Poll – Danger Or Dusty?

Written by Schwarzwalder on April 19 2018

Dangerfield missed the first game of the season with a hamstring strain.  While he’s played reasonably well since his return, he hasn’t quite hit the heights of seasons past, currently averaging 111pts and dropping nearly $50k in value.

Dusty Martin has held his hefty price tag over the first four weeks of the season with some impressive performances.  In his Brownlow year, Dusty averaged 119 SC-pts. He’s currently averaging 133 over the first four Rounds and showing no signs of slowing down.

If you’re like me (don’t ask), then you inexplicably started the season without either of these guys.  Which of them should be first priority to trade into our teams?

  1. Dusty.

I was gonna rush him in this week, either bringing in Coffield or even Mirra a week early.

Instead I’m holding my horses. Cinco and Mirra are worth waiting for, Coffield being already at $170k only has $150k of price rises in him.

Plus of course, Dusty’s last two games against Melbourne were in the 70’s for supercoach. Bernie Vince loves him and stays nice and close.

    1. Have to agree that I would hold off on BOTH this week, given Bernie loves playing on him. Probably why the Dees put Jones on Titch last week so Bernie would be relatively fresh for the challenge. Dusty does love a big game tho’ and may just go down forward and kick another 6!!
Have watched both Coffield’s games however and am impressed. Has such poise in congested areas that I think he might justify the relatively high rookie price. One of only two good things to come out of the woeful Saints’ performance at the Cattery.

      1. Good luck. Will need 2 full rookie downgrades for that (assuming Holman’s 30 points last week was a once off). Probably need to be looking at a maxed out rookie downgrade and a mid-price upgrade over a dpp line i.e. Finlayson back and Bonner out. Problem is no rookies that I don’t want to keep (I won’t be getting rid of Finlayson, Murray, Kelly anytime soon) are going to be maxed out so there is no cash gen to allow this in my team. If you were one of the lucky ones a Fogarty downgrade might work or fr me the best shot is a Banfield.

    1. Thats the big problem with Dangerfield initially priced more than $100,00 than the rest of the pack of premiums assuming most have Martin, Mitchell or both.
Looks like it will have to be a two step process over a few weeks via a fallen premium who can possibly turn it around and recover some of the lost cash.

There will be plenty of midfielders dropping again in price this round, just need Dangerfield not to go huge over the next two rounds.

    2. currently ranked 11k and very happy with that with 530.8k cash. no rush with danger as his price will drop further. it will be holman/barry in one trade…who would have thought !! Just got to get the timing right….the old conundrum…cash or pts ?

  2. Is Dusty a ‘must have’ if he doesnt dip in price?
If his scoring is proportional to his price then can the money be spent better elsewhere?
New player here so may be reading the game incorrectly.

    1. Dusty looks to be a must have. He’s got the demons this week and has only ever scored over 100 once against them. so maybe wait a week for a bit of a price drop. That said, this year he looks better than ever so he’ll probably go big!

      1. I’ve personally avoided serious carnage, but it’s what I’d do if needed to land a big fish. Use rookies for fallen premiums, upgrade injured players.

  3. hey guys,
didn’t really know where to put this, but need help with my mid 8 selection, currently have both Holman and Coffield. Holman has been good so far, but had a terrible game last week, is it a sign of things to come or just an outlier? and Coffield has had two strong outings and should see plenty of the ball down back for the saints, especially against the Giants this week, Cheers

    TU: start with Holman
    TD: start with Coffield
