Game Chat – Carlton vs Melbourne

Written by Thommo on June 13 2020

Where and when: Marvel Stadium, Saturday 13th June at 4:35pm

Last time they met: Melbourne 15.15 (105) def Carlton 15.10 (100) at Marvel.

What it means for Carlton: At some stage, the Blues just have to start winning games. Members and fans will only put up with honourable losses for so long!

What it means for Melbourne: After a massive fall from grace in 2019, Melbourne needs to find that 2018 form quickly. They just can’t afford to lose to the Blues this week and start the season 0-2 (again).

Thommo Watch: I know you are sick of hearing about the Hawks, but I will be watching big Marc Pittonet as he takes on the best in the game.

Thommo’s Tip: With no confidence, Dees by 6 points

  1. Not sure whether to field McInerney or Bennel at M8. Leaning towards Bennel. Who should I choose??
    T/U: McInerney
    T/D: Bennel

  2. Is Gawn a realistic decent captains choice this game? Flirted with Neale, but really thought Freo might try and shut him down

    T/u – Gawn
T/D – play it safe with Grundy

  3. Big one for me here. Got C Gawn, Petracca, Cripps and Doc. Hoping they can combine for 600+ SC. Gonna need Gawn to absolutely BODY a Kreuzer-less Carlton.

    1. Hey GB
      Welcome back to supercoach.
I have all those players Accept No Gawn but captain utilised on Neale.
Late move of bringing in Young on field for Green via Dpp could be costly for me as starchevich stranded on bench . Let’s hope Rivers continue his form as have him as E and Oliver as against you GB In early birds Comp

      1. Hey, P.

Yeah, Oliver and Rivers look to be serving you well. Nicely done. Gonna need Gawn to eclipse Neale if I want to catch you. Good luck!

  4. Rolled the dice on Bennell, might live to regret that. Hopefully he can snag a couple of goals up forward.

    Rivers is looking the goods

      1. Well, as far as bad news goes, that’s not too bad. Looked like it could have been a lot worse.

  5. Well, this is going well…

Getting smashed in clearances, ball movement, and pressure. Things are going to get very ugly very quickly if we don’t turn that around ASAP.

    1. Well, that’s a bit better. Keep that up for the second half and we’re still half a chance.

  6. Reckon this week will have many people cursing trading in Viney, and trading out Gawn….. the later for the second year in a row.

    1. Charlie Curnow will be back next year – that should do it. Doesn’t help for 2020, but still.

  7. Gawn is winning just about all the taps / hitouts, BUT Blues are now stealing all of them and his scoring has stopped / suffered as not getting points for his efforts / losing points … his mids need to bloody well get their hands on the ball!!

  8. Need my POD of Langdon to pick it up a bit in this 2nd half. 9 possies with 200 metres gained, just 1 mark and 0 tackles to go with it.

  10. curnow wearing Viney like a glove sucks … why doesn’t he move to Oliver and do some better work there???? (says a non Oliver owner *wink*)!!

      1. Nice Sal – I dropped Dunks for Viney for the cash grab … certainly didn’t expect Viney to be tagged though

Gawn was on target for 200 … but the Blues have woken up and are reading his taps better than his own mids … hoping he gets to 160 still as he is my C

  11. Tossed up between giving the C to Cripps and Oliver before they game. Ended up going with Cripps. 83 to 44 at half-time says I probably made the wrong decision, but if Cripps can get to 120+ by the end of the match, I’ll be happy enough.

      1. did you copy my late move of Gawn to C GD??? Damn you … was hoping that would let me get some back on you!

You’ve got a decent looking side there mate. I had planned on Doedee in as well, but have been too slow on working out other trades to not lose Starcevich’s score (with BZT) … just not organised enough for the start back … been so busy with work and then tied up last night and Thursday night with home stuff … bugger … needed to have planned options A … and then B for the Starcevich type scenario …

        1. Nope, always had the C on Gawn. Maybe the gameday display didn’t update from R1?

Ah, cheers. You’re looking formidable as well. Missing Doedee this week was worked out alright for you, get Starcevich’s 99 on the park – not to worry.

          1. yeah mate – i know, i was being a bit cheeky! I actually was more watching my match up with Father in the Contribs league and left it late to go Maxxie there – he’s gone on Macrae …

You still have me well covered though with the players you have left … Petracca helped you nicely

      1. Sadly, I kept Grundy. Was so tempted to switch to Neale. A couple of brown stains in pickett and wingard will hold me back.

      1. Aaargh….I didn’t get Starcevich…..he was in one of my earlier drafts. Only got Rivers. Starcevich will still be juicy enough to get this week.

      1. Trying to figure out a way to get him in at R3, but I don’t see how I can rustle up 100k. Hmm.

    1. Those who ignore history are doomed to regret it. This is two years in a row that people jumped off after 1 round. Anyone know how many traded him out ? Just wish he’d played b4 Grundy so I could have the v on him.

  14. I can accept that from Langdon as he showed promising signs. 23 possies and spent 98% TOG. When the Dees play better sides I assume he’ll get more points from off half back
