Cow Talk – Round 20

Written by Father Dougal on August 2 2017

Small or Far Away, Father Dougal on Cows

Cow, what are these cows of which you speak? I remember them from back in the past where we cared about them… I think…something like that.

As with the rookie review, less detail will be showing up as rookies and cows matter less and less. Debating when to wrap things up for this season.

Standard bits

When looking at projections, remember that a score over or under a player’s current average will affect not just the next week but the ones after it since their average, and thus the projections, will move along with the current week. If you think their current average is not a good predictor of future performance, take that into account when you plan.

Also, don’t forget that any cow is capable of a shock high or low score. Extra so if they have had one in the past. Every week I am reminded how these numbers are just a help in making decisions, and not predictions of what will actually happen.

This season I am including past weeks and more weeks ahead. After spending all that time on growth patterns it would be silly not to include the data needed to see them! I have also put historical numbers in gray, so it is easy to see projections vs reality.

Defenders

Scharenberg – Played, did well! Possible source of cash, if you can spare a trade to get it out.

Ryan– Well, he sure came back strong after his week off. Looks like an ok backup, but scores likely to vary a lot week to week.

Midfielders

Witherden – A ton again, looks like a fine D5 or D6. Well, in my case M7, since injuries and suspensions.

Darcy – Keeps up being a cow displaced in time to the wrong part of the season. But, great backup still.

Forwards

Parsons – Whoo hoo, 51!  Well, yeah, better than 30s. He is somehow still playing for the Cats and for many of us. If Kreuzer is out he will probably be my F6. Argh…..

Greenwood – More cash to come, if you can afford to lose his points and fwd/mid status! Well, last week you might have been able to miss his points. Still, darn solid option. Was just as good as Parsons, and vice versa!

Other cow stuff:  The hotel California is turning into the roach motel California. Any cow who comes is now is almost certain to never leave. Like this bit of Cow Talk that was here last week. Seems to be stuck….

Other non-cow stuff: Like sands through an hourglass, so go our trades…..

Did I miss someone? Say so in the comments, and I’ll see what I can do.

Remember the Craggy Island guarantee, all predictions wrong or double your money back!

  1. Thank you Father D.

You have been a great help this year.

On reflection, your sage advice on the carnage thats happening right now seems quite prophetic.

    Winter is here!

  2. Great stuff Father Dougal. I might not have enough trades to cull any more Cows but your articles are still interesting to read!

Likewise I’m in the Witherden as M7-M8 camp with Danger out.
