Zach Merrett will miss after the Bombers accepted his one-week suspension for striking Lachie Plowman. Orazio Fantasia is done for the season after scans revealed a “grade two plus” hamstring strain, with the timeline set at 5-6 weeks. Joe Daniher hyperextended his knee against Carlton but played out the game; he’s sore but will train this week. Mitch Brown has been slated for a round 23 return, but a decision will be made this week on whether Ben McNeice plays again this season after he undergoes a neck scan on Wednesday. James Kelly and Andrew McGrath are available this week after being rested on the weekend. – Jennifer Phelan

Armitage won’t play again this season after he ran out of time in his recovery from two bouts of groin surgery. The Saints are highly confident Riewoldt will be fine. There’s no timeline on McCartin to return while Wright is out for the year with a syndesmosis injury. Freeman’s own syndesmosis concern and Sandringham’s ladder position (11th) means he is unlikely to play again in 2017. Long copped a one-game ban in the VFL but with Sandringham having the bye at the weekend, he is unavailable for two weeks at AFL level. – Dinny Navaratnam

  1. Alex Witherden will likely miss Saturday’s match against the Gold Coast Suns after injuring his hamstring.

    Witherden came off in the last few minutes of the Bulldogs game, with medical staff initially thinking he had cramped, but MRI scans confirmed he had a small tear in his hamstring.

    “He’s going well but probably unlikely this week but we’ll see how we go,” Blach said.

  2. Anyone see the rumour on GAJ getting a scan on his hammy today?
    Will be interesting to see if true & if they came up with anything.
    As he’s unlikely to be there next season will be interesting to see if they just play kids.

  3. Witts has been confirmed to be out for the remainder of the season after seeing a surgeon yesterday with news he requires surgery on his shoulder.
