Curnow looks likely to be fine, despite leaving JLT1 with a corked calf. Fasolo is set to play his first game for the club in JLT2, having recovered quickly from a broken arm. Kreuzer is also an outside chance to play Collingwood, having recently undergone minor knee surgery, but looks a certainty to be fit for round one regardless. However Marchbank, Lang, Macreadie and Williamson have already been ruled out of the side’s season-opening clash with Richmond. – Riley Beveridge

Dunn and Broomhead aren’t far away from full training, while Wells has made a breakthrough in his recovery from the Lisfranc injury that sidelined him for the bulk of last season. It follows an interrupted pre-season with a niggling hamstring complaint. Shiel (quad) should play against Geelong in the club’s second JLT Community Series, while Fantasia (quad) should also face the Cats. Jok (concussion) has been ruled out for the game with some symptoms still lingering. – Ben Guthrie

 Sam Switkowski  Hamstring  TBC
 Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Fyfe is pushing to play in the final JLT Community Series clash against West Coast this Sunday after an elbow operation, while recruit Conca and young ruckman Darcy should also be very close to playing. The Dockers aren’t sure on Sandilands‘ timeframe to return from his latest calf trouble and have their fingers crossed Bennell can build his workload back up after another recent calf scare. Switkowski’s history of hamstring woes came back to haunt him against Collingwood, and a prognosis is unknown at this stage, while Hill’s hopes of appearing in round one were dashed by another quad setback at training last week. – Travis King

GEELONG

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Nakia Cockatoo  Adductor  Test
 Lachie Fogarty  Hip  3-4 weeks
 Zac Smith  Knee  2-3 weeks
 Harry Taylor  Concussion  Test
 Zach Tuohy  Knee  1-2 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Taylor will be monitored ahead of Thursday night after suffering a head knock in the first term against West Coast last week. Tuohy’s knee complaint has him touch and go for round one, clocking up big hours of cross-training in the gym. After overcoming back concerns, Smith has succumbed to a knee injury that will rule him out of contention for the season opener. Cockatoo continues to build his fitness base, looking to avoid any soft tissue hiccups. Fogarty’s hip surgery has him eyeing a return in the first month of the season. – Mitch Cleary

GOLD COAST

 Jack Leslie  Knee  3-4 weeks
 Tom Nicholls  Calf  Test
 Josh Schoenfeld  Ankle  3-4 weeks
 Harrison Wigg  Knee  Season
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Lemmens was the only fresh injury from the win over the Bulldogs, getting his ankle caught awkwardly in a tackle during the game’s final minute. With the Suns staying in North Queensland an extra day for their community camp, the scans have been pushed back another day. Holman has been troubled by his back for most of the pre-season but is almost right to be considered for selection.– Michael Whiting

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Toby Greene  Ankle  Test
 Nick Haynes  Back  2-3 weeks
 Zac Langdon  Foot  5-6 weeks
 Shane Mumford  Suspended  Round 3
 Jon Patton  Knee  Mid-May
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Greene is a chance to return in GWS’s second JLT Community Series game against Adelaide on Friday night, but even if he doesn’t play the Giants have little doubt he’ll be fit for their round clash against Essendon. Haynes, however, remains touch and go for the season opener as he continues to recover from a back complaint. Langdon will make a delayed start to the season after injuring a Lisfranc joint at training last week, while Patton will fly to Philadelphia within the next fortnight to continue his recovery from his third knee reconstruction. The key forward has resumed running and his US trip is primarily designed to break up the drudgery of his lengthy rehabilitation. Barring last-minute hiccups, Tomlinson (calf) and Kelly (knee and hip) will play their first games of the year on Friday night against the Crows. – Nick Bowen

HAWTHORN

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Tom Mitchell  Leg  Season
 Tom Scully  Ankle  Indefinite
 Chad Wingard  Calf  2-3 weeks
 James Worpel  Knee  Available
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

A setback with his calf injury will see Wingard miss round one but the club is hopeful he’ll be fit to make his club debut in the early rounds of the season. Iliotibial band soreness kept Gunston out of the loss to Brisbane at the weekend, but he is a possible inclusion to face the Tigers in Launceston on Saturday. Mirra (ankle) and Worpel (knee) both suffered minor complaints against the Lions but both will be available to play this weekend. Meanwhile, veteran Birchall is back into full skills training and is expected to return in the first half of the season. – Nat Edwards

 Jake Lever  Knee  12-16 weeks
 Jake Melksham  Hamstring  Available
 Jack Viney  Foot  Available
 Guy Walker  Shoulder  TBC
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Garlett has avoided surgery on his right shoulder but he’ll still miss between 4-6 weeks as part of his recovery. Hannan will start running next week and the hope is he will be able to progress his training loads to get back to playing quickly. Lever has returned from his trip to the US where he visited sports injury specialist Bill Knowles and will look to re-join full training in the coming weeks. NORTH MELBOURNE

