Game Chat – West Coast vs Western Bulldogs

Written by Thommo on September 6 2020

Where and When: Metricon Stadium, Sunday 6 September 2020 at 6:10pm (AEST)

Last time they met: Rd 11, 2019: West Coast 21.7 (133) def Western Bulldogs 10.12 (72) at Optus Stadium

Match Preview: The Bulldogs are running out of time if they want to play finals footy, so it is not a great time to meet one of their bogey teams. West Coast have won their last five matches against the Doggies and, despite their dislike of playing footy in Queensland, they played decent footy against the Bombers last round. West Coast will be without Shuey and Hurn which may hurt their on-ground leadership so if the Dogs want to end their losing streak to the Eagles, this may be the week to do it.

Supercoach Watch: West Coast – Natanui owners will be happy to see that Bailey Williams is out while Tim Kelly owners will be happy that Luke Shuey is out. Gaff has also returned to form in recent weeks while Dom Sheed could be a smokey to have a good run to end the season.

Western Bulldogs -I will be shocked if there are many Supercoach teams that don’t have a single Bulldogs’ player. With Macrae, Bontempelli, Dunkley, Johannisen, Bailey Smith, English and Lachie Hunter, the Dogs are surely the most Supercoach relevant team in the AFL in 2020.

Thommo Watch: Macrae gets the VC duties for the Tribe this week: Here’s hoping he can rack up 30+ possies, 5+ tackles and marks and perhaps a goal…

Thommo’s Tip: West Coast by 2 goals.

      1. No Shuey, Yeo, Hurn and now Nic Nat – engine room severely depleted. We’re in trouble, CT. Going to get absolutely obliterated at CBs and stoppages, not sure we can win on system alone. Fingers crossed.

        1. You are so right GD. Here’s hoping the guys can step up.
          GO EAGLES.
I was just short of a straight swap NicNat to Gawn . Not enjoying supercoach this year.

            1. Yeah, wow. Very happy with that. Defended really well and then ultra efficient with our inside 50s. Keep it up, fellas.

          1. With 2 minutes to spare, managed a very quick trade of NicNac to Gawn, thanking my lucky stars that I thought to check for any late changes just in time.

      1. Sorry Jo must have missed it, any information on how serious his back injury is or is he just managed? Back next round?

        1. it was when Ch 10 said that WB had terrible ruck hitout numbers
WC coach said it would be better to rest Nic Nat rather than risk an injury
there was no mention of a pre existing injury

  2. Not enough cash for Gawn, so ROB makes his way in for the Tech team. Since the Crows have improved and ROB plays GWS, Blues and Tigers I feel he should do well in the ruck contest

    1. as its best 18
im only going with 1 ruck , Gawn
      holding Grundy
keeping 2 trades up my sleeve
expecting a lot of players to be rested from the worst & best placed teams over the next 2 weeks

      1. I would have had 0 rucks this week, then already a player or 2 down in other areas. Still have 4 trades to use over the last 2 weeks

        1. i had Grundy & Balta out in the ruck , no bench
          & hurn ( understandable ) too old n slow v the dogs
          traded Balta to gawn
          kept Hurn & Grundy
got rivers on for Hurn so only 1 down

      1. i think 2 AFL footballers could pay off 50k each easily
10k per year for 5 years
over their careers that is a drop in the bucket
personally , i think they should pay it
they didn’t care about the community or the competition
they obviously were only thinking of their own gratification & thought they wouldn’t get caught
says a lot about their commitment to their jobs in general
if the club pays , its really the Richmond members that will pay their bill

  5. Jo you make some strange comments

Gaff has copped a hard tag from McLean all night. He isn’t playing backline.

    1. my gut was trading him in today … was talked out of it … my bad for not trusting myself …will be too expensive for me now … he’s been slowly stepping it up the last couple of weeks … the worry being he gets thrown into ruck contests and other tasks – but if he keeps up the tackles and the CP’s he’s going to keep racking yup points.

      1. I actually traded him out for Gaff – worst decision this year after going with my gut and bringing him in 2 weeks prior…
Dont feel bad im there with you 🙁

  6. That free to Darling. What was all that about? WC didn’t deserve to win but not too sure that was a goal to Bont.

    1. Yes there was as he was sitting around 70 in the final quarter. He jumped quite a lot from that. Wasn’t going to make the tonne if it didn’t occur
