Observations:

Averages 110+ against 7 teams since 2017 (Carl, Coll, GC, NM, Port, WC and WB) and plays 4 of them pre-bye and 6 of them post bye in 2019.

8 games pre-bye at Adelaide Oval where Crouch has averaged 107.05 from 22 with 7/22 below 100, 8/22 120+ and 109 from 16 in AO Wins with 4/16 below 100, 7/16 120+.

4 games post bye at AO in 2019.

6.3 win/loss differential

21.71 post bye/pre-bye differential with a pre-bye avg below 100 and a post bye avg exceeding 109 in both seasons.

One of the highest accumulators of the ball over the past 2 seasons albeit on a lower time on ground as evident by his 32 to 33 disposal avg on approximately a TOG of 75 to 77%. Due to his outside style and penchant to handball he is very dependent on amassing 32-35+ disposals to ensure a 100+ score and occasionally cannot convert his 30-35 disposal games to a 100-110 score.

Unless he can improve his contested numbers (tackles, contested possessions) and disposal efficiency it will be unlikely that he can reach a 112+ average and will likely hover around the 105-111 range. Crouch is slightly discounted due to an injury affected 51 in Rd2 which was only his 2nd score below 85 since RD8 2017 and his 2nd for the season and should benefit from R Sloane and B Crouch returning from injury.

Verdict: Consider for M3-M5.

  1. Geez Adam, love this. The stats and the synopsis is outstanding. Good get for an M5. Really helps with deciding where to pick your lock and loads premiums.

  2. Brilliant stuff Adam. While I know he’s discounted, he also tends to have a better back half than front for me. I can’t afford to start any injury-prone players after last year, so he has to be a watch and act for me.
Really looking forward to reading through this series … thanks again.

  5. From rounds 18-22, Crouch avg 118 ppg. Really only needs to tighten up his disposal efficiency and he’s a lock.

  6. By the way, is there any reason he spends so little time on ground as opposed to other elite mids? Is his tank not very good or is it just Adelaide’s game plan?

  7. Good work Adam. Given the pre-bye/post-bye differential he is the perfect upgrade target. Was considering starting him but now will definitely wait until the byes. Cheers and thanks…M.

  8. Well I had Crouch all locked away at M4, and now I have to start all over again, thanks Adam!
Just kidding, but I am having to reassess now. Last year there were extenuating circumstances to his slow start (hamstring), but then he did finish much better in 2017 and 2016 too. I’ll have to monitor his JLT series closely.

Great work on the stats by the way – very astute observations.
