dishes up a 50 he’ll make a bunch of money just seems to be recipe for disaster.
Little SC trick – whatever you think a player will make in cash growth, consider what it means to you if that growth is reduced by 33%. If Rozee makes $200k, that’s great, you can go straight to a premo. What if he stalls and only makes $130k? Then it’s literally a trade gone for nothing. If you can live with that, go for it, but always always consider it first.
Plan as though shit may go wrong, because if you’re wrong the downside is that you have more money to spend 😛
Being a rookie Rozee May get rested at some stage. Crows have Kangas, Suns and Saints next 3 as well
Hey guys i’m a bit stuck up here
Atm I’ve traded Parker > Rozee just because Parker has a pretty bad role and isn’t going to score much and go up in price that much like Rozee.
Buttttt I am a bit curious in whether we trade Newman or hold
In the case we can trade I can get Whitfield for him
Should I trade Newman > Whitfield or hold Newman?
Cheers guys 🙂
Ryan – Maccas Foopy ~ Rank 2053 @ Rnd 3
Hang on – Parker from St Kilda? The same Parker who scored 87 and 89 in the first two rounds? The one with a break even of -26? The one who is projected to make another $175k (conservatively we’ll call it $140k)? The one who is priced $65k lower than Rozee?
Hit that reverse trade button, Ryan. Hit it now.
@BlueBalls forgot to edit the post but I meant Setterfield > Rozee, then I put Parker on bench for Rozee. IMO Setterfield isn’t really looking good for me and has a higher BE of 17 than Rozee and Rozee should get much more points than him and gain way more cash than him as well.
Setterfield scoring 50s will top out around $255k, meaning another $80k of growth.
Rozee scoring 90s will top out around $450k, meaning another $200k of growth.
The trade costs you $75k now.
The trade maybe makes you $120k later.
You’re up $45k.
IF. Rozee scores 90s playing as a HFF, and Setterfield scores 50s playing as a midfielder.
Basically – best case scenario you make a little bit of cash and perhaps 300 points between now and the byes.
I think it’s more likely that Setterfield averages closer to 60, and Rozee closer to 75. That scenario has you losing a trade and money, for a gain of 100 points between now and the byes.
I don’t like it, but it’s your call.
Cheers, but I’ll keep the trade and btw Hold or Trade Newman to Whitfield?
Over the net fortnight Newman’s gonna drop a bit, Whitfield will climb a bit. You’re either doing the trade now, or waiting 4-6 weeks to see if Newman can make some more cash and Whitfield might come back down.
Scenario 1: The dollar gap between them closes and you can get a better deal later.
Scenario 2: The dollar gap between them stays around the same, and the trade is effectively the same no matter when you do it.
Scenario 3: The gap between them gets bigger and you end up paying more later.
Two out of three scenarios dictate you do the trade now. And the one that doesn’t is probably the least likely, and the most greedy, for minimal savings.
If you’ve got the money, I reckon pull the trigger.
Trading Yeo to a Sheed or Libba looks tasty but not sure if it’s worth it.
T/U: Trade
T/D: Hold
HOLD.
Coming off an injury niggle in preseason and will work his way into the season. An awesome player when fully fit and firing. I will be considering him in a few weeks time when he has some game time under his belt.
Not worth it now … should have made that trade last week… it was $126k cheaper … Yeo minus $47k, Libba plus $79k..
Yeo is improving …. so best to hold …
I’m a touch bitter that I don’t have Whitfield or Neale, that said I’ve got all the good rookies (barring Rozee), no injuries and no Dusty or Fyfe either.
I should just be saving all my trades till it’s time to put the cash cows out to pasture, yeah?
Am I missing anything?
I’m in the same (gun)boat, except I have Neale. No Whitfield or Macrae though.
Going to be holding all trades yet again this week, although next week I will probably pull the trigger on a Scott/Atkins/Gibbons for Stack, if he has another good game is named for his 3rd.
S.Higgins a MID POD to consider?
Westhoff.
I knew he was at max price but I was willing to pay it for the ruck coverage while still expecting a 90+ average. There’s also ‘don’t trade your premiums’ which we’ve seen with the likes of Heeney.
However, a 47 and a 39 are just plain unacceptable and he’s due to drop another $50K after this week even if he does tonne up.
