  1. Oh, I’ve hated it all lol. Shortened quarters, condensed fixtures and staggered teamsheets have made the football near unwatchable imo. Low scoring, injury riddled and stagnant. Not to mention trading blind and injuries have f*cking murdered my SC team lol.

I get the AFL’s rationale behind those changes, but I’d say a majority of games have been painful to watch. Hopefully the finals series is more fluid, high scoring and competitive.

Also, hats off to Jack for another great poll. Really enjoyed the this kind of content to keep things going. Cheers.

  2. Great poll this.

I’ve been completely over footy and SC the last 4-5 weeks as it’s been unrelenting with games on nearly every day meaning you never get a chance to switch off or do some proper research. And being forced to make decisions without enough info due to the night-before notice of teams has been the absolute pits.

While I understand completely the need for the different arrangements due to COVID, quite simply, I‘m not sure I’d go around again next year if those arrangements were to continue.

Bring on 2021 and going back to the way both footy and SC used to be.

  3. At first i thought the festival of footy was a novel idea but i’ve really disengaged through the daily footy matches. Footy normally has a rhythm to it and footy this year hasn’t.

Monday = work place banter, footy analysis on the many tv shows
Tues, Wed = you can leave the footy alone for a few days if you choose or continue to consume media
Thurs = anticipation of team sheets
Fri = work place banter, Fri night footy relaxing on the couch
Sat = many of us probably watch one game and follow the scores in the others
Sun = footy tv shows, probably watch one game and follow the scores in the others

The AFL, with notably the QLD governments support, has done a remarkable job to get through this season the way they have. The finals should be a ratings smash regardless of the quality of the games with some big fan bases mostly watching from a far. But this season has suffered from losing it’s tempo, it’s rhythm.

  4. I’ve love the shortened game. A normal game is effectively 3 hours from first bounce to final whistle, the reduced quarters have been great for timing, especially on weeknights.

    1. Games have never been 3hrs. 2:10 start with a 4:40 finish was pretty stock standard. 2 and a half hrs was the normal run time.

  5. Keep trades at 30
I like suggestion on the The Phantom’s Podcast of adding a key forward and key defender position to our Super Coach field to add more interest and make he game more like reality.

    Great work SCT community!

  6. As a ‘Pies supporter, this is the 1st time I’ve watched every game, but this year is also the least amount of total footy I’ve watched. Over saturation is terrible thing, combined with lower scoring and shorter quarters. Maybe the AFL need to be radical and introduce a new position, and give it a radical name, like “Full Forward”.

  7. The AFL has done a remarkable job in getting a season out and I have enjoyed having the games on each night given there’s nothing else to do, but not for 2021 thanks!

The biggest issue for the game is the lack of scoring, some serious work needs to go into strategising against defensive structures and negative tactics.

  8. Personally hate the standard of footy, defensive strategy of 30 players in an area, don’t mind a game each day so I get to watch them all, hate the shortened quarters, every time I look to see how much time is left it’s under 10 minutes. I also can’t stand this lockdown it’s harsh for us Victorians but again it’s necessary. Happy i got to play SuperCoach this year but the naming of teams and late changes made it so difficult. Congrats on those who performed well and Good luck for those playing Grannys this week. Bring on 2021. Thanks SuperCoach Talk and all who contribute.

  9. The biggest improvement in the game would be if the bombers had 20 players on the park at all times, and the opposition 16…..we might even be in a few games at half time then !!!

  10. “I don’t believe we should stay with 16 minute quarters next year, it doesn’t mean it’s going back to 20 (minutes)” AFL CEO Gil McLachlan via AFL 360

    1. What a dumb comment by Gill! As if 18min is going to make any real difference to injury risk and fan interest.

Why does he continually tinker when he doesn’t know how it will affect the game quality?
