Trade Talk Rd9 – PART TWO

Written by Schwarzwalder on May 15 2019

So many value players to choose from this week, it’s almost hard to remember which of the rookies to bring in.   Or have you got enough for a double upgrade?  Who is in? Who is coming out of your side?

  1. Morning coaches

Trying to decide on which way to go on this. Leaning towards Dunkley.

Fwd line currently: Danger, Kelly, Heeney, Billings, Lycett & Drew (Corbett, Bines)
Would run Dunkley in the mids until drew is offloaded. Giving me Neale, Cripps, Fyfe, Macrae, Oliver, cogs, dunkley, Constable

TU: this week butters & Walsh to Macrae & Dunkley

TD: butters to Macrae then wait for Boak’s price drop

Also targeting Lloyd & Hurn pre byes when they drop in price.

    Thanks

  5. Hey community,
First time posting hoping for some supercoach wisdom if anyone can help me out. Here is my team:

22 trades left 300.9K in the bank
DEF: lloyd, williams, stewart, hore, duursma, wilkie (clark, young)
MID: neale, cripps, fyfe, macrae, mcrouch, rockliff, constable, answerth (gibbons, hayes, scott)
    RUCK: gawn, grundy (sweet)
FWD: danger, heeney, daniel, marshall, drew, baker (setterfield, balta)

Any suggestions for this week? Thinking drew to t.kelly but his r14 bye isn’t ideal for my team. Cheers!

  6. duursma> stoker
    then-
T/u Walsh> bont (leaves 115k in kittty and constable and gibbons on field)
T/D Gibbons> sloane (leaves 8k in kitty and walsh and constable on field)

sloane trade gets me more of a points differential on field, but worried that sloane may fall off the cliff as he does sometimes….. also only having only 8k in kitty probably means i cant upgrade/downgrade next week as my rookies are dragging the chain on cash generation- thoughts would be appreciated!

    1. Ross could be used as a loophole this week to maximise onfield points and/or your VC/C options this week, if Bines is your current loop (he plays first up this week so can’t be used)! Might be worth holding a week or two while no decent downgrades?
Drew could achieve his BE this week at home to the Suns.
Tough fixture for Gibbons this week and is priced bang on his average …

      3

      4
      1. Cheers allsaints good point on Drew,

        – Burgess will be my loophole…
        – Don’t have Bines…
        – Now considering trading Ross and Gibbons for Macrae and named rookie (Stocker/ Hately)
        – I’ll hold Drew…

        Next, who to field…
        TU: Drew (against GC)
        TD: Baker (against Hawks)

  7. Hey supercoaches,

First season I have played and struggling at around 30k at the moment after a couple of below par weeks.

DEF: Whitfield, Lloyd, Williams, Smith, Moore, Duursma (Clark, Answerth)
MID: Neale, Cripps, Macrae, Oliver, Shiel, Steele, Walsh, Hayes (Atkins, Butters, Scott)
    RU: Grundy, Gawn (Bines)
FWD: Kelly, Danger, Marshall, Drew, Petrucelle, Setterfield (Parker,Burgess)

    23 trades left.
    $20k in the bank.

    Any advice much appreciated.
    Cheers all

    1. Not too bad so far for your first year, well done. Id be looking to downgrade say butters and upgrade one of those forward rookies asap

  8. Feel like now is the time to jump on Josh Kelly. Dont ask why I still have Gibbons, he needs to go clearly. My other bench rookies are all playing and have solid JS.

    TU – Out; Walsh & Gibbons – In; Kelly & Stocker/Hately

    TD – Save the trades

    13

    3
  9. My initial inclination is to go safe:

    TU
    Ross >> Hately/Stocker
    Walsh >> Macrae

But i’m finding the following very appealing and bye friendly:

    TD
    Walsh >> Rocky
    Moore >> Marshall

Someone knock some sense into me!

    9

    4
    1. Would be holding both Moore and Walsh till their byes.

Moore will make a bit more coin and Walsh will come back up to 450k~. Trading both out at their byes mean you can grab a premo coming off their respective bye, so Moore to Sicily or Ryan and Walsh to Neale or any other R12/13 MID you fancy.

Other issue is the unpredictability of Rocky and I don’t think Marshall will be a Top 6 FWD.

