Worst Trades 2012

by Motts on July 31, 2012

They could either be blokes you started with who went down early (see Fyfe, Nathaniel) or who never really fired (see Newman, Chris). Or they might be blokes you brought in mid-season who immediately proceeded to stink it up (see Stanton, Brett) or get injured (see Sandilands, Aaron).

Who were your worst trades for the year and what did they cost you?

I think you should have had the good ones on here too.

Terrible trades
Mine: having Cloke from the start and not trading him until last week o_O
SCTTL team: Waters for Goodes- waste of a trade but I suppose I wasn’t to know at the time

Also in my SCTTL team: I think for consistency etc my round 5 trade of Mumford ($610, 300) to Maric ($382, 100) was one of my best trades.

Scotland to Goddard when Scotland did his Calf. Only out for 1 week instead of the 3. Goddard has gone backwards.
Fyfe to Pavlich early on was handy. Picked up Pav for under 500k.

Bad trades – Had Fyfe,Mumford,Goodes,Ryder,Zaharakis,Murphy throughout but they werent bad trades just bad luck imo……My worse move was not to trade in ZOrko…by far..and perhaps Murphy -NDS hasnt been great

Best trade – Fyfe – Beams round 5 ……Proud of that one I must say

H Shaw to carrazzo round 4 for a total of 3 points before injury.
Still haven’t managed to get shaw back in.
Robbie gray from start. (I was thinking POD)
Getting cloke in when he had “bottomed out” around 400000.
Mumford to sandi.
Worst. Getting sexton instead of zorko!!
Best. Giles to Jacobs for not much.
Fyfe to sidebum
A lot of LTI in first half of season has seen me playing catch up all year
Still clinging to top four

Clarke to carrazzo

Mine is more like series of trades as guys I would put in to cover an injury would then get injured themselves.

Mumford-Sandilands-Luenberger-McIntosh. Brought Maric in for McIntosh so not all bad in the end. But four trades wasted to finally get my premium ruckman sorted.

Also went Gray-Fyfe-Goodes-Zaharakis and now back to Goodes again. More wasted trades chasing injuries.

Dishonourable mentions:
1. Even having Smith, Clay in my team

Looking at my non-playing bench players i’ve made some mistakes in the rush to upgrade (Sexton, Aaron; Crozier, Hayden; Campbell, Tom) but i can’t really be too down on myself for them as they’ve generated cash for upgrades.

WINNER:
Getting Ward, Callan when Fyfe, Nathaniel went down. He’s been serviceable with an avg of 105 in some ways that’s been the problem. He scores 100ish every week but is clogging up a spot that really should be a Swan, Dane; Pendlebury, Scott or Watson, Jobe.

I think I might take the gold medal with this….

Started the year with Broughton in the backline. At $502k he scores 57 and 72 in the first two weeks and there’s lot of talk about his role changing under Lyon. So I trade him out.

Between rounds 3 to 11 he peels off 6 hundreds and avg’s 97 and he’s down to $466k so I figure he’s a good option so I trade him back in.

He then reels off 4 more games for me averaging 58, dropping $100k and then getting injured. So two burnt trades, $100k drop in price for a total of 361 points (60 avg).

Never again Greg…

Round 11: Hargrave>Newman (Now sitting on my bench)

Round 13: Treloar>Crozier

Have had a solid season.
Only off trade was Ablett out for Marc Murphy at 600k. Cost me big time, having three crap weeks including the injury that dangerfield landed.

I bought in Murphy last week. And repayed the faith.
Good buys were zorko, dangerfield, Giles, lake, and Lenny Hayes who’s been a rock in midfield from day 1

Injured Players I started with
Mumford
Murphy
Fyfe
Goodes
I recovered pretty well bringing players like Boyd and Adcock but by FAR worst decision was bringing in Zaharakis bring him in round 9 peels of 2 scores of 95 then decides to try some massive torps after training and does his quad.

Horrible decisions at the start: Josh Caddy, Nick Dal Santo and Greg Broughton.

Worst trades: Round 4: Mumford – Sandilands

Round 6: Ablett – Rockliff. Ablett comes back the next week. Rockliff proceeds to average less than 100 for the rest of the year, only turning up after half time each week and only against the weak teams. Needed to do two downgrades to get Ablett back. So essentially 4 trades to get Rocky.

Round 16: Waters – Yarran. Yarran’s been okay but I really, really want Waters back.

Best trades: None. Maybe Round 3: Dickson – Greene or Round 8: Bugg – Waters.

Mummy to Roughy
JMac to Priddis
Goodes to Jlew

Now for the Bad:

First up was Fyfe to Cloke when Beams was about the same Price
Gaz to Swan the week swan did his hammy.
Zaha in the week before he did his quad
Didak the week he went down
Tippet the week of his first concussion.
Crozier the week before he went down with the sickness.
Dickson to A.Hall ( not sure what happened to Hall)
Not trading Broughton.
And Worst of all NOT GETTING ZORKO.

