2017/18 BBL SuperCoach – Must Haves #2

MUST HAVE

RASHID KHAN – $198,800 (BWL)

I’m not sure there will be a greater lock this coming season than Rashid Khan. A lot of batters will get spoken about as being ‘must haves’ (Chris Lynn last week for example) but we all know that a batter is one good ball, one shocking umpiring decision or one sizzle of a run out courtesy of his batting partner away from a bad score. The guarantee from your bowlers is that no matter what they should get 4 overs and from there it comes down to skill and some competency from their mates in the field. Anyway, back to the 20 year Afghanistani (find me a copy of that birth certificate please) who ticked the following boxes during BBL07…

-Economy Rate: 5.66
-Wickets: 18 from 11 games
-Averaged 63.6 points BBL Fantasy points (ranked 10)

He is also able to add the following to his resume:

-No. 1 ranked T20 bowler in the world 👑
-Boasts an ODI record of 112 wickets at an average of 14.06 and a T20 record of 64 wickets at 12.40 😮

If you needed any more convincing he has been making runs down the order for Afghanistan, including an unbeaten 50 against Bangladesh in the Asian Cup. Just lock him in, the guy is a freak! 🔒

WORTH SOME THOUGHT?

NATHAN COULTER-NILE – $125,000

I actually couldn’t believe my eyes when I did some research and saw that Nathan Coulter-Nile has played a combined 8 games over the past five BBL seasons, staggering! Even more staggering is that he has been selected in the upcoming Australian T20 series against Pakistan, but hey he’s Western Australian so that’s enough to get you a game under at the minute it seems. 🙄

NCL was on the cusp of Test selection a few summers back before the dreaded stress fractures of the back took hold which have curtailed a career which at the minute includes 19 T20 Internationals and 21 ODI’s.

At his best he is destructive with both the bat and the ball and much like Jason Behrendorff last week, we are quick to forget just how good he was when he was at the peak of his powers.

His JLT Cup numbers were impressive, 9 wickets from 4 games with an economy of 4.90, he has dual position status and has the double game week in the first round. Could be a handy little acquisition in a batting spot. Well he’s there for me at the minute anyway!!!

Definitely worth some thought!
