Game Chat – Western Bulldogs v North Melbourne

Written by Gunboat Diplomacy on February 21 2020

Where and when: Marvel Stadium, Friday 21 February, 7.10pm AEDT

Watchlist:

Ben CAVARRA (WBD) FWD @ $123,900

Previously plagued by injury and unable to work his way into a competitive Dogs list last year, Cavarra’s finally found his way onto the park. Highly rated in the VFL, promising cow if he can lock up a spot.

Callum PORTER (WBD) MID @ $123,900

Similar circumstances as Cavarra, injuries to the Dogs over the off-season have opened up spots for them to give another rookie a run. Should be able to slot in as a defensive midfielder tonight and show some promise.

Pat LIPINSKI (WBD) FWD/MID @ $441,500

Set for an inside midfield role, maybe now Lipinski can consistently strike at the tantalizing ceiling he displayed in the back end of 2019?

Aiden BONAR (NTH) MID/FWD @ $202,800

Reports last week had him slated for a “pure midfield” role after a solid pre-season. As per AllSaints terrific article earlier in the week, a strong showing in the Marsh Series will have Bonar serving as a handy stepping stone to an early FWD upgrade.

Notable Absentees:

Tim English (WBD), Jack ZIEBELL (NTH).

  1. Need to keep an eye out for Jack Mahony ($117,300 mid/fwd) too. Has a Supercoach friendly game if he gets a decent run at it.

  2. Evening, all.

Feel bad for Sweet. First game and he’s up against a ruck with a decade of experience. Watch Goldy abuse him for 200 SC lol.

        1. Ah. Cheers, CT. I’m in good company.

Been slated to do the captaincy articles this year, also doing the Marsh Series game chats.

    1. Lol. Was just thinking the same thing, Wighty!

I’ve got the double dog (Macrae, Dunkley) atm, but Bont is absolutely popping off rn. Compelling.

        1. Only concern is Bont will cop a tag ahead of all of them. On the flip side, he is seems to be relishing the captaincy. Ugh, so conflicted!

          1. The bulldog fan bias in me is making it incredibly difficult to not start all three!
You’re definitely right about the tag, De boar twice by half way through the season makes the bont call tough

              1. Yeah it’s a tough one! I’ll have to look back at his past scores vs De boar but I’m definitely still leaning towards starting bont at this stage

      1. Calm down folks, this is only one JLT game. The question to ask is: did Dunk and Macrae have a full preseason? Yes. Did they play in the gut? Did they attend most centre bounce? Yes. Then even though The Bont outscored them , just enjoy the game. It was his highest or second highest disposal tally. Pick him if he does the same all JLT games. I’ll be wary to pick 3 mids of the same team.

    1. Tough to judge from just 1 marsh series match, especially given the squad they fielded and their opposition (WBD are a tidy outfit). It’ll be interesting to see what North’s next generation (Simpkin, Thomas, LDU, etc.) can produce in 2020 and beyond, but I think they’ll be competitive this year.

…is it obvious I’m a triggered North supporter?

  5. Brilliant play from the Dogs just then. Force the turnover, I50 entry from the center square and then Schache and Lloyd played the defenders like fiddles.

Dogs to play finals again this year, surely.