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Jed Anderson  Hamstring  Test
 Majak Daw  Pelvis/hips  Indefinite
 Sam Durdin  Finger  6-8 weeks
 Taylor Garner  Hamstring  Test
 Aaron Hall  Knee  Test
 Ben Jacobs  Sinusitis  Indefinite
Robbie Tarrant  AC joint  2-3 weeks
 Scott Thompson  Suspended  Round two
 Will Walker  PCL  Indefinite
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Hall escaped serious injury when St Kilda ruckman Lewis Pierce fell across his left knee last Saturday, but the midfielder pulled up sore and remains in doubt for North’s second JLT Community Series game against Port Adelaide. Anderson and Garner are in contention to play their first games of 2019 but must first show they have overcome hamstring niggles. Tarrant remains lineball to be fit for North’s round one clash against Fremantle, but the key defender is making encouraging progress in his recovery from AC joint surgery. Durdin is maintaining fitness ahead of his eventual return as he continues to train with a guard on the little finger he accidentally cut. Jacobs, Daw and Walker continue their rehabilitations with no set timelines on their return dates.– Nick Bowen

PORT ADELAIDE

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Joe Atley  Knee  3 weeks

 Hamish Hartlett  Knee  3-4 weeks
 Sam Hayes  Knee  TBC
 Riley Grundy  Knee  6-8 weeks
 Paddy Ryder  Ankle  TBC
 Ollie Wines  Shoulder  3-5 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Co-captain Wines and key forward Dixon will miss the start of the season. The Power are hopeful they’ll be available in the first month of the competition. Vice-captain Hartlett will need to get a couple of runs under his belt in the SANFL before returning from a torn ACL. Ruckman Ryder rolled his ankle in the JLT Community Series game against Adelaide last weekend, but the injury isn’t expected to be serious. Defender Broadbent had his workloads managed in his return from ankle surgery, however he should be available this week. – Lee Gaskin

RICHMOND

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Josh Caddy  Ankle  4-8 weeks
 Jason Castagna  Ankle  1-3 weeks
 Ryan Garthwaite  Achilles  1-3 weeks
 Shaun Grigg  Knee  4-8 weeks
 Tom Lynch  PCL  2-5 weeks
 Jacob Townsend  Thigh  1-3 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

A few changes in Richmond’s injury list, with Caddy now looking highly unlikely to play round one as he battles an ankle complaint. Star recruit Lynch will also be racing against the clock, with the club having erred on the side of caution with his rehab this summer. Premiership “ruckman” and winger Grigg has had problems with his knee and has been ruled out until at least round three. It’s a structural issue in his knee that’s causing problems with kicking, rather than running. Castagna, Garthwaite and Townsend remain on track for selection in rounds one or two. – Sarah Black

ST KILDA

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Blake Acres  Back  Test
 Nathan Brown  Suspended  Round 2

 Billy Longer  Hamstring  2-3 weeks
 Daniel McKenzie  Heel  Test
 Lewis Pierce  Concussion  Test
 Jack Steven  Mental health  Indefinite
Updated: Wednesday, March 6

Early prognosis

Back surgery for Carlisle makes it very unlikely he will return this season. Concussed ruckman Pierce is a chance to face the Western Bulldogs on Sunday, as are McKenzie (bruised heel), Acres (back tightness) and Long (foot). Hannebery is in a conditioning block as he aims to be fit for round one, but the Saints aren’t putting a strict timeframe on when he will return. – Dinny Navaratnam

Reliable defender Smith isn’t back with the main group yet as he deals with a hamstring complaint. Jones and Jack are doing everything and both are in line to face Gold Coast on Sunday. McVeigh didn’t play last week as the Swans manage the 33-year-old’s workload but is a reasonable chance to take the field against the Suns. Cameron is dealing with a knee niggle sustained in the Swans’ practice match against Greater Western Sydney a fortnight ago.Dinny Navaratnam

WEST COAST

 Jamie Cripps  Toe  3-4 weeks
 Andrew Gaff  Suspended  Round 3
 Josh Kennedy  Foot  2-3 weeks
 Nic Naitanui  Knee  3-4 months
 Will Schofield  Quad  1 week
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Dual Coleman medalist Kennedy is on track for round one and ramping up his training again after being ‘de-loaded’ recently, while Cripps is taking strides forward following toe surgery and might not miss as much football as expected in the early rounds. Schofield copped a heavy corkie in the intraclub on February 22 and was still on light duties on Tuesday, placing him in doubt for the second JLT Community Series hitout against Fremantle this Sunday. – Travis King

WESTERN BULLDOGS

Player

Injury

Estimated Return

 Tom Boyd  Back  10-12 weeks
 Bailey Dale  Ankle  1-2 weeks
 Jason Johannisen  Ankle  2-3 weeks
 Lin Jong  Hamstring  5-6 weeks
 Buku Khamis  Knee  4-6 weeks
 Liam Picken  Concussion  Indefinite
 Lukas Webb  Neck  1-2 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, March 5

Early prognosis

Boyd’s ongoing back injury is expected to sideline him until at least the mid-season bye in a major blow to the Dogs’ tall stocks. Jong and Khamis continue to recover as planned from setbacks suffered in match simulation, while Dale’s ankle has meant he hasn’t been able to fill the desired amount of training to play round one. Johannisen remains on a modified program, and is expected to return to full sessions in the first fortnight of the season. Webb is on track to re-join contact training in the next fortnight. – Mitch Cleary

    1. apart from Carlisle and Steven, admittedly two huge OUTs, the rest are/were to be expected, or will be back soon.

Shouldn’t look SO bad in a couple of weeks … here’s hoping
