Value Picks – RUCs

Written by on March 17 2020

Hey all

With the state of SC in flux at the moment, we still need to consider the alternative RUC options to Grundy and Gawn.  Let’s have a look at the numbers.  Before we start, it would be useful to (re-)read the piece I wrote on alternative RUCK options way back when.

We will look at three.

Made of glass, but only needs to ave. 80 to be of value.  In a shortened season, he could make us a LOT of cash (and provide decent points) very quickly and that is not to be underestimated.  He has come right up in my estimations because of this. He scored 79 from 55% TOG and 69 from 77% TOG.  Let’s have a look at the numbers:

If he scores better than that, you could upgrade him earlier.  He doesn’t have the toughest of opponents in the first 3 weeks (ADE, ESS and GCS).   Will want to know Rd5-7 opponents before making a call, but potentially a great pick for cash gen and some decent points.  Could even start him on your bench! (Father Dougal)

Next up …

He’s getting on now, but has declared himself fit and had one great performance in the MS. Has Gawn week 2, but 3 and 4 should set him up for a couple of decent price kicks.  Consider.

Finally, there is talk of the AFL considering reduced game time.  This brings NicNat to the forefront of considerations as he will be able to play significantly greater TOG% and is the PPM beast!

Here are his numbers, based on a 110 average.

Unless game time is restricted for games by the AFL, NicNat remains a v high risk pick.  Don’t think he’ll average 110 and even if he does, won’t make enough money or offer enough points to start him.  Look elsewhere.

Next up will be FWDs, tomorrow morning.  See you then!
