Movers & Shakers – Round 23

Written by The Salamander on August 22 2019

With just one week to go, today, we have a a special edition of Movers & Shakers: a look at the most up-and-down players from last year to this!

Player Name (Other position) (Club, 2018 average, 2019 average, 2019 starting price, Current price)

DEFENDERS

Bachar Houli (RICH, 73.6, 105.0, $399,600, $549,000)
Likely not in anyone’s thoughts pre-season, this bearded defender has wound back the clock, and been one of the best.

Kade Simpson (CARL, 105.0, 82.5, $570,300, $473,300)
And this bearded defender hasn’t. He has been good for the last five or six weeks, but those who started him at full price would have been bitterly disappointed. Luckily, he has a chance to make it up in 2020.

MIDFIELDERS

Marcus Bontempelli (WB, 104.0, 113.5, $564,600, $588,100)
One who has finally stepped up from almost-premium to actual premium this year. Now Magnets, please don’t move him to the forward pocket for the final round!

Angus Brayshaw (MELB, 97.1, 86.3, $526,900, $369,900)
Oh, how the mighty have fallen! The man who nearly won the Brownlow last year was nowhere near it this season. In the pre-season, his average of 108 over the last 9 rounds last year seemed to really suck people in. But, like Melbourne’s rise up the ladder, it didn’t carry over into this year.

RUCKS

Scott Lycett (FWD) (PORT, 81.3, 99.8, $441,200, $547,500)
Averaging 100 for the season, and 120 since round 11, Lycett was the pick of the bunch amongst this year’s RUC/FWD swing options. Well, at least until Ken dropped him. My petition is still up, by the way.

Stefan Martin (BL, 105.7, 92.6, $573,700, $461,200)
This slot almost went to Toby Nankervis; unfortunately for Martin, Nankervis had injury as an excuse for his downfall. Martin is just getting old. It is interesting, however, that as Brisbane’s share of SC points has risen, Martin’s has not risen with it.

FORWARDS

Rowan Marshall (STK, 62.8, 111.1, $341,100, $571,800)
Did anybody pick him at the start of the season? If so, please feel free to brag about it in the comments below!

Justin Westhoff (RUC) (PORT, 101.2, 77,4, $549,500, $392,500)
I wouldn’t be bragging out this one, though. After starting the season with a 149-point bang, Westhoff went on a low-scoring rampage, destroying the ranking of all coaches who had him in their teams. At least he provided ruck cover, I guess?

Did you manage to start all movers and no shakers? Boast about your resultant high ranking in the comments below!

  1. The Hoff might be one of the first picked (F7 /R3) for me next year, should stay at DPP, got his bad year out of the way and he should thrive under a new coach…..oh wait..
