Stuv was a hero of mine.  Kinda still is.  Without going into his off-field issues here, they still have to be taken into consideration since they obviously present a risk.  He could be gone at the drop of a hat.  At the same time there is no doubting his ability as a footballer; I used to love watching him run his man off their legs every week, bursting out of stoppages, breaking lines and sticking it on Rooey or whoever else’s chest, week in, week out … ahem.  Excuse me!

However, Jack will be playing frogger for the first time this year and there is no doubting the sun will soon set on a great career.  Will a move back home and turning up at the Cattery for pre-season looking slimmer and fitter than he has in a year or two, mean there is time for one last dash at it in 2020?

He has had a slightly interrupted pre-season with both minor calf and hamstring niggles but by all accounts, should be ready for the get-go.  With Cockatoo going down, the opportunity may become greater.  There’s no doubt his TOG will be managed and he will likely spend periods forward too, allowing him to carry out his damaging clearance work as and when he can.  You can’t help feeling that this is what GEE recruited him for, as their chance at a Premiership is here right now.

Couldn’t resist

What do we need?

A bit like Devon SMITH we’d like him to become a keeper, but again he doesn’t have to.  If he can put 6 or 7 games together averaging over 90, that should be all we need.

Much like SMITH, it’s the on-field points and selling price that we’re after and not the cash generation; though that’s obviously a bonus.

VERDICT:

Hate to say it, but I’m not sure he can do it for us.  He scored three 92+s last year, but also had four games under 75.  He may be better physically and mentally prepared this year, but I would still only consider him if he gets through to Rd1 unscathed, attends a decent amount of stoppages in the Marsh Series and is named Rd1.

I just think there may be better ‘underpriced’ forward options in 2020.  Sorry Stuv.  That said, those who do go down the STEVEN path and it pays off, will be richly rewarded.

  2. Mental health for players is a big no for me in supercoach. Could walk away at any time. Beams, Boyd, Franklin off the top of my head.

    1. I’m with you Sprinter.

I’m expecting big things and a year average of 90-95. He’ll probably start even better with injuries to selwood and Duncan.

  3. With the loss of Kelly and Danger playing fwd minutes, I’m at a bit of a loss on how deep they bat in the middle, Haven’t had a ruckman since Ottens, I’m a bit confused with Geelong’s set up to be honest, there’s got to be someone younger lurking in the middle as a breakout isn’t there?
