Cow Talk – Round Five

Written by Father Dougal on April 26 2018

“Small or Far Away” Father Dougal on Cows

All my wit-like-substance went into doing the numbers this week, so my apologies for the short and rather dull write ups. I’m too tired to risk a beer, and need to sleep too much once done to risk coffee. Hope not too many game weeks end on Wednesday night in the future!

In a way, the many good cows and many terrible cows with few in between interesting cows this season is kinda boring.  There are a lot of cows you can happily let play on field every week, no thinking needed. Beats the Cow-pocalypse……

Defenders

Sam Murray is doing well, and there is not a lot to say about him other than he is going well and is not yet ripe. That might be the best kind of cow, no fuss, makes money while scoring points.

Tom Doedee is the same as….ohhh, the other two of the Three Musketeers. I hereby dub Deodee, Finlayson, and Murray “The Three Musketeers.”  Having done that, one of them will of course now do something to stop me from using the same basic write up for all of them but I’m willing to take that chance.

Aaron Naughton is going much better and seems to be settling into a new higher expected score. No rush to get rid of him.

Tim Kelly “Chance.”  Much less chance. His projections may be too high, like how Naughton’s may be too low, expect in the other direction. You knew that. Still, not close to done, hold and wait for his growth to slow down more before selling

Lachlan Fogarty is a pain to write about because I don’t own him. Came from nowhere. Well, a place where he didn’t look safe, but at his price, hmm, learn from not having him I will, randomly start speaking like Yoda I should not.

Bayley Fritsch was rested and may well return this week. He really hasn’t made enough to sell, unless he is not named and you have donut issues.

Jarrod Garlett must have thought all that attention Connor Menadue got last season was a good thing, because he put up a Menadue-like 21. That’s gonna kill his price changes for two more weeks, assuming he gets another match after that. I’m downgrading him to someone who will make money faster, and will accept his not high value in order to get some cash made elsewhere. He could always surprise, but at least what I have seen does not encourage.

Daniel Lloyd can’t really have peaked already, can he have? His 95 did shoot his score up, but without more scores over, say, 70 he won’t go up much more or very fast.

Special Guests

Riley Bonner  “I still feel he is an 80-ish average player and want his points more than cash from him, which is why he really isn’t a cow.”  Well, it appears if he’s an 80ish average player he’s holding back on the high score needed to bring his average back up. Not a lot of reason to hold if you can use the cash. Last week as a special guest. He’s not like one of those “Special Guest Stars” on TV shows that guest every week, he’s the sort that turns into a smelly fish after three rounds. Well, five rounds.

Zac Fisher “is…a lot like Bonner.”  Nope, was a lot like him, but he scored a 117 and is looking more like a mid-pricer or low end premium, and will be “Sir not appearing in this sermon” after this week. Because he’s too good, not because he is smelly.

Final thoughts

I’m gonna have to work on formatting the numbers. My brain isn’t up to that now. Maybe next week. Argh, sorry.

Now that I’m sorta kinda making predictions, remember the Craggy Island guarantee – all predictions wrong or triple your money back!

Thanks for reading.

  1. Great article, FD! I have been trying to find the break even for Bonner but no luck. Anyone know his breakeven for this week?

  2. Hey FD with the likes of the three musketeers and Kelly/Holman/Banfield/English etc all looking to ripen around the same time – rounds 9-10-11 how do you recommend we deal with the carving of the cows? How do we make the most money from our cows when we inevitably have to carve some early?

    1. Duffer, I think it’s a bit early to make that call as a lot could happen between now and then score-wise for the rooks (e.g., if one tons up, you can hold them an extra 2-3 weeks).

    2. That’s a great question! I’ll think about it and try and have an answer for next weeks Cow Talk. I’m sure other people, including me, are wondering that.
