Game Chat – Cats v Hawks

Written by Motts on March 28 2016

Venue: The ‘G, 3:20pm

Last Time They Met: R20, 2015, Hawthorn 19.7 (121) d Geelong 12.13 (85) at the MCG

Best SC in last match:

  • Geelong – Guthrie 135, Enright 116, Duckwood 114, Blicavs 101
  • Hawthorn – Shiels 115, Roughead 110, Hodge 108, Birchall 98

Key Outs:

  • Geelong – Josh Cowan (omitted), Daniel Menzel (omitted), Nathan Vardy (omitted), Mitch Clark (injured), Sam Menegola (injured), Nakia Cockatoo (suspended), James Kelly (Essendon), Stevie J (GWS)
  • Hawthorn – Daniel Howe (omitted), Brendan Whitecross (omitted), Jarryd Roughead (injured), Liam Shiels (injured), Brad Hill (injured), Matt Suckling (Dogs), Brian Lake (retired), David Hale (retired)

Game notes: Geelong has lost the hold it once had over the defending premiers but this much anticipated clash hasn’t lost any lustre with the Cats expected to bounce back up the ladder in 2015. The blue and white debut of Patrick Dangerfield will be most keenly watched but Zac Smith and Lachie Henderson are also under pressure to perform. The Hawks have injuries to vital players, which will force them to regenerate quickly but their personnel and system makes them too good to discount. The midfield battle will once again determine each team’s fortunes as both sides have forward lines that can kick quick goals. Hawthorn’s better backline and experience playing together should give them the slight edge but I’m tipping an upset.

Mottsy’s Tip: Geelong by 6

  1. Nice write-up, Motts.
With West Coast and the Dogs to come, we need this one.

  2. Can’t wait to see these two teams go to battle once again. There’s been some belters over the years and I reckon this will be no different. And now that Dangerfield is playing in this game it just adds some extra spice to an already hot dish

  3. If Danger’s going to get tagged (not just this game) is there a case to make a last minute trade to Jelwood perhaps? Will be a nice POD and free up some cash.

  5. Two regrets of the week seem to be not going with Zac Smith and JJ. We’ll see how they go against different opponents next week.
