Charity Golf

Here at SCTHQ we’re all about supporting good causes and if you can have a bit of fun in the process then all the better.

I met a bloke the other night who used to write for DT Talk under the name of Cousins Coke n Ice. He’s running a golf day in February at Huntingdale to support those affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philipines. I’ll let him explain it….

“In 2011 I set up and hosted a Charity 20/20 cricket match and concert to raise funds for the victims of the QLD floods. In the 2 week period it took to set that up and host it, we raised $13,400 that was donated to the Red Cross to assist those victims.

This was probably the most rewarding experience I have ever been a part of. The generosity of everyone involved on the day was extraordinary, and everyone involved definitely felt as if they made a difference.

After a nearly 3 year lay off, We have brought back to life United We Stand to do it all again for another worthy cause. To raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Did you know that at its peak on November 7, Typhoon Haiyan reached speeds of 315kms per hour, wiping out millions of homes and claiming the lives of 6018 people, with a further 27,022 being injured and still another 1779 still classed as missing? In total, it is estimated that there has been $5.8 Billion US worth of damage done to The Philippines, Micronesia, Southern China and Vietnam.

This is obviously a large number, and one that sounds daunting to pretty much everyone. But we can make a difference. Every dollar we raise will be donated to the effort in helping re build these beautiful countries. Sitting on our hands and hoping that everyone else will make the difference is not the mind set that we as humans should be striving for. Your donation in any way shape or form to assist us will make a difference.

I email you today in hope that you will consider assisting with a Charity Golf Day I am holding to help raise funds for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. It does not have to be an actual cash donation. Services of some sort, auction items, printing, Raffle prizes, anything at all would help me out would be fantastic.

The actual golf day is a cracker of an event that we have managed to put together. We have exclusive use of Huntingdale Golf Course, one of Australia’s great courses and the spiritual home of the Australian Masters. This is a very private and exclusive course, you can’t just rock up and play on it, it’s a very rare opportunity indeed for any of you golf nuts out there!

We have also managed to secure airtime on SEN 1116 (sports radio station) with 20-30 advertisements that is worth $6000+. This will directly benefit the naming rights sponsor and platinum partners as outlined in the attached brochure.

In addition to this, there will be breakfast supplied, all on course drinks (including beer and soft drink), lunch, musical entertainment and a sports panel consisting of ex Australian Fast Bowler Rodney Hogg and SEN personality Mark Allen. We are still working on other little surprises also! This promises to be a great day for a great cause!

If golf isn’t your thing, feel free to consider assisting in some other way! Anyone who assists will be acknowledged in the guide for the day as well as our website. Even a cash donation is fine as we are authorised to collect on behalf of the Red Cross and organise a tax invoice for tax purposes.

I played Huntingdale earlier this year and set a new course record, tore the course a new one, played in more sand than I had throughout my entire childhood. But if you love your golf and you rise to a challenge its an absolute must to play.

Take a tour of the course here (the par 3 12th was a personal favourite).
