Game Chat – Fremantle v GWS

Written by Father Dougal on March 28 2021

Where and when: 6:10 pm Today at Optus Stadium

What it means for the Dockers:  Bouncing back after a round 1 loss would be great. They are probably not a finals team, but If they are they need to be able to beat a struggling GWS. And nobody wants to start 0-2

What it means for the Giants: Are they a finals team? If they are, then they should be able to beat teams like Fremantle. Also, they don;t want to start 0-2. Starting 0-2 implies a lack of finals.

Supercoach Watch:

Dockers:  Fyfe, H Young, Ryan, Cerra, Serong, Brayshaw

Giants: Kelly, Taranto, Bruhn, Green(e)

Father Dougal’s Watch: All eyes  on Flynn! Can he back it up? Not a 140, but a 90? A 110? What will he do this week?

Father Dougal’s Tip:  It is hard to pick the away team and Optus, aaaaand I just don’t want to. For no good reason, I feel like the dockers will somehow pull it out vs the Giants. That sounds like crazy talk, but, well. Dockers by 1.

    1. He’s going to need a big second half.

I need 355 from brayshaw, Ryan and Flynn. Might get close, but probably not

  1. This goal kicking is a horror show!
    5 goals 12
    1 goal 9
GWS have been horrible and shouldn’t even be in this game

    1. They will be looking into whether Reid was bracing or made a bump. He was watching the ball and it was more Fyfe had more of the momentum

  2. A few years ago everyone was wondering how many flags in a row gws would win. With all the departures they are very middle of the road now!

    1. Nice, PW.

Brayshaw my first upgrade target in the middle, just finds heaps of it. Still needs to develop his CP and clearance work, but that will come.

  3. Scaling system really shows how bad it works with Nat Fyfe’s score continuing to increase in this last quarter, despite not even playing … has gone up from about 80-82 to 92 right now … it’s one of the biggest disappointments of the whole scoring system and product for me.

Genuine points that should go to other players that have actually earnt the stats … now 93 … now back to 92 … will see if it gets decreased further before the make it all final

    1. It would be due to the last quarter not meaning much in the game as Freo were in a comfortable position and had the game almost won.
I can agree that the scaling was used poorly and I have a feeling it was due to it being a well known player in Fyfe that he got more points. If that was a more unknown player he unsurprisingly would have gained nothing I feel

      1. Do captains or preselected players of each team get scaled up no matter what if they meet they’re minimum possession or goals? It has to be something like that!

        1. no – it’s their “magical secret product” that allows this to occur – and basically rewards players who score well early in matches, even if they do little later.

For me, it really shows how poor it is when they continue to reward a player who didn’t even play the last quarter, yet still get increased in their score … no matter what their system is, that single factor alone just should not occur or be allowed and they should remove those points and leave them where they are when they finish the match …

you cannot say it is a fair or just system, when players get scores for not even playing or being on the field.

They would have a far better and less subjective product, that allows all players (SC) to be informed and make informed decisions, if they simply scored exactly what a players does to earn, or lose points … and no maximum points for a match …
