Game Chat – Collingwood v Western Bulldogs

Written by Thommo on March 24 2017

Venue: MCG at 7:50pm AEST

Last Time They Met: R21, 2016, Western Bulldogs 14.11 (95) d Collingwood 14.8 (92) at Etihad Stadium

Game notes: As much as the Bulldogs insist they are as hungry as ever after their phenomenal premiership, it’ll be interesting to gauge their motivation levels in what should be an entertaining clash between what Champion Data rates as two of the top-three midfields in the AFL. Adding further edge to the contest, it will be new Bulldogs forward Travis Cloke’s first game against his former club. The Dogs will also be excited by the inclusion of skipper Bob Murphy after a knee reconstruction and forward Stewart Crameri after a season-long doping suspension. Meanwhile, the Pies are desperate for an early scalp after missing the finals in each of the past three seasons and will welcome some newcomers of their own, the candidates including ex-Docker Chris Mayne, former Giant Will Hoskin-Elliott, ex-Demon Lynden Dunn and former Sun Henry Schade.

Thommo’s Tip: Western Bulldogs by 12 points.

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

  2. Folks, not sure of the best thread (figure more looking here than others!!), but who are the better rookie options now with sunday teams out?

TU Simpkins (over power duo) and Hibberd (in D in place of no EVW)
TD Power Duo (houston, Eddy) Barrett in M

Any comments greatly appreciated … have Florent and Butler in Fwd F5 & 6 already and Pickett Parfitt and Barret on mids bench currently!

    Thanks in advance!!

    1. Flip of a coin really with all those names. Barrett should see good game time, you’d think with North seemingly rebuilding and Hibberd’s ability to get possessions that should translate to some good scores and prices rises. Are Port rebuilding or stuck in the midzone? That might affect whether they go with more rookies. A lot of unknown quantities, but if I had to go on gut I’d say Barrett and Hibberd have the best chance to play regular and make the most money of those names.

  3. Righto – let’s go – game 2.

Some final comments before the game:

Pizza delivery booked for the quarter time break.

Wouldn’t surprise me if the Pies cause an upset here.

Got the big VC on Treloar….let’s see if he can repay the faith….

Will be a very busy weekend with tidying up the rookies and final team….have a great weekend coaches!

      1. Whatever happened to asking the guy from the guys that make the game some questions? Did the HS muzzle him or did I miss the article?

  5. How’s this, I paid for an international member with GFC for all the footy coverage live, just it will take 8-10 days to process… ffs.

Hopefully they send me the login details by Sunday’s game…

  6. The Pies have won so much of the ball but just can’t find a way to score. Bucks needs to work on his forward line!

If you trade someone out who hasn’t played this round yet does that use 1 of your 30 trades?

  9. Don’t know what game champion data are watching, I’m live at the game and Trealoar been dominant. This’ll be my last year for SC if this sort of thing carries on.

  10. On HS website, they have SC leaders:

    1. Surely the system is not working. Last night Marchbank’s score was adjusted by 30 points post game so probably best not to sweat on the scores.

      8

      1
    2. Treloar on 112 on Fantasy so looks like SC is having trouble with stats. Draftstars tweeted there’s a problem with Champion Data but I’m not sure because Fantasy uses the same data.

      1. Fantasy/Dreamteam can easily be calculated in real time because it doesn’t do any scaling etc. – just each stat multiplied by the number of points it is worth.

  11. I’m after some advice. Team is as follows

BACK: Shaw, Adams, Laird, Marchbank, Hampton, Stewart (Smith, Otten)

MID: Danger, Hannebery, Treloar, Bontempelli, Fyfe, Beams, Swallow, Florent (Hibberd, Barrett, Powell-Pepper)

    RUCK: Sandi, Witts

FORWARD: Dalhaus, Macrae, Roughie, Nankervis, Taranto, Turner (Butler, Eddy)

I have $250,000 in the bank, and I’m beginning to wonder how lucid I was when I chose my ruck setup!

