 Rory Sloane  Hand  2-4 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 28

Early prognosis

The watch will be on stand-in captain Doedee this week as he hopes to overcome a very minor hamstring injury from last week. Whether the Crows risk the defender with a block of games coming up might be another question. McHenry was sore last week so was managed but is available to be picked this week, while Fogarty is also ready to return from his absence due to a shoulder injury. Crouch will miss 2-3 weeks with his regular hamstring injury.  Callum Twomey

Brisbane Lions

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN

 Daniel Rich  Hamstring  1-2 weeks
 Archie Smith  Ankle  6 weeks
 Updated: Tuesday, July 28

Early prognosis

Rich strained his hamstring just after half-time against Melbourne, and although it’s not serious, with the compressed schedule he’ll likely miss either two or three matches. Same goes for Lester, although both will be reassessed on Sunday. If they recover within two weeks, they’ll be available to play the Western Bulldogs on August 8. Bad news for Smith, with confirmation of a syndesmosis injury that has him out long-term. – Michael Whiting

PLAYER INJURY ESTIMATED RETURN
 Charlie Curnow  Knee  Season
 Paddy Dow  Knee  1 week
 Brodie Kemp  Knee  Season

 Jack Silvagni  Knee  2 weeks
 Updated: Tuesday, July 28

Early prognosis

The Blues don’t expect McGovern to play this week after suffering a hamstring complaint in Saturday’s victory over the Kangaroos, but McKay should return from a minor knee issue to ease the woes up forward. Marchbank is still another week away from returning from a knee problem, while Silvagni is out for a couple of weeks. – Riley Beveridge

Collingwood

 Dayne Beams  Mental health  Indefinite

Updated: Tuesday, July 28

Early prognosis

The Pies will lose captain Pendlebury for at least the next fortnight due to a quad injury, while there is still doubt as to whether Varcoe will recover from a ribs issue for this week’s clash with the Dockers. De Goey and Howe are both long-term prospects, with neither likely to return before finals. – Riley Beveridge

Essendon Bombers

 Harrison Jones  Foot  1-2 weeks
 Kyle Langford  Suspension  1 match
 Jayden Laverde  Ankle  6-8 weeks
 Jake Stringer  Ankle  3-4 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 28

Early prognosis

Laverde faces two months on the sidelines after requiring ankle surgery. The Bombers will also be without Fantasia for three to four weeks as he battles another soft-tissue injury. Dylan Shiel will return from suspension, most likely to replace the suspended Langford, but Hooker remains a couple of weeks away. Stringer, too, is at least a month away from returning from his ankle injury. The Bombers’ forward half continues to get hit by injury concerns, which has been a recurring issue over the past couple of seasons.  Callum Twomey

Early prognosis

A horror showing against the Cats was made even worse after some key injuries. The Dockers suspect Walters suffered hamstring cramp when he limped off late but will sweat on scans. Coach Justin Longmuir said Tucker‘s hamstring strain is a “bad one”, while Darcy also suffered hamstring cramp and Blake Acres looked sore with a cork. Cox was a late out after his hip injury flared up again but is a good chance to face the Magpies on Sunday. Superstar skipper Fyfe will almost definitely return, while Hogan and Sturt will be touch and go.  Chris Correia

 Rhys Stanley  Knee  1-2 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 28

Early prognosis

Geelong is refusing to link foot injuries to Dahlhaus and Fort to the surface at Optus Stadium, despite both pulling up sore following the loss to Collingwood in round seven. Dahlhaus has bone stress in his heel and Fort in his foot and will miss considerable time. Atkins has overcome his rib cartilage damage and will re-join main training on Thursday. Jenkins is still yet to play a scratch match in Geelong colours, but is increasing his training loads and is expected to play game minutes this week. Selwood and Narkle are tests to play the Eagles, with the skipper the more likely of the two. Stanley has already been ruled out of a date with Nic Naitanui but could play North Melbourne on August 5. – Mitch Cleary

Updated: Tuesday, July 28

Early prognosis

This is as healthy a list as the Suns have had for years. Horlin-Smith and Thompson will return to the reserves in another week, but with no new injuries, they’re almost at full strength. – Michael Whiting

Updated: Tuesday, July 28

Early prognosis

Williams hasn’t played since round four due to his hamstring strain but is expected to be available for selection this week to add some more dash to the Giants’ back half. Former co-captain Ward has made a miraculous recovery and is pushing to play as early as this week, while Kennedy has had a run of hamstring concerns this season so will be treated cautiously. – Callum Twomey

The Hawks could get a major boost this week, with BreustJarman Impey (knee) – who’s played three scratch games back – Ceglar and O’Brien a chance to return from their respective injuries. In further good news, Dan Howe (foot) returned from a long-term foot injury in a practice match against Greater Western Sydney last Friday and will look to increase his game time in the coming weeks. Henderson has returned to Victoria to complete his rehabilitation– Marc McGowan

 Ed Vickers-Willis  Turf toe  Test
 Will Walker  Quad  Test
 Jack Ziebell  Hamstring  3 weeks
Updated: Tuesday, July 28

Early prognosis

The Roos’ lengthy injury list is a bit shorter this week. Cam Zurhaar (calf) and Jed Anderson (quad) returned on Saturday after respective absences, while Jy Simpkin (ankle) and Kyron Hayden (concussion) didn’t miss a game despite setbacks. Cunnington‘s back issue has resulted in him losing quad strength and it’s unclear when he will be back. Turner reported soreness in his toe issue – which kept him out for the first half of the year – after returning to play, and faces more time out. Ahern and Bonar could push to play this week, while Ed Vickers-Willis (turf toe) and Will Walker (quad) are fit again after respective layoffs. – Marc McGowan

Early prognosis

Hannebery’s season is hanging by a thread after he returned to Melbourne for surgery to repair the tendon on his troublesome hamstring. He re-injured it while running at training last Friday. Given recovery from the same surgery typically takes a minimum eight weeks, he isn’t expected to be seen until finals at the earliest. Webster’s hamstring is less serious but will cost him a month of training. Battle will need to be cleared after missing the win over Port Adelaide with a minor facial fracture. Brown has returned home from the hub to be with his family. – Mitch Cleary

McGovern will need to prove he’s over a fractured thumb at main training on Wednesday. The star defender was a late withdrawal for the win over Collingwood after sustaining the injury in the round seven Western Derby win. Mark Hutchings also played his first minutes since the restart in a scratch match against Collingwood on Sunday evening. Watson ruptured his ACL while changing direction running last week at training and will undergo season-ending surgery. Vardy tweaked his ankle in last week’s scratch match against Collingwood. O’Neill has returned to Perth from Tasmania and will re-join his teammates next week after serving quarantine to continue his recovery.  Mitch Cleary

    1. Adductor issue. Little word on it so far.

Freo play Sunday night, so we won’t know if he’s playing until Saturday evening.

Should probably trade him out. Not worth the stress.
