Game Chat – Richmond vs Geelong

Written by Thommo on August 3 2018

WHERE AND WHEN: the MCG, Friday, August 3, 7.50pm AEST

SUMMARY
If last week’s Richmond-Collingwood clash was highly anticipated, this one has roared back into relevancy over the past two weeks with the Cats winning their way back into the finals conversation. The Tigers continued to be a force against the wounded Magpies on Saturday; they ran out 28-point winners and moved a full game clear of the second-placed West Coast. They keep finding new ways to win too, with their usual ball-winners upstaged by the likes of Shane Edwards, Jayden Short and Jack Higgins while David Astbury will present Tom Hawkins with a big challenge. The Cats need to keep winning to shore up their likelihood of playing finals, and with a tough clash with Hawthorn to follow this one, they’d ideally like to keep the momentum running into round 21. And, with Gary Ablett hitting some form and Rhys Stanley enjoying a career revival, they’re in a good spot.

LAST FIVE MEETINGS
R13, 2018, Richmond 12.11 (83) d Geelong Cats 9.11 (65) at the MCG
2QF, 2017, Richmond 13.13 (91) d Geelong Cats 5.10 (40) at the MCG
R21, 2017, Geelong Cats 11.14 (80) d Richmond 9.12 (66) at GMHBA Stadium
R21, 2016, Geelong Cats 10.22 (82) d Richmond 12.6 (78) at the MCG
R5, 2015, Geelong Cats 12.13 (85) d Richmond 11.10 (76) at the MCG

Thommo’s Tip – Richmond by 18 points.

        1. I’d consider Ryan/Webster over Shaw/Tuohy. Shaw may keep up decent form, but Tuohy will let you down at some stage during finals

    1. Thumbs aren’t helping either lol. I’ve gone for Short, only the one score under 85 (last week, 63) since round 10. Hoping he’ll be decent for 90+ for the SC finals

  1. Should I trade Martin to Macrae!?!?

3 trades remaining if I complete the trade, have been freakishly lucky with injuries this year.

      1. Rides a tackle, almost gets done holding the ball, handball turnover and Richmond kick a goal directly, Menegola gets 6 points.

        Ok.

        I see what’s happening here.

  3. Austin to who while Howe is out? 4 trades remaining prior to this and must win.

    TU Webster
TD Lienert (Saving $250k for upgrades)

Getting in Webster means I can do Fyfe to J. Kelly too (then $0 in the bank), whereas Lienert means I can make the same upgrade in the middle plus upgrade someone else next week.

    1. I guess I’m asking will Webster score more than Lienert, making him worth the additional cost?

      TU yes
      TD no/similar

  4. Just realized that my taking the VC off Danger today & putting it to Mitchell didn’t save…hoping he goes massive!

  5. Tim Kelly, 14 touches in the 1st QTR!

SCT relevant/irrelevant, he has proven himself absolutely prepared for top level AFL footy all year long. He’s been fun to watch this year!

  6. Honestly, I thought to myself, this would be a great week to trade J Selwood to Danger. Wouldn’t it? Great idea is not what I’m thinking now…

Probably should have gone to McRae.

  7. Went with Tuohy and he got me 90 which is a fairly average result but I will still take it as I wasn’t expecting a 100+. Did hope for more though

  8. Damn I Vc’d Danger! 132 is in the awkward zone
Might watch Mitchells game as most will have him VC so if he goes big I’ll go again with Gawn, if not I’ll hold

  9. Damn……had menegola in sight for Robinson but held off as looking good for a win and have double chance…..thought smart move was to save the trade for prelim.

    1. Wouldn’t beat yourself up mate. Just as likely to let owners down when it really counts. Hasn’t been nearly consistent enough this year. GAJ back at Kardinia seems to have effected him and Danger more than others.

    2. Wighty – exactly what I did.
Now I don’t know who to field out of Ahern and Robinson. Ahern one good score and everyone is getting a bit carried away. Look at the rest of his scores. Remember he only got a game two weeks ago coz there was a late out.

  10. I went to the game last night and when I compare what I saw Vs the supercoach scores, I think Tim Kelly was massively underscored….
I don’t have him, this is just a comment – his disposals were high, lots of contested possession, his ‘influence’ on the game was huge (everyone around me including Rich supporters thought him a clear BOG) and while I’m not looking at stats (disp efficiency % etc) ……I’m not sure I’ll ever understand how they score this….