  10. I need to start upgrading and bringing in some premiums otherwise il get left behind.
So I am wanting to bring in Hurn and Boak into my team as soon as I can. I can only afford 1 of them this week.
But the problem iv got is they both have higher BE this week and ideally you would wait for price drop. But I don’t want to wait on them and trade someone else just for the sake of it as there’s no one else I’m completely confident will be top 6 In these lines that I don’t already have.

So I was thinking just bringing in Hurn this week and copping any price drop that might happen then downgrade upgrade next week for Boak.

    Is this the best plan?
Or is someone like Houli worth bringing in this week along with Boak to get 2 premiums in quick?

anyone think Houli will be top 6? or top 10?

    3

    0
      1. Cheers Nick,
think il just go Scrimshaw to Hurn this week and save the second trade and look to bring in Boak over the next few weeks.

  11. Current Premium mids
Cripps, Macrea, Oliver, Fyfe & MCrouch

    TU – JKelly
    TD – ZMerrett

    19

    17
  12. Jack Steele…

    T/U – Trade to a Uber premo that isn’t a tagger!! (Jelly/Fyfe)

    T/D – HOLD YOUR PREMOS

    10

    12
    1. I’m trading him to J. Kelly, Harley. Copping a lot of sh*t for it but it’s as if you’re making a luxury trade early and no one can tell me J. Kelly won’t smash Steele from here on out.

He is not a premo liked we’d hoped. We rolled the dice and came up short, cut your losses

      2

      0
    1. Not at all, scott can be used as a loophole in the time being. No point burning a trade for someone like Stocker who’s JS isn’t that great. Wait until the right downgrade option becomes available.

      5

      1
  13. TU C Daniel
    TD R Marshall

Take out rowans injury affected 50, his avg is 108.8. Is there any chance he might still lose his spot to Longer? I’m starting to doubt it. Thoughts?

  14. Hi all,

Option 1: FWD Drew into Dunkley (not sure about Dunkley against the Cats this week?)

Option 2: MID Drew into Gaff/Yeo (Setters swings forward into F6)

    TU: 1
    TD: 2

25 trades currently remaining. Am also considering Gibbons into Stocker for an extra 120k, could then go Drew into any Uber mid. Comments?

    6

    3
  15. Trade Out: Walsh, Atkins
Trade In: Macrae, Hately (if named in squad)

    TU = Good
    TD = Nah

    10

    1
  16. T/u: one trade of drew to daniel
T/d: two trades of Atkins to stocker and petruccelle to any fwd

    2

    12
  17. TU – Walsh to McCrae and Constable to Sloane. $10k in bank
TD – Atkins to McCrae and Gibbons to Hatley/Stocker. $145k – $165k in bank.

    3

    6
    1. I’d suggest one or the other in terms of option 1. Without knowing how many trades you’ve got left or your list, you’d be using 2 trades for either option. I’d be keeping either or and trying to head into the byes with one of them. If it were my team, I’d be holding Walsh (at least for another 2-3 rounds) and trading up Constable.

Can you afford a Walsh or Constable upgrade into either premo and a Gibbons into Hately/Stocker? Split the difference.

      0

      0
  18. Going Walsh to Macrae, and Petruccelle up to either Kelly or Dunkley. This will complete my forward line. Forward line premos currently consist of Danger, Heeney, Cameron, Daniel, and Menegola. (I’m screwed for the Rd13 bye though).

    TU: Dunkley
    TD: T. Kelly

  19. Hi all.
Currently 24 trades remain. $279k in the bank.
My midfield consists of Neale, Cripps, Oliver, M Crouch, Coniglio, Walsh, Answerth, Gibbons / Hayes, Atkins and Ross.
T/U single trade Ross to Dunkley.
T/D two trades, Ross and Atkins/Gibbons to Stocker and Macrae.
The Dunkley trade also opens up mid/fwd swing.
    Cheers.

  21. 26 trades left and still running with too many onfield rookies, and below par premiums. Looking at a corrective trade & an upgrade this week
    TU – OUT – Cogs & Walsh – IN – Macrae & Dunkley
TD – Hold Cogs, Walsh to Macrae & 2nd trade Atkins/Gibbons to Stocker or Hately if named

    1. I look at teams like this and wonder why i am ranked in top 100. To me this team seems better than mine. I’m truely confused

  24. Hi all,

Ranked mid 100’s and have 23 trades and 330k I in the bank. Currently running Walsh, Constable and Stack at M6-M8 with Atkins, Hayes and Scott on the bench. Is it a crazy idea to upgrade Atkins>Rocky and Walsh>Bont which allows me to move Stack to the bench.