Trading out Deledio before lockout due to rumors of injury. Havn’t been able to get him in still.

Worst trade of the year: Murphy+140k for Stanton. I’ll reverse it (minus the cash) this week; Stanton+80k for Murphy. Buy high sell low, right?

Best: Adam Kennedy just below his peak for Zorko just above his trough (after game 3). Plus 60k cash. Or Mumford for Maric plus 85k (same week as Murphy for Stanton). Though for the second one I had to sit on Mumford for a few weeks while he was injured, which gave me Giles+Redden or Stephenson as starters.

ROUND 5
OUT Wingard ($185,800) IN Selwood ($617,400)
OUT Mumford ($610,300) IN Stephenson ($106,600)
ROUND 3
OUT Ledger ($113,200) IN Greene ($146,600)
OUT Cox ($662,600) IN Naitanui ($508,800)
ROUND 2
OUT Broughton ($502,100) IN Birchall ($509,600)

On the whole, I think I’m ok with all that. Obviously, trading out Cox early on may have been a mistake, but I picked up Naitanui in the trade who has been brilliant for me, and is still in the side anyway. Round 11 was a disappointment, picking up two rookies who have since gone on to injure themselves without gaining much value. Grabbing Rance may not have been the best option, he’s been a bit up and down, though he is playing at least. The only other worry is Buddy to Goodes. Yes, it got me Cox back, but I’m thinking Beams/Jacobs or McEvoy may have been better overall – we’ll just have to wait and see I suppose.

Best Trades – dunno, Smurf to Zorko was obviously the right way to go at the time. Picked up Pav just in time for a 160 as Captain. Other than that, they all seem fairly solid to my eye.

Originally having Zorko and Pfeiffer in Rd 1 and trading them back in later on before their price rose, just waste of two trades. Not necessarily the worst.

Worst:
Broughton for Dempsey in Rd3
Christensen for Schulz – went no where as the week later Schulz is in hospital
Porps for Goodes in Rd16 could of held that off or just buggered Dempsey off instead
Not having Giles in the beginning is the worst mistake

Best:
Fyfe to Treloar – he was doing really good and when he dropped off I got Scotty Thompson, also allowed me to get Pendles
Ellis to Zorko – doesn’t matter who I traded in for this, nuff said.

Those were the best for value, had some good upgrades but these were key

The bad:
Mumford >>> Sandi
A. Kennedy >>> Zaharakis 2 weeks before doing his quad
Horsley >>> Pendles a week before cracking his tibia
Not getting Zorko.

The good:
Fyfe >>> Sidebottom when SB was @ around $450k
Dickson >>> Roughead has been a masterstroke

I didn’t really have any bad trades but when I traded I got everyone at their highest price. it’s my first year doing super coach so yeah…

Goodes > Ablett (710k)
Swan > Thompson (633k)
Hodge > Deledio (610k)

now that I’ve learnt about break-evens and stuff I could’ve had an extra 100k + to spend.

good trades were

Fyfe (528k) > Sidebottom (454k)
and thats about it haha

Sam, picking up that BE’s and selling high & buying low is the key in your first year is a good learning curve. Many people still don’t get that after a few years of playing & still chase last weeks score & players whose price has peaked.

Where to start…

The Bad:
Fyfe>Carrazzo (who promptly returned a massive 3 pts)
Cox>Sandilands (don’t no what i was thinking back in rd 2)
Mumford>Kreuzer>Mumford (wtf is wrong with me-was tossing up between maric and kreuzer originally and then mumford later?!)
Horsely>Sexton (over elliot coz of better js :’( )
Giles>Phillips (really wanted to get campbell, but figured i’d go with the “safe choice” even though it cost me another 80k)
Lake>Dempsey (speaks for itself)
Greg Broughton

The Good:
Kennedy>Beams in rd 7 (this makes me really, really happy :) )

Despite all this I’m still at 7151 overall

Hands down worst trade of the many I did this season was

RD 11 – The Porp to Didak!!! Didak lasted literally 2 mins on the field before he took a mark and went to kick it tearing his groin again!
Porp has since gone on and scored this since – 90, 55, 106, 80, 128!!, 105!! and 100!!!!

Well-loved. Like or Dislike: Thumb up 7 Thumb down 0

Ablett out in round 6 only to bring him back in in round 14. Although I got Pendles in at the time and he won me a few games in Ablett’s absence.

Cloke in round 13. Speaks for itself really!

So far I’ve been lucky enough to avoid a fair chunk of the major injuries although I’ve held onto Pendles, Waters and Buddy through injury (very nearly pulled the trigger on Waters but decided against it thankfully!)

Worst trade I never did….not getting in Zorko. Still haunts me!
