Back To The Futures – Cox Plate

Written by Schwarzwalder on October 20 2020

I’m hoping there’s someone out there that followed my advice and got on Verry Elleegant early for the Caulfield Cup……..Maybe even someone that backed the quinella with my 2nd pick Anthony Van Dyck.  Or am I just wishful thinking? 😉

Just the one tip for Cox Plate Day and that is to ‘lay’ Russian Camelot.  It looks like we may have gotten ahead of ourselves with this horse.  The racing public is always desperately searching for the ‘next big thing’ and we landed on Russian Camelot.  The horse does a lot wrong however and now he’s drawn the car park for the Cox Plate.  Not only that, he’ll have to contend with some of the strongest Internationals that have gathered at Moonee Valley in recent years.  Add to that the poor form of jockey Damien Oliver (despite his recent Breasley Medal) and the Russian looks extremely vulnerable, especially at $4.80, way unders!  Back against him with confidence……..

FUTURES BETTING

Skyward – Another of the Internationals visiting for the Melbourne Cup.  Running in the Geelong Cup on Wednesday and will need to win to qualify for the big one in November.  Has form around Anthony Van Dyck and Stradivarius at his latest run and is still at $41 for the Melb Cup…….

Good luck, Coaches!

    1. 5th beaten 2.4L 4th/3rd in the run. close enough to winner on turn but no match. battled away. sound run.

Stewards report race 7 Geelong Cup.
“Skyward (FR) Underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival on course and was passed fit to race. Began awkwardly. Rider William Pike reported the horse travelled well rounding the home turn, however failed to respond to his riding in the straight. A post‑race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Stewards will follow up with the stable.”

    2. Pike gave it a great ride in transit behind eventual winner, Steel Prince. Just couldn’t quicken with them on the turn….. Kept whacking away one-paced to the line. Unfortunately he won’t be winning any Cups for us this time round. Went for a bit of value and it didn’t pay off…….