TU: Not such a crazy a idea
    TD: Reasses

    16

    5
  25. TU – Walsh & Brayshaw to Fyfe and McCrae. $66k remaining. Parker remains on field.

TD – Parker & Atkins to Daniel and Stocker or Hatley. $227k or $248k remaining.

    4

    5
    1. Possibly consider downgrading another rookie and upgrading Constable?? Depends on trades left I guess. I can’t see any gain I’m downgrading stack at the moment.

        1. Can’t pass up Macrae this week so getting rid of Libba and one of Constable or Stack to get in Macrae and Hately. Loophole Hately while he’s not playing and great cash to make when he gets on the field

          0

          0
  26. If M Crouch is out injured this round, considering trading him out for Macrae

TU: A sideways trade but still worth it, Crouch has been ordinary apart from round 1
TD: Hold Crouch, he should come good eventually

Have 26 trades before this week, so happy to use one on a corrective trade to try and move up the rankings. It’s been all downhill lately.

    4

    14
  27. do we just have too hold brayshaw and hope he comes strong or pull the trigger on him up too a trusted premo?

    TU: move him on
    TD: hold tight
feel free to comment as well as a TU/TD

    🙂

  28. Thinking Duursma -> Boak & Steele -> J. Kelly.

Duursma’s peaked, had enough of Steele and I’d be getting two premos IN. Only consequence is I’d have to field Answerth for the time being.

    Sound good?

  29. Hi Guys I am really struggling to make a decision here:

TU- Walsh to J.Kelly & Drew or parker to Dunkley
TD- Walsh to Neale & Scrimshaw to Hurn

    Thanks!

  30. TEAM:
DEF: Hurn, Williams, Smith, Moore, Hore, Collins (Clark, Answerth)
MID: Neale, Macrae, Cripps, Oliver, Coniglio, Walsh, Duursma, Consatable (Atkins, Hayes, Scott)
    RUC: Grundy, Gawn (ROB)
FWD: Danger, Heeney, Dunkley, Kelly, Drew, Setterfield (Corbett, Parker)

    Trades: 25
    Cash: $307,100

    Initial thoughts:
    Atkins > Stocker/Hately
    Parker > Fyfe/Boak
would leave me with around 90k in bank..

TU: Pull the trigger on these trades (as Fyfe/Boak are must haves)
TD: Get in a POD (Merret, Sloane, Mundy, Cameron) type

Ranked reasonably high and want to continue that and my biggest worry is it isn’t the MOST unique team. Josh Dunkley being my least selected premo at 9.4%.. am i overreacting or will a POD really give me an extra edge.

    5

    0
    1. Only pursue a POD if you’re confident that they can equal or beat other commonly selected premos. J. Kelly looking like one at the moment.

As for your team, it looks solid. Would go ahead with the first set of trades.

      1

      0
      1. I disagree with @Gunboat. A POD is exactly what it means. A ‘point of difference’. Selecting a POD based on ‘the possibility of meeting or beating’ a common selection is null and void. It is what it is. A risk. That’s the whole idea. If you think your selected POD will make a ‘point of difference’ in your leagues or H2H, pull the trigger.

I wouldn’t be calling Merret or Sloane PODs either. Gaff, JPK, Yeo….Yes. Not suggesting these as trades, but??

  33. Hey fellas

TU – Walsh to Sloane, Moore to Dunkley. 10k remaining/17 trades left. Leaves me with only 3 playing rookies on the field (Hore, Duurs, ROB).

TD – Chill out and save your trades. Trade Walsh/Moore during the bye rounds.

First year playing and ranked in the top 5k.. just not sure how fast to make moves. Only looking to win a cash league.
    Cheers legends

IN FYFE AND SETTERS … THUMBS DOWN

    Or Lockhart and Macrae

  35. Two scenarios this week to consider – 1 up/1 down, or double down. Bit concerned about lack of downgrade options on the horizon, but available bubble options don’t fill me with confidence…

    TU: Ross>Stocker and Walsh>Oliver
TD: Ross> Stocker and Parker>Ham (build $ for upgrades next week)

    5

    0
  36. TU/ Walsh & Gryan Miers > Rockliff & Dunkley (5 rooks left on field / Fwd line complete without Boak)

TD/ Willem Drew via DPP to Tom Stewart

    Comment / Walsh & Drew > Dunkley & Johanissen

    1

    2
  37. pettrucelle up to…
t/u: boak (could probably wait a week)
t/d: dunkley + $50,000 (would wanna bring him in this week)

  38. Hey guys currently ranked 100 but feel I’m going abit heavy on the trade with only 21 left do I keep trading if it’s making my team better or start to hold seeing there is no real priorities other than getting the likes of drew/Walsh of my field

    3

    0
    1. Always want to make your team Premo as quickly as possibly but also the most efficient way where you are buying low selling high etc. As long as you keep a few trades in the bank for injuries down the track then you’ll be fine. If you’re trading sideways/midpricers then you’d be worried but at 100 keep being aggressive yet ensure you’re decisions are well thought through and measured.

