The Pies’ round 13 bye has come at a good time for Wells, who suffered a foot strain in the Queen’s Birthday win over Melbourne. Reid and Varcoe could also be passed fit for the round 14 clash with Carlton. Fasolo and Aish are recovering well and the Pies will also be conservative with hamstrung trio ElliottMoore and Smith. Stewart Crameri will consult a specialist this week to learn the extent of a poke to the eye in Saturday’s VFL win. The recruit was taken to hospital as precaution after kicking three goals. Aaron Black looks set to be sidelined for the rest of the year with the club sensing experts will confirm a torn ACL. Small forward Lincoln McCarthy was managed with hamstring tightness after four games back after more than 12 months out with a foot. Zac Smith missed the VFL with back soreness but completed a session on Saturday morning. Harry Taylor is set to return from his latest plantar fascia setback after the round 14 bye, while Nakia Cockatoo is close to resuming from his round three knee. Daniel Menzel has set his sights on playing after the bye. – Mitch Cleary
