Game Chat – Port Adelaide vs Essendon

Written by Thommo on September 12 2020

Where and When: Adelaide Oval , Saturday 12 September at 5:05pm AEST

Last time they met: Rd 20: Port Adelaide 19.12 (126) def Essendon 9.13 (67) at Marvel Stadium

Match Preview: All is not well at Windy Hill. The Bombers no longer have a match in hand and they find themselves over a game outside the top 8. They have also lost Hurley and Heppell (again) to injury and Hooker has been dropped. And now they find themselves facing the ladder-topping Port Power.

Every season we wait for the inevitable drop off by the Power but this season they look a different side. Most pundits have Richmond, Brisbane and Geelong ahead of Port Adelaide but it’s hard to see them dropping this one. Expect the Power to wrap up a top 2 spot today.

Supercoach Watch: Port: Boak remains a great smokey while Robbie Gray, Dan Houston and even Peter Ladhams could make decent late-season selections if you are cash-strapped.

Essendon: Merrett is well and truly back to his Supercoach best while Ridley, Shiel and Devon Smith appear in plenty of teams. Sam Draper is also holding up plenty of ruck lines to end the SC season.

Thommo Watch: I want Ladhams as my F6. He needs to repay the faith after his COVID breech so expect a decent return this and next round.

Thommo’s Tip: Port by 30 points.

  1. I’m an Eagles man, but I’d love for the Dons to get up here and salvage some dignity.

Hopefully Riddles can also bounce back from last week’s 73.

  2. I’m hoping my bombers get spanked by 100pts and they finally decide that supporters deserve more than be patient, and do something about it. Carlton and Freo are now looking at us in their rear view mirrors. Tanner is going…so should anyone on the board that remains pre the ASADA debacle. The club was at its best when they had all those players with a bit of c..t. We need another dirty little prick as coach….not an academic.
    Clarkson would love the challenge.
    Sorry for the rant.

  3. At this stage, it doesn’t look like I will have a VC/C loophole for tomorrow for my preferred option of VC Gawn tonight

TU : VC Merrett so I can Captain Gawn / Macrae or Neale if needed by using Captain Riccardi tonight
TD: VC Gawn tonight with no chance to Captain Macrae or Neale if Gawn goes big, unless Doc / Wicks / Schoenberg are not named to play tomorrow.

      1. Port still the better side, but yeah. You’d be in it had the umpires not bet their salaries on Dixon for the Coleman lol.
