Game Chat – Geelong vs Gold Coast

Written by Thommo on July 4 2020

Where and when: Kardinia Park, Saturday 4th July at 4:35pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Rd 10, 2019: Geelong 13.13 (91) def Gold Coast 9.10 (64) at Metricon Stadium.

What it means for Geelong: Geelong were expected to dominate from their Geelong Hub but instead they find themselves in sixth position with 2 wins and 2 losses and facing the red-hot Gold Coast Suns. Considering they will soon be entering an interstate hub, the Cats will need to win this one.

What it means for the Suns: The Suns have performed at a higher level than anyone expected and will consider themselves good enough to win anywhere. That said, there are few external expectations on the Suns so an away trip against Geelong is a free hit to try and cause an upset. Can the red wave roll over the Cats?

Supercoach Watch: Is anybody not watching Matty Rowell? He’s so good I’ve almost forgotten that Walsh guy from Carlton. For Geelong, Dangerfield showed some signs of his old self last week and he will have entered a few SC midfields this week.

Thommo’s Watch: Look, I’ll raise my hand and admit that I detest Joel Selwood (300 games) and I don’t like Gary Ablett Jnr (350 games) much but you have to respect what they have both achieved in their milestone games.

Thommo’s Tip: Geelong just, let’s say 5 points.

    1. Good stuff. I just jumped onto the site to ask the exact same question. I’m going Budarick though. He’s had far more game time. Sturt is coming back into the squad. Im also hoping Budarick sees it plenty down back against the Cats. Not much of muchness I reckon.

    1. Gone for the rest of today. Not hopeful for the next month or so. Best case is he doesn’t need surgery and can come back in 4-6.

      Signed, Dr Chillo

  1. Rowell done for the day, but still no confirmation the extent or nature of the injury. Dislocation at the very least, you’d think.

Think the biggest loss is for the Suns, not our SC teams – all competitive SC players had him, whereas it’s hard to see who can match Rowell’s CP dominance and scoreboard ability.

  3. Man I gotta put this out there that GC are just about my favourite team to watch this season. I just love the way they have gone about their footy the last few weeks.

  4. I like Mark Howard as a caller but if he tells me once more that it’s Ablett’s 350th, Selwood’d 300th and that Rowell went off in the first quarter with a shoulder injury I will put my foot through the TV.

    1. Also how the hell do his fellow commentators not grab him in the breaks between quarters and point out that it’s MenEgola, NOT MeneNgola…..
      Not that bloody hard Howie.
Like his commentary though other than that. Haha

  5. Cmon Ablett kick a bloody goal.
Had 6 any time goal kickers And your the only one not to kick 1. Go play outta the goal square and quit going to the bench. It’s your 350th
