Weekend Review – Dockers v Dees

by Motts on February 25, 2010

FREMANTLE
M Pavlich ($528,900, 99.58) – 116 inspires man-love in me. Ultra consistent performer who could fill in for an injured midfielder if required. Love love love.
A Sandilands ($538,600, 101.40) – His 106 inspired me to dump Jolly for him.
H Ballantyne ($268,900, 50.63) – Won the ’08 Sandover with this kind of performance. Kicked 2.2 and scored 105. Definitely worth consideration if he backs it up again next game.
D Mundy ($432,400, 81.41) – Not much room for mid priced midfielders in my team. They’re either $500k+ or they’re $350k-. Nice effort here though – 103.
C Pearce ($304,700, 57.38) – 1.1 + a supergoal + 20 possessions = 94 pts. Handy. Watch him again next round.
M Barlow ($111,400) – Just plonked himself on my radar next to Banner with a 91.
P Duffield ($517,500, 97.43) – You may not have heard of this guy but he’s definitely worth consideration. 20/25 possessions were kicks. 93.
G Broughton ($524,100, 98.67) – Another one of the finds of ’09. I can’t justify his price this year though. If he continues to score 85’s and above though I’m going to look silly.
A McPhee ($432,100, 81.35) – scored 64 in 3 quarters of footy before leaving the ground after an ankle knock. Worth monitoring.
A Morabito ($164,200) – *injury alert* got a knock to his knee in Q4 and medical staff were checking his medial ligament. Managed 5 touches and 15 points in limited time on ground.

MELBOURNE
J Macdonald ($421,300, 79.32) – Didn’t do his chances of making my squad any harm at all with a 98. You’ve gotta be thinking that the Melbourne backline is going to see a LOT of the ball this year.
J McDonald ($393,600, 74.11) – 24 touches and 94 points. In the same boat as Mundy for mine.
C Morton ($446,900, 84.14) – I liked this guy earlier this year and still do. I reckon his average is going to lift in 2010. He had 82 on this day.
J Grimes ($501,200, 94.36) – Another bloke who was a ripper last year for me. I’d like to know if they’re going to play him in a tagging role for the rest of the year though. His job on Haselby in this game reduced his output to just 48.
T Scully ($179,200) – His 39 raises more questions than answers. We know how long it took them to play their #1 draft pick last year. On this basis of this performance and his inflated rookie price, I’d skip him for better value elsewhere.
J Trengove ($174,200) – Not a bad first up game for 52. Want to see more though before I’ll be picking him over blokes who cost a lot less who scored a lot higher in their first games. See Barlow, M above.
L Jurrah ($349,000, 73.00) – Price is a little high for me to justify the risk on a sophmore. His 13 here didn’t do anything to change that opinion either.
A Davey ($508,000, 95.64) – Scored 44 in less than ¾ of the game. There’s no doubt he’s a pretty good player. And he was the only Demon to play 22 games last year. I just think there are better options at this price. Brent Harvey comes to mind.

anyone who was thinking of having palmer as a cheap midfielder should probably hold off. rumour is he won’t be ready by round, more likely round 4…davey could well be one of the best bargains of the year i reckon.

I have a man crush on the PAv also. Will be huge this year. I think the Dockers have the potential to play finals some xciting young guns there.
