Game Chat – West Coast v Carlton

Written by Father Dougal on August 12 2017

Venue: Domain Stadium, Saturday, August 12, 5.40pm AWST

Last Time They Met:
R17, 2016, West Coast 12.10 (82) d Carlton 11.9 (75) at the MCG
R2, 2015, West Coast 20.11 (131) d Carlton 9.8 (62) at Domain Stadium
R6, 2014, Carlton 14.8 (92) d West Coast 12.17 (89) at Etihad Stadium
R4, 2013, Carlton 12.17 (89) d West Coast 7.23 (65) at Domain Stadium
R12, 2012, West Coast 10.19 (79) d Carlton 10.9 (69) at Domain Stadium

Game notes: Yet another fourth-quarter fadeout against St Kilda has left West Coast with very little margin for error in the run home if the Eagles want to play finals. Adam Simpson’s men probably need to win at least two, and possibly all three, of their remaining games, and beating Carlton is an absolute must considering daunting challenges against GWS (away) and Adelaide (home) await. Brownlow medallist Matt Priddis and ruckman Nathan Vardy are set to be recalled after West Coast was smashed around clearances and in contested ball when the game was on the line against the Saints, and the Blues’ midfield looms as the Eagles’ major concern this weekend. Carlton has lost seven-straight games but found some life against arch-rival Essendon last round in an eight-point loss. It’s difficult to see the defensively-minded outfit upsetting West Coast, but they could frustrate the Eagles, who also need a percentage boost.

Father Dougal’s Tip: Eagles by 2

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

    1. Someone is tagging him but i can’t place who it is. Even the cheap kicks when he runs around behind the kicker he’s not getting. He might come good for us.

        1. On the other hand, it will reduce his 2018 starting price. And every opponent that you actually need to worry about will already have him. So maybe this isn’t such a bad thing?

          1. Docherty is one of my PODs in the LOEC3 knock out final against Schwartz. Combined with Neale, my odds have significantly dropped.

  2. The nonsensical season of SC continues.

    L Partington- 77 SC Points
    7 Disposals, 4 Contested, 4 Kicks, 2 Marks, 2 Tackles, 0 Clangers, 1 Goal, 85.7 DE

An absolute joke that he is within 3 points of the below trio:

    D Zorko- 78 SC points
    22 Disposals, 11 Contested, 9 Kicks, 4 Marks, 4 Tackles, 5 Clangers, 1 Goal, 63.6 DE

    R Laird- 80 SC Points
    27 Disposals, 3 Contested, 13 Kicks, 10 Marks, 0 Tackles, 0 Clangers, 92.6 D.E

    M Priddis- 80 SC points
    17 Disposals, 9 Contested, 5 Kicks, 1 Mark, 10 Tackles, 4 Clangers, 64.7 D.E

  3. Only noticed Partington when he kicked a goal, thought there must have been a mistake with his score. Be nice to know how the scoring system worked so we could get players in that the scoring system favours. Might be a good talking point next year. I wasted my last 2 trades on Zorko and he got what he deserved but Laird played a good game and was robbed i thought. Anyway it’s a great game which we will never master but it’s good fun trying.
