Dumb & Dumber – Rd4

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 20 2016

Supercoach is the greatest fantasy game on Earth.  It can also be the most frustrating 😉

I’ve said it many times……hindsight is a wonderful thing.  It’s near-impossible to get everything right in this great game of ours.  But………….how many times have you regretted one of your ‘clever’ decisions?  How often does your ‘new premium’ simply go missing?  Why do your well-researched ‘breakout’ candidates never amount to much?  And why the hell did I mess with my side at the last minute (again!)??

The season is only four weeks old and the Supercoaches are already getting restless.  What moves have you made or didn’t make that are killing you right now?  Which players are causing you the most grief?  Did you tinker with the starting line-up too much?  Which moves were just plain dumb?

You look angry………do you need a place to vent?  This is the place to vent………..let it all out!!

  1. Sheridan and Lonergan…

and leaving out Parker on the last night after he had been in my team the entire preseason!

  2. What a thread!

Days before Round 1 – I decided to take Zorko out (who was missing the first game) and replace him with Barlow………instead of just playing a rookie and keeping Zorko on the bench.

  3. Starting without ZMerrett and ZAHARAKISSSSS despite being a bombers supporter and had them in my team all preseason has absolutely killed me.
Yeo, Wines and Barlow havnt shown what i selected them for either.

  4. I had Z Merrett in all pre-season but made the rash decision of getting in S Gray instead at the last moment just before lockout :-(.

  5. I risked it, and definitely didn’t get the biscuit, and went with Z Smith in the rucks.
Four rounds down and he has hardly touched a ruck contest. Now looking at either dumping Lonergan to bring in either Nic Nat or Martin or dumping Barlow to bring in Goldstein to cover Z Smith.

  6. Started Zac Smith in the hope he might make a bit of cash so I could have 5 or 6 rounds to see who was performing for R2 (Goldy at R1) Looked a brilliant move when he was on 86 SC points at half time round 1, gone missing ever since. Thought rucking to Danger and Selwood he would pick up a few HOTA and post a few decent scores.

Pulled the trigger on him last week by bringing in Ruggles a week early giving me just enough cash to upgrade him to Gawn before Max’s price went up and Zac’s went down.

Live and learn, don’t stuff around with your rucks.

  8. Having Yeo and bringing in JJ after two rounds because Yeo didn’t look like performing. Now JJ is out for 10 and Yeo puts up a 129 score and breakeven of 40…

  9. S gray instead of hall

Panicking coz barely any backline rookies were named

    Mills over parish

Not getting Papley at the start of the season & trading him in for scores of 46&24 while Petracca sits on the bench

  10. Captaining Dangerfield when he scored 70-odd…..
    Season-breaker.
Oh yeah and JJ trying to kick a 60m goal when his hammy is obviously incapable.

  11. Starting with Jack Steele & Rocky.

Also bringing in Selwood and Wines for Danger and Parker during the last 24 hours leading up to lockout. Selwood decision not as bad I suppose…

  12. Not starting Hannebery over Rockliff but brought Hannebery in after round 2. Also had J Lyons locked in forward line until he was an emergency in Round 1. Swapped for J Simpkin before the start of round 1 then Simpkin was traded to G Hewitt who is now traded back to J Lyons. Has cost me 2 trades and wish I would have left Lyons on the bench. Also Round 2 had the Captain on Danger, Rich and Rockliff injured, Bartel, Shaw, Barlow low scores which lead to a score of 2000 odd in Round 2 which is the main reason I’m not currently higher than 11,000.

  13. Where to start…
    * After saying all pre-season that I would never pay 600K for a defender, decided to dump Gibbo and put Shaw in based on NAB form, where forward pressure is non-existent and Heater can just run around doing what he wants. Dumb factor: 7/10
    * Making trade conservation my no.1 priority, and then picking two of the most injury-prone mids with no pre-season in BCrouch and Rockliff, both of whom I have since traded out. Dumb factor: 9/10
    * Bonafide Sydney fan who picked Wines instead of Parker for reasons I have long since forgotten. Or maybe I didn’t have any in the first place? Dumb factor: 6/10
    * Michael Barlow. At least I’m not the only one in that boat. Dumb factor: 5/10.

  14. Having 3 Port “””””””premos”””””” in my team and I’m a Crows man who wants Port to get thrashed every week. Got sucked in by their “”””””” good”””””” draw.

  15. Traded out Rich last week to bring in RGray. Rich ended up outscoring Robbie by 40 points and I lost three league matches by less than 40 points.

Brought TMitchell in two weeks ago as a POD after his consecutive 120s and he’s given me a 100 and a 70 in the two weeks since.

Then the common issues I would think in Rocky, Barlow, Lonergan, etc.

  16. Where to start: Three months of planning led to these decisions in the last two weeks.
Believing the hype on Lonergan, Sheridan and Harwood instead of sticking to Yeo, Smith and Hartley.
Seeing value in injury prone Rockliff and Crouch instead of original thoughts of Parker and Libba.
Used NAB form for last minute change of Franklin and Jack Martin to Barlow and S. Gray.
Stuck with Petracca because Papley would only play a game or two, make no money and be a waste of a trade.

  17. managed to nail all my premiums except for bloody Barlow , he has been getting a reprieve every week for some reason or another but if he doesnt ton up against the Blues I’m swing him into the mids and latching onto a cheapish Sloane next week 🙂

    1. Having watched him live on Sunday he looked a shadow of his former self. HE is no longer an elite midfielder and I was amazed he scored a decent score on the weekend as he was definitely a passenger in the Freo cause. Wouldn’t be surprised if Ross the Boss sent a message this week and dropped a few and I reckon Barlow might be a casualty of the shake up.

