Game Chat – Geelong vs North Melbourne

Written by Thommo on June 9 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: GMHBA Stadium, Saturday June 9, 1.45pm AEST

SUMMARY
After breezing past a Gold Coast side that resembled witches hats at times last week, Geelong will get a true test of their standing against North Melbourne on Saturday. The Roos have gone from the 16th-ranked defensive side last year to now sit No.2 behind the Cats. Geelong’s ability to shut down opponents at GMHBA Stadium has improved in recent weeks, keeping Carlton and Greater Western Sydney to five and four goals. The Roos will take heart from Sydney’s final term at the venue in round six when they piled on seven goals against the Cats. Local boy Shaun Higgins is in career-best form, and his distribution alongside Roos teammates Ben Cunnington and Luke McDonald will be critical in supplying Ben Brown. Leading the Coleman Medal race, Brown’s presence will be a worry to Geelong’s undersized defence.

LAST FIVE TIMES
R2, 2017: Geelong 17.10 (112) d North Melbourne 17.9 (111) at Etihad Stadium
R12, 2016: Geelong 15.15 (105) d North Melbourne 12.2 (74) at Etihad Stadium
R15, 2015: North Melbourne 18.12 (120) d Geelong 11.13 (79) at Etihad Stadium

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we aren’t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they haven’t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

  1. No interest in this game. Why? Because I’m the idiot who didn’t bring in Danger and Ahern … yet.
Kinda regretting it after last night’s woeful scores

  3. The VFL score better not be an omen of things to come. For those that didn’t see the score it was 120 to 3pts at one point before we kicked the last 5 goals.

  4. Excited at what could come from a win today. Massive game ahead. We’ve always struggled against Danger and against Gaz. Now they’re together. Argh!!!!

  6. It hurts me as a contributor on this brilliant site to say this but, Higgins could be a viable POD in the back half of the season. Maybe more Draft relevant than Classic but it’s the Gaz vs Higgo show at the Cattery.

    1. RB, I regret to inform you that your status as “contributor” on the SCT website has been withdrawn as of 2.34pm this afternoon. We’d like to thank you for your service up until this point in time…………… 😉

    2. Been in my AFL fantasy draft all year. Mostly on bench despite some big scores. But very handy backup for sure

  7. Still the Gaz and Higgo show. There’s other guys doing okay but it’s Team Gaz that’s leading Team Higgo at 3/4 time.

  8. what is wrong with Danger this year? He has a real lack of possessions … and quite a few clangers today it seems … has his game changed? More forward? Less contested ball?
He’s being outscored by selwood who has the jacobs tag … very frustrating …

    1. and as I post that he scores a bit more … might have to keep giving him a spray!! Tight game it seems … wish we got it on the box up here in Brisvegas … just waiting for the “thriller” GWS v Suns to come on *sigh*

      1. On the upside, we may have to deal with a Suns game and a Lions game, but we usually get one more free to air game than the home of football.

    2. A lot more forward today. It’s a shame he’s so bloody good at it, it’s killing his usual output. On the plus side, at this rate he’s gonna have to be listed as a dpp MID/FWD next year!

  9. This was hard to watch….danger as Captain so this week well and truly is a write off

I’ll take it, but shouldn’t have VCd Gray that was a risk I didn’t need to take!

    1. His instructions seem pretty clear. Don’t tackle unless you absolutely have to, stay outside and distribute. He might stay on the park till the end.

  10. Danger vc score a tough decision given the round. Will Gawn and Grundy nullify each other…got Gawn.

  11. Not that influential to many but I’m playing someone with him. Anyone got an explanation for Buzza’s score? 28 DT and 56 SC with 6 frees against

      1. Likes turning 24 possessions into a crap score. Robbie Gray scored better with about two and a half handballs last night.

    1. I did the same Matt. ‘Upgraded’ Billings. This game does my head I some times. It is a marathon not a sprint, he will be better. #marathonnotsprint

  12. Afl.com.au report lists Menegola suffering a back injury. This might explain his low score in the second half. Anybody see the incident?