TU – must trade, don’t look back
TD – hold, and hope for a turnaround
I’m in the same boat, he’s shown he’s capable of putting up big scores (rd 1 – 149), so am inclined to grit teeth and cop it.
if trading, Hore-Lockhart & Westhoff-Boak
TU – yes
TD – no
first half is a lock if hore not selected……second half…see sc rule 101 re sideways trades
Home game against Richmond minus Rance, Dusty, Riewoldt and possibly Cotchin.
Gut says trade him. But you just know he’s going to pull out a 180+ if you do 😛
Good luck whichever way you go with it.
It seems like only 1 of Hoff, Ryder and Lycett can go big in the same game.
Now watch all 3 go big this week
What do to with Andy Mcgrath?
TU – Hold
TD – Trade
Thoughts on Newman? Didn’t get a chance to watch the Carlton game, but his price at $417,000, BE of 96, and recent scores has me concerned, is it worth trading him out now to avoid losing money to bring in a genuine premium?
I have $145,000 banked so could bring in a Whitfield or similar (before I’m outpriced).
I’m sitting 22,400th so need some movers to get up those rankings. I do have a lot of rookies set to make money over the next month and a half, so am conscious of trades I’m using now. I don’t want to shortchange myself later (again).
T/U for outing Newman for Whitfield (or someone else, open to suggestions/waiting for Whitfield to level out and price come down more appropriately)
T/D hold Newman/hope he steadies off
I am in the same boat but atm I don’t see Newman averaging over at least 100
If I were you I would trade
Newman isn’t going to gain much price either
What are your thoughts on going to Rich instead, waiting for Whitfield to plateau down the track?
Newman should still average 90+, which is fine for anywhere from D4-6, especially at his price. I’d be holding if I had him. Still, if you want to get Whitfield in, then that’s one way of doing it. But getting Daniel Rich is a truly awful idea – outside of Shaun Higgins, I’m not sure there’s a bigger burn-man in SuperCoach.
Rocky……Fyfe…..
Haven’t used a trade yet this season (which is nice!) and sitting around 15k. Very happy with my rookies and premos, just missing Whitfield (upgrade target) and Neale at the moment.
Given Fyfe’s injury, Rozee’s earning capacity and Smith’s underwhelming scores I’m thinking about this trade:
Fyfe >- Neale
BSmith >- Rozee
TU Do it
TD Hold fire
Want to get Neale in and is Walsh worth it to get in. Could trade out Rocky or Crouch along with Sheed to get both in although I want to keep both.
Should I stick with Worpel or find someone else ?
DEF: Whitfield, B.Smith, D.Moore, J.Scrimshaw, J.Clark, X.Duursma (M.Hore, S.Collins)
MID: Cripps, Fyfe, Oliver, Coniglio, Sheed, Rockliff, B.Crouch (Atkins, B.Scott, Gibbons)
FWD: Dangerfield, Kelly, Heeney, Worpel, Setterfield, Drew (Petrucelle, M.Parker)
I’d say hold your trades for this week.
Hey guys,
Just been contemplating what to do with the fyfe situation. As it stands, it doesn’t look like he will be back this week and im considering trading to libba. My reasoning behind this is libba still has a -55 BE and is gonna continue to go up in price and is still providing premo scores, and further down the line I will have heaps of cash to make some upgrades. Also am not very keen on having to field scott. Would really appreciate some feedback on if this is too risky or I have better options.
Cheers guys!
Real problem this…I dont have fyfe and for whatever reason, its his lack of 20 games a season that means I have him on my never again list…much as I love him.
If you trade him now, and still think he will be top 5-6 mids, thats two trades.
I don’t want to field Scott and am going for overall. Thus…
Fyfe to Neale and Atkins to Stack
T/U or T/D
if you’re going for overall I think pull the trigger, Neale looks to be the number 1 mid in the comp and I don’t see him slowing down
Wait a week on stack…surely.
Doesnt the world change quickly for rookies. Scott loved by all rd1…now has the t button hovering over him.
TU-beams to Neale
TD- beams to Sheed bank the cash and save for an upgrade to Neale when he’s a little cheaper
I went TU, but I don’t think TD is a bad option. Just a bit more risky.
do you think Sheed can keep this up?
The Need for Sheed …. a good question … pondering whether to go Dusty down to Sheed or up to Neale … (already have Libba)
Ohhhh dear. After the carnage in sideways trades already….is this wise ? The horse has bolted on Neale I think.
