Game Chat – Carlton v Greater Western Sydney

Written by Father Dougal on August 5 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: Etihad Stadium, Sunday, August 5, 1.10pm AEST

SUMMARY

Carlton is coming off its second victory for the season but faces a different challenge altogether when it hosts Greater Western Sydney at Etihad Stadium on Sunday. The Giants are among the most in-form teams in the competition, winning seven of their last eight games. The visitors will also welcome back Jeremy Cameron, who has served his five-match suspension and will be raring to go. The return of Josh Kelly and Toby Greene has reinvigorated Leon Cameron’s side, which is suddenly back in premiership contention. Patrick Cripps has been in superb form and was again brilliant last week but will have his hands full dealing with one of the deepest midfield groups in the competition. Brett Deledio’s impact since returning adds another layer of quality that Carlton will have to deal with at Etihad Stadium, making a repeat of the side’s 2017 upset against GWS difficult to foresee.

LAST FIVE TIMES

Rd 12, 2017: Carlton 10.11 (71) d GWS 9.16 (70) at Etihad Stadium
Rd 14, 2016: GWS 18.19 (127) d Carlton 9.11 (65) at Spotless Stadium
Rd 22, 2015: GWS 20.12 (132) d Carlton 7.9 (51) at Spotless Stadium
Rd 7, 2015: GWS 19.21 (135) d Carlton 9.3 (57) at Etihad Stadium
Rd 14, 2014: GWS 15.10 (100) d Carlton 14.8 (92) at Spotless Stadium

FD’s Tip: GWS by 30 points.

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

  2. Can someone tell me what has happened to Toby Greene. Was scoring well earlier in the season as well as last year and is now struggling to get a touch every quarter.

  3. I think Kelly is proving to be just the POD I needed in those tight finals and more importantly, a big boost for my overall.

  4. Actually went Kennedy to loophole, both Mid and Def with J Smith, but had the option (forced) to send T Mac forward through Keefe and use Kennedy in Def this week…. he’s running at 100% DE at the moment, which has really inflated his score..

  5. Feeling very sorry for Lids. Just hope his calf isn’t SO bad as to not make it back for the grannie against his old mates.
    What a story that’d be 🙂

  8. Honestly Kelly is a downhill skier. Only scores well against poor sides. And no I’m not salty because I don’t own him

  9. I am not sure how I feel about these monster SC scores coming so readily. One match/player can decide a weekend and I do not feel that is beneficial for the overall game/comp.

    1. Is a monster score any different to when a premo gets KO’d at the start of a game?

If the AFL really want to improve the comp, boot out the bottom 4 teams by round 15 and then sweepstakes their players to the remaining 14. That would make the last 8 rounds fascinating!!
