What To Do With Watts?

Written by Duck on April 2 2013

Seems like Jack Watts name is on many coaches lips, and not in a good way, after his 48 on the weekend.

Is it too early to tell if he should stay or go or have you got other ideas on how to spend the $460k? If you don’t have him, what would you do?

Note, Melbourne’s next 3 opponents are Essendon, West Coast and GWS.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. I didn’t see the match but I hear that he was uninterested. I’m hanging on for one more match. Surely the team will get a massive lecture which should knock some sense into him. If he fails this week then it’s goodbye Watts.

  2. There was bloke on before in the other thread saying that his grandfather died last week. Irrespective, he’ll get one more week to bounce back, and mostly because I want to see Siposs, A.Walker and JJ Kennedy for one more week before I decide what to do with him. Anything less than 100 against the Bombers seals his fate.

  3. Love the quality in the 2008 draft. Jacky boy was the #1. Saying that I am trying to avoid Melbourne players as I think they are ‘spoon’ faves. Jacky boy Grimes I have to have. Viney and Watts. Backing him though, will repay my faith………………….. mmmmmmmm

  4. I want to give him the boot this week but I will give him Round 2 to redeem himself. He has to get around the 100 mark tho. After that I will swap him with Gibbs.

  5. I do not have Watts but I did pick Broughton … I know, I know … Broughton is gone this week probably for Mr Reliable aka Mr Grant Birchall. IMO forwards tend to be up and down so I like to bank on reliable defenders when I can (ie. Goddard, Gibbs, Hepp, Birch). My other option is to grab Terlich or O’Shea this week and enlist Jimmy Bartel up fwd but that is a long shot at this stage.

  7. Deep breath taken. Holding fire for this week at least.

I ask the same question this time every year (I’m a gold fish, it’s not my fault). Do prices changes happen AFTER round 3?

  8. I’m pretty surprised at the idea of dumping Watts after only one game. Sure it was rubbish, but 48 from a guy that went completely missing is not the worst ever. Birchall scored 49 Round 1 2011 and went on to average 94. And in 2012 he had 5 scores in the 60s and one of 55…and went on to average 94.

Are the extra trades making people extra trade happy? Or maybe I’m just doing some wishful thinking that Watts will launch me to supercoach glory :/

  9. I’m a bit the same, but in saying that I still think the first two rounds gives plenty of opportunities to cash in and cash out! It’s almost like share trading, most of the action it’s at the beginning of the day.
I’ m so disappointed in Watts. can’t carry him.

  10. I’ll hold onto Watts for another week. Here’s hoping he can score another 111 like he did against the Bombers last season! If not, he’s gone, and I’ll get Kane Mitchell out for Viney while I’m at it so can get some extra money for a better forward..(yes that’s where Watts is at the moment).
