Game Chat – Hawthorn v Port Adelaide

Written by Thommo on August 21 2015

Is everybody familiar with the old chestnut: A year is a long time in football?

Flash back to late 2014 when the draw is announced and footy fans cried “foul” that Port will play the Hawks at Etihad in Round 21. “It’s the Grand Final preview,” they all cried, “it should be at the MCG!”

Twelve months later the silence is deafening. Port won’t even feature in the top 8 and are making a valiant attempt to finish the year strongly while Hawthorn are storming home with 10 wins from their last 11 games. The media and wider football community has little interest in this game and it will be immediately forgotten unless Port manages to upset Hawthorn.

So can Port bounce out of the blocks as they did when last the teams met in Round 4 and serve up some Port Power football circa 2014 or will the 2015 version show up and allow the Hawks a comfortable victory?

Thommo’s tip: Hawthorn by 30 points.

  2. Just watching Port warming up. Such a talented list; always worried they could beat anyone on their day.
    Hopefully not today!

  5. Hodge might be in trouble for that hit on wingard. Had potential for serious injury with the goal post involved. The fact that wingard is ok should help him but that is what I think is wrong with the tribunal this year.

  8. Really felt like the commentating tonight was even more Hawthorn based than usual. Makes me think back to Fremantle vs Richmond earlier this year. The 7 commentary team needs to pull their finger out and call a spade a spade ala the Hodgey incident.

  9. Shocking score by my POD with MJ – Luke Hodge. What’s people’s thoughts on him missing at least 1 or 2 weeks?

Thumbs UP: Hodge is gone with your cash league & already slim chance of o/a

Thumbs DOWN: nothing in it. Was trying to use Wingard’s head to slow down & not hit the fence.

Ps, took Hawks on Friday night fav special, but more than covered bet with Port HT & FT @ $13.00. Tiny wager on Port by 39.5 + was looking ok early