  18. Finally a thread where i feel the opinion of the 17,019th ranked SuperCoach coach is worthwhile.

My biggest mistake has been one of my defensive premo spots.

Wanted KK but he wasn’t playing. Went for Yeo then jumped ship after 2 dud scores to jump on JJ who then scored lower than Yeo for the next two rounds and is now missing 10 weeks. I’m now about to invest my second trade on a spot that i shouldn’t have really made any trades on.

  19. My Round 1 team, picking by accident Kennedy Harris instead of Kennedy. Ended up with a fat zero instead of 115 points and lost a trade the following week to fix the stupid mistake…

Round 5 and I’m still no over it…

I have one word for you ‘Paul Seedsman’….The Seed of pain in my team he is!

  21. *Having Parker locked since supercoach gold opened and swapped to Selwood 2 days out. Was down 102 points already after 2 rounds, at least Selwood has bought it back to 81 after 4.
*Not starting Liberatore, ended up being my first correction trade.
*Only went with one of Hewett/Papley from Sydney and went with Hewett, brining in Papley was my second correction trade.
*Starting 2 of Mills/Oliver/Parish as my 200+ rookies. Left out Parish.
*Starting Barlow instead of Franklin or ZMerrett. Had Zorko played Rd1, I would not have had Barlow. Deep down we all knew it wasn’t the brightest decision.
*Not taking Goldys 124 as (C) Rd1 and rolled the dice with Fyfe.

  22. I’m going to blame the Supercoach App for this one.
Prior to Rd 1 I had K Collins as Def 7 and noticed he wasn’t names so on my phone on the app i swapped to M Adams. Turns out even though I hit confirm it didn’t work and ended up getting a 0 when Hartley didn’t play and had Collins (EMG) and Broad on the bench. Cost me 85points and a trade I shouldn’t have had to do! I was going to email and complain but oh well.

    Other notes:
*Not having any of the swans rookies prior to Rd 1
    *Having H Shaw
*Having Barlow and Martin instead of my gut; Franklin and Betts

  23. My errors are a combination of many of the above.

The reason? Trying to be too damn different and avoid mimicking the community team.

Seriously, how many “cardinal rules” have we all broken and sheep mentality errors have we made this year?

  24. Mine so bad I don’t want to talk about it. I go away every Easter and forget SuperCoach. In a drunken haze I thought I saw a silvangi named. He wasn’t and was stuck with him until I brought in Adams from the doggies

  25. My main concern now is if I make the obvious improvements I will end up with a clone of everyone else’s team but have wasted about eight trades to get there.
Otherwise I trust the players I originally picked to eventually come good before their value has dropped too much.

  26. Last min choices of
Jacobs over nic nat cause i convinced myself that jacobs would be waaay more consistent than Nic nat who will be up and down (how pathetic has Jacobs been?? playing like a used tissue this year)
    Bartel over Gibbo….

Barlow, Wines, Rocky and Sloan all choices that I am regretting…. sticking with Sloan and Wines. But Wines is on thin ice!

  27. Rocky instead of Ablett.

Barlow instead of Zerrett (would still have skipped Zorko’s round 1 miss)

Lonergan instead of starting with JJ.

    Graham instead of Wright.

Tossed up or championed all of them in the preseason too.

    1. Man that’s gotta hurt early on in the season. Reminds me when I had the big C on Wines last year in a Hail Mary move and he came off after scoring 20+ odd…

  28. Suffered fomo in getting shaw and lonergan at the start of the year. Regretting both at the minute

Worst call yet was going against the thumbs last week picking Duncan over Zaharakis. Hope this decision comes good in the long run though not the way zaha is playing (or Duncan!)

  29. Where to start? I’m currently sitting at 45K in the rankings on the back of the following mistakes:
    – Completely ignoring my own research and line-up after Rd1 teams were announced.
    – Having no faith in the rookies that were named early on. So my original GnR line-up resembled more mid-price madness in the end.
    – If I took Parish & Oliver ahead of Anderson & Simpkin, it would’ve saved me two trades already.
    – Going with the crowd on Barlow but not with Hall.
    – Cutting Dangerfield to make way for Sheridan & Lonergan (I get sick just thinking of that) because I refused to pay over $500k for a DEF.

Going to be a long season for Team Schwarz………

  30. In the main league we all have regrets of things that didn’t work for one reason or another, me included. eg Shaw, Lonegan, Rock, Crouch, Barlow!!

However, my big dumb decision came on in the Tech League on Sunday at my boys soccer (I know) game and only had my phone to keep tabs on the score. Noticed I was down by a few points with exactly the same players left so decided (after vowing to keep Crouch) to whack in Aaron Young, the only person I could afford. Duly did the trade only to find that Crouch was on the bench and Keays was on the field,Duhh. Couldn’t even put the “E” as Menadue already owned it and was accounted for. Great trade for a donut!!

  31. My early season lesson is don’t go to the first game of the round.

Pre round 1 my team consisted of Hartley and KK on field. Then at team selection comes along and neither are named, and there is no rookie to replace Hartley. I tried to get in Weitering who I didn’t already have but my phone wouldn’t let me trade him in on the app so I missed him.

Instead, i changed my team structure which resulted in bringing in Lonergan and Sheridan (for the rookie-premo option). That has backfired.

Also currently regretting stating Rocky and crouch. Should have started B ken over Crouch but I was worried about having him on field – I eventually got B Ken in.

Other than that. Wines and Barlow have been poor picks.
