Defensive Reinforcements

Written by MJ on June 17 2015

Four of the top 10 traded in players this week make up our defensive ranks, with a clear indication that our backlines are in most dire need of surgery at the moment, particularly with rookies, Saad, McKenzie and Brown running into their byes. It’s been an extremely difficult position to nail down a consistent back 6, and I daresay no team in the competition would have it perfectly spot on so far. We’d love to hear it if you do!

Do you agree with the masses on these defensive trade-ins this week?

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment. Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment. Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment. Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

What’s your ideal back 6?

  1. Finishing mine off this week and pretty happy with it…. Hard position to master this year. Will likely add Brodie or laird.
    Currently have:

Shaw, McDonald, Yeo, Oxley, Newnes, __________ (hamling, Pearce).

  2. Surely all of them are legitimate trade-ins. Just depends on your circumstances as to which ones fit best. I can see arguments for all.

  3. A different perspective.
Is it worth considering trading Brodie Smith out? Trading down to Hamling or upgrading to Simpson or Laird?
Smith has lost 150+ thousand dollars. Ave 76, 3R and 5R ave 52. Breakeven 118. Concussed, missed 2. Scores have obviously been effected by the concussions.
Aside from his first 2 games he has been ineffective in SuperCoach.
Saad and Oxley have both had better seasons.
Do we think Smith can increase his output and be a keeper? I’ve kept the faith but it is wavering.

  4. I’m not convinced by smith at all. He hasn’t looked great since he got knocked out in round 3. I’ve had him from the start and Sloane via Ablett. I’m hoping that my patience will pay off. I couldn’t justify trading smith after he lost so much value

  5. bachar houli is about to enter ramadan. for those who don’t know its a muslim practice which involved fasting during the day. Ramadan goes for a month, ends mid july this time i think. so i doubt whether he’ll be playing as strongly as we’ve seen before.

Didn’t see this pointed out and one of my friend’s just reminded me of it.

  6. I was going to get 2 of them, now thanks to Mumford and Clark I’m getting none.

I’m never planning for the byes again.

  7. Dale Morris is potentially back this week. With Michael Talia in the VFL as well, it could be risky to trade Hamling in.

  8. Amongst all the outs and concerns there is one reason to celebrate.
This is definitely, without a doubt the last game for Hertier Lumumba in my team. I’m using him for the bye rounds and then he’s gone marked ‘never again.”