Cant also not think of the holy FD and his offerings about reverting to averages.
I know its not wise but I picked beams on a whim and now I’m convinced he won’t even be a top 12 mid, whilst Sheed looks the goods and can bank 100k for future upgrades. Undecided but is beams really going to be that good?
Martin has to go. I hung in there for one more week but now is the time. Fingers crossed he gets suspended and then there is no doubt in my mind its time to send him far far away. Sitting nicely top 5,000 just and haven’t used a trade.
I can get any player under 525k for dusty and can move him to any player in MID FWD or DEF.
Currently thinking Worpel. Scored an 80 odd this week but had 18 Handballs and 8 kicks or something along those lines. Change that K to HB ratio and he tons up easy.
TU Worpel and bank a bit of coin (I’d be happy if Worpel from here on out is a Top 8 FWD any higher and that’s a bonus
TD Bit annoying but do people have any other thoughts for someone to go to Already have B.Crouch and Libba in Mids. B.Smith and Z.Williams down back and Billings and Moore in my FWDS
what about Dahlhaus?
Simpson to Whitfield
Dusty out!
TU: Merrett
TD: T.Kelly
Cheers guys
Traded in Rozee for Balta.
Scored over 2,400
29 left.
Only worry.
Setterfield, Parker, drew fwd (2 on ground)
Have s
Brodie Smith in backline with duusma, scrimshaw and clarke. (One is currently on bench).
The plan.
Trade smith to Lockhart putting clarke on ground in def, swing setters in mid and upgrade atkins via dpp to one of worpel, daniel, dahl, gresham or martin.
Result
Only have drew on ground, parker on bench (saints have a hard draw coming up).
Sets up fwd/mid DPP.
Thoughts?
Or am i robbing peter to pay paul.
Just think def rooks are going to score better than fwd from now on.
Don’t like it, personally. 2 trades to swap Brodie Smith for Worpel/Dahl/Daniel/Gresham/Martin feels super sideways.
And the concerns on the forward rookies – everyone’s in pretty much the same boat. Don’t think you lose much ground just playing Drew and Parker on-field and holding two trades for something more important later on.
Dusty has been given 2 weeks… let the trades begin
phew….a bona fide reason to trade.
Dusty gotta go
T/U The Bont
T/D. Oliver
Who have you got?
I’m running cogs, Sheed (started with him), b crouch and Neale. Can’t quite afford Cripps with a single trade
Oliver it is then I reckon.
Out
B.Smith
N.Fyfe
In
Whitfield
Liberatore
Exactly what i was planning to do, depending if Fyfe is named this week…
SuperCoach rookie here. I’m wondering if I should trade Brodie Smith to Travis Boak before Boak is too expensive. I can shift a DPP player to do this. Apart from getting terrible news on Fyfe, this would be my only trade this week.
Have K.Simpson,A.McGrath and Dusty to consider shipping out.
Setterfield and Drew stuck mid with Constable on bench.
Forward have Blakey, Burgess and Parker on field with Balta and Petrucelle on bench.
How to fix this clusterf** next to zero in the bank…
Anyone thoughts ?
Why are people trading out Brodie Smith?
Not happy with English
want to trade him asap
have 332k in bank
not enough to go from English 2 Grundy (have Gawn)
tu – English to Mumford
td – setterfield/drew to stack /wagner via drew dpp
and English to Grundy
I’ve gone creative and thinking
Out: Toby Green fwd
Out: Gibbons mid
In: Libba mid
In: Lockhart back
Sub: Burgess (back) to Fwd.
Burgess currently sub in backline and will mean fwd continues to be light on but if green misses again it’s too much wasted $$ when I can get Libba before he reaches $500k.
Flying Scotsman
Future 2019 Champion
So.. only made one trade so far. Parker in for Greene last week. Not sure if i should not trade this week or go Burgess to Rozee (TU) or Setterfield to Mumford (TD) via DPP with Lobb. Have 316k in bank…
Out
B.Smith
N.Fyfe (if not named this week)
In
Whitfield
Liberatore
Out:
N.Fyfe
In:
L.Neale
I also have B.Smith, he’s been under-performing a little, just hold onto him and hope he pushes 80-90? That’s about what I was hoping for.
Decided Dunkley has to go.
Thinking either T/U Kelly or T/D Dahl.
Favouring Dahl simply because of $$$.
Thoughts? Cheers
