Weekend Summary – Adelaide v Port Adelaide

by Motts on February 16, 2010

K Cornes ($480,700, 90.50) – both Kane and his unfortunately named brother have produced prodigiously in the past but regardless of what the Little Black Book says about them I’d look elsewhere for better talent. Kane’s 83 on Saturday afternoon would seem to confirm this.

T Boak ($439,700, 82.78) – you need look no further than young Travis as a replacement for Kornes in your midfield. In his 4th season this year he’s starting to come into his own and I think is due for a breakout year. Kornes’ 83 came with a DT score of 103. Trav’s 83 came with a DT score of 68 suggesting he used the ball a hell of a lot better which in SuperCoach is richly rewarded.

M Banner ($100,200) – this kid wasn’t even on my radar before this match but with 94 points I’ve immediately put him on the consideration list for the second spot on my bench. One to watch in the next match fer sure.

N Krakouer ($373,800, 70.37) – started last year with a bang and looks set to do it again with a lazy 120 in this match. Definitely worth considering at this price.

D Cassisi ($504,100, 94.90) – if you can handle having Port players in your midfield then this guy’s another one to consider. Reasonably cheap and last year’s average suggests he will continue to put up numbers like his 104 on Saturday.

S Salopek ($448,200, 84.38) – I’ve always like Salopek as a midfielder but perhaps his best is behind him. 72 on the weekend is nothing to write home about.

A Moore ($139,200) – Pick 9 in last year’s draft didn’t hurt his chances of a spot in my team with a 43. Plays as a Defender / Forward so has a bit of extra appeal about him.
Adelaide

B Vince ($519,600, 97.82) – Really coming into his own. Pretty cheap and if he continues to deliver 103 pts a week for you he’s worth whacking in as your 3rd midfielder.

S Goodwin ($554,400, 104.37) – He’s 33 years old and I keep expecting him to slow down but Goodie delivered another sterliing performance on the weekend – 129 – to prove to me that he’s come to play again in 2010.

P Dangerfield ($332,700, 62.63) – Looking bigger and, in his third season, I’m expecting big things from him but 47 SC points (compared to 72 DT points) bothers me a little. Will be looking for some better performances in the praccies.

T Walker ($239,400, 45.07) – cracked 100 once or twice around the middle of last year – his rookie year – and jeez he’s got a fair rig on him in 2010. Worthy of a punt in your forward line if he can improve on his 60 on Saturday.

C Knights ($441,400, 83.11) – I’m including this guy in the review for Brad who thinks this guy could be the next Paul Chapman. His 62 suggests he still has a bit of a way to go.

P Davis ($100,200) – I’m not giving up on this guy yet because he’s coming into this season with some pretty big wraps on him but 23?? Come on, mate, pull your socks up!

A McLeod ($418,600, 78.82) – still silky smooth but well past his best. Don’t even think about it. 11.

Is there anyone I’ve omitted that you think deserves consideration? Let me know your thoughts.

Come back tomorrow for Hawks v Richmond. Cheers, Motts.

M.Banner included on my bench has freed up 80k which has opened up an opportunity in my FWD line ….. this pleases me greatly.

Team is shaping up nicely …. would like to include T Boak based on comments above …. just can’t afford unless i drop one of several usual favourites in my mid ..namely, Cooney, Swan, Murphy. More review required before that happens.

Liked the look of Hitchcock and D Stewart as cheap Fwd options. Hentschel (who Adelaidians have been talking up due to his 1st uninterrupted preseason for a while) was extremely disappointing and Davis and Trengove have been moved to my ?-list.

All will become clear in the fullness of time, tapster. Keep watching the pre-season games and reading here and the answers you seek will come to you. Ladson, Hunt and Kennelly and Burton all look viable down back at this early stage though. Up front take your pick from Williams, Ziebell, Dangerfield, Burton, and Veszpremi.

Jay Shultz??? Anyone rate him? Showed a bit of promise at tigerland, dispite injuries. Will relish the ball being presented lace out and big tredreas support. Just cant decide if he is worth the risk?