    Should I;
T/U Downgrade Swallow to another rookie and bring in the big man Max Gawn
T/D Upgrade Florent to O’Meara and run the gauntlet with a super strong midfield and two very risky ruckmen.

    1. Apologies for posting this on the wrong thread. I thought I was in Rate My Team (the stress is getting to me already!). Have just re-posted into the appropriate forum.

    2. I’d lean for the keep Swallow, upgrade to O’meara combo for money making potential and superior JS as far as Florent goes. If it all goes wrong you can corrective to big Max or make him a priority upgrade asap

And after last night someone has to tell them Armfield’s surname.

  13. Those scores are an absolute joke, Brodie would have had to have tonned up and. T Boyd was way better than 30 he was very influential.

      1. Agreed Sodes. I don’t have him but Murphy was a big player in this match and lifted his team whenever they needed it. 50 points does not tell of his influence. Hiss 22 touches counted.

        3

  14. Bontempelli looking fine – not starting forward as some had suggested. Another one I should have left in my team.

  15. Pendles is the master, still only early days but Pendles disposal efficiency is in the super elite, held cash in reserve and I will up grading to him soon.

  16. Why is Bont score better than Sidebottom?

    Side = 117
    Bont = 120

    Side 17k + 18 hb + 4m +3 tkls + 2goals + 9 contest + 6 clear @82%
    Bont 8k + 14hb + 3m + 4 tks + 2 goals + 12 contest + 1 clear @ 81%

    6
      1. I am happy as I have Bont in my side but still seems unjust.

Side also > Bont with metres gained 446 v 282 whilst score involvements went slightly Bont way 8 v 7

        2

        1. I haven’t looked at all the stuff they measure but at least one of Bont goals were kicked at crucial times, late in the 2nd or early in the third qtr to swing the momentum the Dogs way.

And no I don’t have either the Bont or Sidey!

Anyone catch the media in the rooms lining up to get a quick word with the Bont including BT & Stevo after the game?

          1

          0
    1. No wonder it’s so bloody hard to pick your team. Clearly there must be more to it but to the average punter looking at those stats Sidebottom should be way ahead.

  17. I went to put Pendles back in only to realise the East still has daylight savings and we don’t…why did I take him out ffs

    2

    1. Good call Twitch I’m a non-owner but could be a very canny selection. Don’t have Howe either but I admit he had a stormer of a 2nd half. Bont, Pendles and JJ the most influential players on the ground so many score involvements.

      3

  18. Dear Bucks, please keep Cox out of the ruck, it messes with Grundys scoring and the teams centre clearance momentum.

    thank you

  19. What a snow job on the Pies from the Umpires, fair dinkum nearly head butted mi Mum, complete BS, the last one was Darcy’s mark.

    1. I agree. How the Bulldogs got one more free than Collingwood should be the first item on the next Commission meeting.
Talk about costing a side the game !!

      1

      7
      1. Its never about the number, its where they are paid and all the ones that are not paid in front of goal. The rules allow the umps to control the result. The only blight on this wonderful game! Bulldogs deserved the win.

        3

        3
  20. One of the biggest disappointments for me at the game , was at the 26 min mark of the final Qtr. The pies are 14 pts behind and the pricks show a countdown clock on the fence of less than 2 min to go, ruined it for me.

  21. VC on Pendles. Butler on bench in FWD.
    Had all playing rookies.
Is it with trading Houston to bring in a non playing FWD/MID swinger to capitalise?

  22. In case you’re worried about Grundy’s score – don’t forget the doggies were one of the best teams at negating a ruckmans score (with all those sharked hitouts)

    2

    0
    1. Not sure I agree tonight. Doggies got smashed in the clearances for once – they didn’t shark the ball nearly as much as they normally would. Grundy just didnt get as much of a chance with Cox spending time in the middle.

  23. Dear Pendles. Thanks for being a sly dog last JLT and making your self a somewhat of a POD. Regards, happy owner.
