Bye/Trading Strategy 2012

Written by Motts on May 2 2012

Are you starting to factor in the byes in Rounds 11, 12, and 13 when making decisions about who to flick and who to bring in to your team?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

  1. Trying to get cover for the first 2 byes and will be taking a dive in Rd.13. This seems to be a popular theory and if the majority of coaches go this way it wont hurt too bad, but if I’m up against someone who is not doing this, oh well, so I lose a game. Hopefully this wont make too much difference in the grander scheme of things, as far as a league win goes anyway.

  2. How many trades are people willing to make to ensure they don’t end up with too many donuts throughout the bye rounds or will you just suck it up and only trade based on week by week injuries/bad form?

Thinking can limit bye round damage by using about 8 trades between now and then.

  3. Here is my secret for the Byes….Close your eyes and they will go away. According to the strict rules of the Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, if you can’t see them then they can’t see you. I’m gunna close my eyes reeeeeaaaaaly tight otherwise it is gunna get really ugly.

  4. Hard enough to get a full side on the park for this round

I’ll keep an eye on how many players I have for each bye, but I’m building a side for the finals, don’t mind if I lose a bye round

  5. I fully expect any bye strategy plans to be thrown out the window, just like my “no sideways trades”, “no mid price players” and “save my trades” policies

  6. I’m thinking we should get a petition to Supercoach and bring back the extra bench players

  7. Duck

Nice graphic on who’s got the byes when but aren’t they in rd’s 11,12,13 not 12,13,14?

  8. Put a heap of thinking into it over the off season and I think I am almost set for the byes…. apart from ablett and fyfes injury and porpas late withdrawl last week all seems to be going to plan.

B: Lake Bugg / Heppell Broughton / Goddard Deledio /
    Tomlinson Clarke Morris

M: Boyd McDonald / Pendles Selwood / Murphy Hayes
    Shiel Magner

    R: Giles / Sandi / Kreuzer
    Big O

F: Dangerfield Porplyzia / Sidebottom Christensen / Franklin Martin
    Treloar Smedts Hall

Would love to hear your thoughts on my approach…
I also have 20 trades remaining with only little in the kitty

  9. Taking a dive in Round 12, both because I initially had more players from those teams and because those teams (Geelong, Collingwood, Fremantle, Sydney, Hawthorn, Essendon) have more attractive premiums than the teams bye-ing it up in R11 & 13.

Malceski and Mitchell to come in over the next two weeks to go with Kennedy, Selwood, Pendles, Barlow, Buddy, etc. All R12 bye guys, and all players you’d probably want in your team anyway.

  10. No plan, just going to work out what to do when the time comes, haven’t had any donuts yet, so if I get a few during the byes it won’t fuss me so much as many people have already had some over the last few weeks. It’s hard to know what to do now with many players being upgraded by then and your side changing a fair bit, obviously I will make a few trades during the bye rounds to minimize donuts and stuff but I’m not going in with a specific ‘strategy’

  11. Nope – hard enough as it is to make good picks. Injuries will continue to be Hell. What happens during the byes stays during the byes …
