What to do with Tadhg?

by Big Sexy on May 28, 2010

Ok, so like 110,682 of us, we all have a decision to make about the Irishman.  I think I know what I’m gona do but would like some input that may help me and hundreds of thousands SC fans make the right decision for their team:

My Considerations:

1)    Are you prepared to play Tadhg come finals?  If NO, then you need to trade now.  I personally am ok with having Tadhg on the park at the pointy end of the season.

2)    Do you have emergencies on your back line, and are they any good?  If you don’t have any emergencies, then I would definitely be looking to make a trade.  I personally still have Maguire and Silvangi sitting on the pine, so Maguire is scoring well and Silvangi is a handy emergency.  Though it means no cashing in on these guys for the next few weeks.

3)    Do you need to free up some cash to fill another hole in your team?  I personally am ok, as I used more gap-filler than Tim the Tool Man on my forward line over the past few weeks and burnt a few trades, and it is pretty settled for now.

4)    Do you think he will only be on the sidelines for 3 weeks?  I have no idea, but can only trust the medico’s and tell myself… 4 games, worst case.

5)    If I trade, do I upgrade Tadhg to a gun with the cash I have in the bank, or do I go for a rookie and who do you get.  Most people already have Hodge and Goddard, and only have about 30k in the bank….. when it come to Rookie downgrades, I’d strongly recommend Webberley  if you want to go that way.

Conclusion for me:  Taghg get some quality time at the beach with his family, and on my bench for a few weeks…. Pending other unforeseen issues this week.

I’m sticking with Thai, have Webberly in as a replacement, who should be good for 60 which is only about a 20pt loss.
Roberton is my other idle defender, so another defensive injury may force my trading hand, but that depends on if Roberton is playing.

Yeah, i tend to agree…… but my situation has been complicated a little by Silvangi being out with an ankle. Anyone know how long Silvangi will be out?

Only 8 trades left means both Tadgh and Gram sit on my bench with coverage provided by Waters and Davis. Fingers crossed they’re only out for a month or so, and then they fire up for the end of the season.

Nice bench for later on you have there, Mickey.

I’ve got Tadgh and Paul Bower warming the pine in my DT.

Gotta think long-term with 8 trades left. Have been contemplating Kennelly to Waite who can then DPP with Davis and Grundy, but that’ll cost me trade. I’m certain that the whole DPP thang will really come in handy later.

Totally agree with you. Hence the Greenwood trade this week for me in my backline.

Like you Motts I have Maguire and Silvagni on the bench. Bringing on Maguire for Tadhg and will hopefully be okay. Gonna keep him and hope he does come back in the 4 weeks. Before his last game 2 he was almost getting us 90 a game. Think he will be good come finals, as long as know more injuries! With Silvagni being out as well now though does concern me a little. Hopefully he is just out the week.

Really really tempted to do a straight swap for R Hargrave – whats ur thoughts on the best long term?
Have Webberley and Sheppard on my bench and 11 trades left …

Putting him on the bench, no need to trade IMO. Got Bower back next week and I have Maguire and Roberton covering for them until there fit and ready :)

Yep, il be doing the same.
Gilbee will be as cheap as he’s gona get this week at $500,000 flat. I will trade Waters out for Webberley to free up the cash.

I am also doing the above for the following accompanying reasons:

1. Because Waters is scoring poorly since his shift to the forward line.
2. Because I have Goose to come off the bench for Kennelly and then no other emergency avaliable ( I have Roberton on the bench and he may not get a game this week).
3. Would rather trade out Waters than Maguire because Maguire has a lower break-even and has seems the better scorer when his team plays poorly.
4. Was planning on trading two of Kennelly, Waters and Maguire earlier this season.
5. Has Waters really been that good? For his price, yes, but with an average of under 80 ur missing out on 20+ each week that a premium would deliver.
6. I wanted Webberley at the start of the season, as he will score fairly well as a rebounding defender and/or on the wing.

8 trades left after using these 2 and enough money to bring in a premium for Trengrove after the mid season break where I can take advantage of his 120 last week.

good points Nicko. i’m running out of trades though (9 left). Would like to take 4 trades to the finals if possible might just sit on what i have for a few weeks and see what happens.

Also forgot to mention that a medial ligament injury can keep a player restricted for a few weeks after they return. With heavy strapping and managed game loads, scores can suffer, as we saw with Scott Pendelbury last year.

You must also consider that Kennelly’s price will plummit for a month after he comes back. So if u dont wana keep him all year u are burning cash by keeping him.

Good points Nicko. I’m also worried about Tadgh’s output once he gets back on the field. After all, this isn’t a sore toe we’re talking about.

I just traded out Kennelly for 85K DPP Jack Weston from Geelong.

He wont get a game but he can be shifted around to a Fwd or Bk bench with Grundy and Waite (who will be back next week to take Kennely’s position)

Then used the cash to get Franklin in for Rioli up forward who has been killing me… I now have only 6 trades left for the year (rookie mistake?).

With some $ in the bank I’ll do 1 more trade to finalise the team next week (upgrade Waters/Maguire) and then hold 5 trades and 10 DPP’s in the team for injures for the rest of the year.

I also reckon multiple DPP’s will be a genuine advantage and point of difference later in the year and am working on that assumption…

I’m pretty sure it was leg soreness, he wasn’t dropped I can tell you that. I will get him if he makes the team today, Shcammer is the only one who could take his spot I rekon.

Any help would be appreciated. I’ve got 11 trades left with 454k. I was thinking of upgrading:
Martin->Montagna
Kennelly->Goddard, Gilbee or Gilbert. [Or any other suggested player]

They sound good. Get Goddard for sure, you’ve got Hodge I’m guessing?
You want a minimum of 6 trades going into finals. I’m personally aiming to have 8, so don’t use many more only when seriuos injury (or very bad form).

Have you got bench support? Because if you do, put them on and keep Tadhg. He’ll will end up getting back to where was getting 80-90 before his injury and there should be better options you could upgrade instead of Kennelly. That’s what I’m doing.

If it’s desperate, pick Heath, if you can afford to wait, Roberton, long-term Roberton is better, I think Sydney’s just using Heath until all their players are back.

I need to do the trade this week:

waters to gilbee
roberton and Heath will have my last bench spot. Who do I pick long term as they probs won’t ever get on the field?

Roberton, purely on the fact Freo gives there kids more of run than Sydney.
