Motts Movers R16, 2013 – The Backs

Written by Motts on July 15 2013

Technically, there are no Movers this week as there are no Defenders that have scored 3 centuries over the last 3 weeks. Tough year. But being the committed individual I am, I’ll do the best with what I’ve got to bring you another entertaining edition.

Premiums

Nick Malceski ($486,100, 96.87, 55) – Did what he wanted against The Giants yesterday. Probably could’ve conducted an Auskick clinic in the GWS forward line such was the attention he was getting. Scored 156 which was 33 more than his previous high for the year – 123 against Geelong. Tough SC Finals series (Collingwood, Saints, Geelong and Hawthorn) but conceivably that could see the ball in his vicinity a lot of the time.

Scott D Thompson ($497,200, 97.6, 103) – It was either BJ Goddard ($521,400, 105.13, 90) or Scotty for this spot and to give you a look at a potential POD (he’s in only 4.75% of teams compared with 64%) I’ve gone with SDT. He can be a little erratic scoring wise (had a 66 against Freo in R13) but with 8 90+ scores to his name he delivers well half the time. Most other scores are in the 80s. Not a big fan of his finals run – Adelaide, Essendon, Hawthorn, Collingwood. Previous scores against them have been 71, 0, 84, 86. Hmmmm I think I just talked myself out of him.

Garrick Ibbotson ($485,300, 101.18, 114) – Regular readers will know I’ve been a fan of Ibbo’s ever since he kicked off this year with an 83 against Richmond and then followed that up with a 94 against The Suns and a whopping 142 against Collingwood. He’s since gone on to score 4 tons and a 98 in 8 games – the most recent against WC yesterday (113). Don’t make me tell you about Freo’s finals run again.

Midpricers

Pearce Hanley ($434,700, 98.86, 45) – Earning himself a lot of plaudits for his efforts on Saturday night and well earned they are too. Goes hard at it, runs all night, and kicks goals – handy when you’ve got him playing down back. Looks to be back to his early season form after a small lull. His last 3 have been 86, 117 and 105. At $430k he’s only $23k above his lowest price for the year. Brisbane plays the GWS and WB in their finals run but finishes on an absolute ‘mare – down at Kardinia Park. What’d the Irishman score against Geelong a couple of weeks ago? 42. Ouch.

Brent Staker ($371,400, 84.25, 7) – I was starting to feel a little sheepish for the amount of pumping up we were giving Staker earlier this year. After a superb 98 in his second game, he went quiet scoring 67 and 53 on either side of the bye. My hopes started to lift with an 85 and a 77 against Geelong and Hawthorn respectively. But over the last 2 weeks he’s got everyone here at SCTHQ la la la’ing again with a 110 (Suns) and a 111 (North). Has Melbourne this week. La La La!!

Lachie Henderson ($433,500, 85.87, 72) – Ratts used to play Lachie down front and I for one was more than happy to see him pushed back after some costly errors. The kid looks to have learnt a truckload playing on the opposition forwards – his work in conjuction with Rowe on Saturday night against the Saints was magnificent – and with his ability to take a contested mark, Mick is now plonking him down in the Forward line again. He’s scored 7 95+ scores in the last 10 games. The risk with him though is that in the other 3 games he’s scored 68, 54 and 70. The other bonus is: he’s a D/F DPP so will do the funky dance with Staker if you ask him nicely.

Rookies

No rookie worth less than $150k played last weekend. If you’re dead keen on bringing in a rookie in your backline give Josh Saunders ($154,000, 35.4, -4) some thought because he should get some games between now and the end of the season being a Saint. Otherwise spend the extra dough and snaffle Mitch Clisby ($183,700, 61.25, -3).
