Game Chat – Port Adelaide V Essendon

Written by Thommo on April 8 2016

Venue: Adelaide Oval at 7:20pm

Last time: R17, 2015, Port Adelaide 20.9 (129) d Essendon 17.14 (116) at Etihad Stadium.

Best SC Scorers from last game (minus suspended players):

  • Port Adelaide: Wingard 105, Wines 105, Boak 98
  • Essendon: Z.Merrett 140, Goddard 117, Langford 105

In/Out:

Port Adelaide

  • In: Amon, Stewart, Byrne-Jones ($123,900 DEF)
  • Out: Howard (om.), Carlile (Wrist), Wingard (Ham)

Essendon

  • In/Out: No change!

Game Notes: We have learnt our first lesson for 2016: Essendon is not as bad as we thought. Or Melbourne is worse than we thought?

Either way, this is a no-win situation for the under-manned Port Adelaide: If they lose they’ll be classed as over-rated; if they just fall over the line they’ll also be widely criticized. And if they flog Essendon? The media will just say they expected the result and move on.

Watch for Robbie Gray to continue his stellar start to the year.

Thommo’s tip: Port Adelaide by 40 points.

While we do our best to update posts with end of quarter scores, we arenโ€™t always online so if you have access to the scores and see they havenโ€™t gone into the Comments section of this post, the Community would love it if you could help us out.

  3. I saw this comment on FB – too funny:

      1. Agreed, winning the hard balls but then misses with the handballs. Obviously trying to create something each time, but needs to spin out an kick it sometimes too!

Game pretty much over, by the looks of it. Hoping the bomb-jections can make a game of it.

    1. Agreed HH, he is my trade for Rocky and I’ve put the VC on him tonight… Hope he can keep it up.

    1. Wines is not as bad as his score seems, he just gave away 3 early free kicks and has forgotten how to kick the ball. 1 kick and 12 handpasses!

      1. I dunno Thommo. He only had 70% TOG so wondering if he is carrying some sort of an injury or just unfit.

Am certainly hoping he comes good as on current form there’s a few rookies outscoring him.

  10. T/U Take Robbie Gray’s 126 as C? (Will most likely get scaled up a little)

    or

T/D Ablett / Fyfe / Danger will score better than that

  11. I love Supercoach. BUT!!!! The scoring system sometimes leaves a lot to be desired. Anyone who thought Floggard deserved more points tonight than Robbie Gray knows Jack about footy!

  12. If Ablett gets 22 contested, 12 clearances and 2 goals they find a way to give him 180. I don’t even have Gray, but that’s a joke

  13. Happy with Zaha on the bang for buck scale. Gonna rake in some much needed coin.

Any news yet on Brouch’s hammy?
