2018 SCT Crystal Ball Results

We may know our SuperCoach but in an embarrassment to ourselves, our families and this illustrious site, not one of our 42 entrants in our inaugural Crystal Ball comp included either West Coast OR Collingwood in their premiers and runners up. No-one!!!!! With 42 entrants in the comp all selecting both a Premier and Runners Up we are statistically 0 from 84 for either leg of the Grand Final quinella. That is just ridiculous and I feel Motts should launch a full review into all things SuperCoachTalk (I hear there’s a consultancy group Collective Minds that does things in this space, maybe give them a buzz Motts). We’ve gone that terribly that I can release the final Crystal Ball results BEFORE the last Saturday in September.

Looking at our entries it was Adelaide, Geelong, GWS, Sydney and Port Adelaide that featured strongly in our pre-season Grand Final quinellas. In hindsight we ballsed it up big time but at the time they seemed logical selections. 50% of us had Adelaide featuring this Saturday but we didn’t know the shemozzle that was their pre-season and their large injury list was massive at times. GWS was the closest of the popular selections to doing something meaningful with some of us eeking out 1 point for their 6th placed finish but they couldn’t do enough for long enough this season. Casting our minds back to Feb/March, most of us were thinking Bucks was on thin ice and that West coast was probably going to dip before rising again after losing Priddis, Mitchell and Petrie. Now we all look like schmucks!!

To explain the Runners Up scoring I decided that since it’s a runners up comp that the premier is one off the mark as is the 3rd placed finisher. This explains what may look like a mistake at first glance of the Runners Up table.

Who Cares?

Zim (Year of the Demons)

Well done to the four entries that correctly predicted Mitchell to win the Brownlow. This result had a huge impact on the final scoring. Of the many failed selections Kelly, Fyfe, Sloane and to a lesser extent Bontempelli and Martin were injury effected and with greater luck they coulda/shoulda/woulda been featuring in the Brownlow night top five. Zim can feel harshly done by as most of us would argue that Oliver had a cracking season and probably missed out on votes that Brayshaw picked up. That said, I think BOMBER2018 was blinded by loyalty in his selection of Merrett.

That leads us to the final results. I said earlier that Mitchell winning the Brownlow was big for the Crystal Ball final results and you can see below how big an impact it truly had. It catapulted ET from a tie in 3rd into a winning position as well as getting Arzi from a tie for 6th into 2nd place. We ended with a huge spread of scores with tazspeech on a miserly 8 points. Congrats to the top three but particularly to ET on the win in our inaugural Crystal Ball competition.

  1. Only 1 point difference between my head and heart picks was surprising, but it was definitely a good year to be a Dees supporter.

Great competition and cheers for setting it up Roo Bloke.