      0

  39. Should I get in Sloane, J Kelly or McCrae. Sloane looks tempting, only ave 6 less than McCrae, higher ceiling, lower BE

    What do you think?

    1

    2
  40. Do I bring in Sicily or Boak this week? Both have highish breakevens but no too worried about that little extra cash.

    T/D – stupid

    7

  43. Anyone else considering D.Joyce from STK for a possible downgrade in DEF? A BE of -54 is very tempting along with players like Duursma and Rozee coming to the top of their cash cycle. Thoughts??

  46. Trade Atkins to Stocker?

T/up – Yes make some cash

T/down – Save the trade (will have 24 if I save)

Angus Brayshaw > Josh P. Kennedy

T/D: Matthew Parker > Dylan Moore (assuming picked)

    1. With 25 trades left now, could also go:
Constable into Dunkley and M.Crouch into Sloane. It’s a sideways, but I figure I can afford at least 1 luxury trade?

I’ve still got Walsh and Duursma as onfield downgrades for next week and Gibbons and Drew on the pine.

  54. C.Wilkie OUT

    IN:

    T/U: Laird
    T/D: Luke Ryan

Struggling with this call. Laird I think has a better bye as he has the last one and I can pick up some guys who have already had their bye to cover my outs that round. However I only have 7 out Round 12 so could do with Luke Ryan sitting out that week and then have him cover the next two rounds. Let me know your thoughts!

    3

    2
    1. Dusty.

I would be a little hesitant to trade in Ryan this round.

Conner Blakely is back. I would wait to see what his role is, and whether it affects Ryans scoring.

Laird is a proven Premo at a discounted price. The Crows also have a pretty favourable draw this year. This week, I would be going Laird for sure.

If you do want a R12 Bye Premo defender, I would be looking at Sicily.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

      3

      1. Cheers FT. Sounds crazy but I was also considering Blakely but will give him some time to get back into things. Thanks for the tip. Laird is locked and loaded.

        1. Good stuff Dusty.

I would be considering Laird myself but I have three R14 Bye players already . Whitfield, Williams and Smith.

I plan on turning Smith into laird some time post Byes.

Right now I have bigger fish to fry.

          Best of luck this week.

  55. Can anyone explain why Brayshaw and Liberatore are scoring below par? Does this look to be permanent, or is it possible that they both hit back?

    1

    0
    1. I think Libba has been pushed out of the midfield mainly due to size and his lack of pace. He is a real goer, but can be out muscled by the bigger bodies, and doesn’t have the pace to get enough ball on the outside. He may get another run in there, but I wouldn’t be holding my breath. Dunkley and Hunter seem to be getting those Mid minutes at the moment. If you have the money to turn him into Macrea, I would do it in a heart beat.

Gus Brayshaw is different story. It looks like he too has been forced out of the midfield in the last few weeks. Replaced by Melksham.

It seems Goody is trying something different and he was the scapegoat. With Melksham going down, I would be hoping he gets back into the guts.
Gus was awesome in the back half of last year, finishing 3rd in the Brownlow. I think he may get his midfield spot back this week, and could dig his way out of the hole he has found himself in.

I think he is worth holding for now.

      1. Cheers. I had a feeling Dunkley was pushing out Libba, and Harmes/Melksham were pushing out Brayshaw. I’m very tempted to go Brayshaw-Rockliff this week though, tough decision!

    1. Well thats just fricken great.

Finally Whitfield gets a game, and M Crouch goes missing.

Looks like I am destined to spend another week with a Premo on the bench.

The SC Gods do test ones mettle at times.

  57. Now I have M Crouch, Cogs, Constable & Scott all other playing in my midfield. Will be replacing one of them for Macrae, 26 trades in hand.
    TU- M crouch out
    TD – coniglio out
Other trade will be either Gibbons or Atkins (or maybe constable so I have bench cover) for Hately (if named) or Stocker or Rowbottom.

    1. 24 Trades left and no MID bench (so I’ll trade Constable even though he has money to make)
      TU: Constable – Sloane/Kelly
      TD: Constable+Brayshaw – Sloane/Kelly+Rockliff

    2. Can you go Constable and Atkins for one up/one down?! Might be a better option. You’d think Crouch will be back next week and Cogs might be.
You’d think if Hately is named he can be your insurance policy for Cogs, if he doesn’t get up next week?!

  58. Hi All, with Crouch out and me going for a high ranking

  59. Trading Walsh to J Kelly. For this to happen I need to trade Atkins out. Who is the best rookie to bring in?

  60. T/U Atkins/Constable to Stocker, Brayshaw to Macrae
T/D Constable/Atkins to Stocker, Walsh to Macrae

Undecided about Brayshaw, because of feeling he might explode soon because Oliver ay starts getting attention and undecided about holding him.
Also, Constable still has plenty of cash to make so it’s him or Atkins.
    Comments would be appreciated too.

  61. Help please’
Crouch is out and with his form being excellent and his scoring average as well as the chance of missing next week as well ( it is a slight tear after all) he is now on the table!
    Which way do i go
Jelly- flying start as miller is not playing, but still prone to niggles
Macrae- will never be cheaper but already have dunks and bont
Thumbs up or down , please make up my mind for me.

    1. Crouch was averaging 107pts before he was injured last game, he has only dropped below 100 3 times so far this season and of those 3 games he has not dropped below 90.
I wouldn’t call that scoring average!
I would be holding onto him, unless he is the only issue your team has.

  63. DEF – Lloyd, Laird, Williams, Crisp, Hore, Duursma (Lockhart, Answerth)
MID – Neale, Cripps, Macrae, Oliver, M. Crouch, Walsh, Constable, Stack (Atkins, Hayes, Scott)
RUC – Gawn, Goldstein (O’ Brien)
FWD – Dunkley, Dangerfield, Heeney, Moore, Drew, Baker (Setterfield, Bines)

    Salary cap rem. – $200,700
    Trades left – 21

I originally was thinking to make one trade, which was to upgrade Moore to a premo forward.

Now with Crouch (and maybe Drew) not playing, I’m not sure what I should do.
I don’t really want to make too many trades, because I’ve made too many trades as it is. But the only player on my mids bench who’s playing is Hayes, and I don’t think I will do well with his score. Also, my teams in the upcoming round have a lot of players out in the last two bye rounds, and not much at all from the first (let’s be honest though, it’s just coincidence that all the teams not playing in the first round, don’t have much good players to offer as the teams in the other two). So I don’t know if I should switch Crouch to a player from those teams (like Fyfe or Merrett), and wait it out with Moore for another week and trade someone else like Drew.

I’m not sure really what I should do. So I’m open for any suggestions

  64. Gee not a great week is it.

    I’ve settled on:
    – M Crouch OUT
    – Macrae IN
    – Dunkley In

Just need to decide if Scrimshaw, Petrucelle, Atkins or Walsh makes way for Dunkley.
    Any suggestions?

  66. Would like to bring in Hately and Macrae. Unfortunately, have both M Crouch and Coniglio on the bench this week.

    Trade out options are:
    TU Duursma + Walsh
    TD Duursma + Libba
    Comment Walsh + Libba

    Cheers!

  67. 24 trades remaining now. 166k in the bank. Cogs has gone into Macrae. M. Crouch as loophole this week with Drew, Gibbons or Hayes at M8 (selection dependant).

Should I pull the trigger on Moore or Heeney into Dunkley? Going aggressive this week.

    TU: Moore
    TD: Heeney

  68. Atkins for Macrae is already done.

Thinking of going Drew to Stocker as i cant afford a double upgrade, bit concerned about his js though

T/U – Go for it. Should have good JS
T/D – Better of holding Drew until something better comes up.

  69. I have both M Crouch and Coniglio out in mids so which trade makes more sense?

TU: Atkins & Coniglio > Stocker & Macrae
    TD: Coniglio > Dunkley

    24 trades left.

  70. I know this is unrelated, but has anyone else realized that Supercoach just made Breakevens and projections a pay-to-view function. Apparently you have to pay $20 a month to see breakevens. Ridiculous

      1. Really? Lol, my first year after switching from AFL Fantasy. Do they remove breakevens for non-subscribers halfway through the season?
